Superbowl 2009 adverts (comment as they happen!)

Right. So, I did this in 2006 and 2007, but without a laptop in 2008, I didn’t. Given that this is the only NFL game I watch, I’m in it for the ads as much as for the game. So, comment on the ads as they air.

Sprint ad: the phone turns into a tiny coliseum, two guys watch. Ok, it’s a “B” commercial, but it was a cute idea.

I had started my own thread in Cafe Society. I’m going to start commenting once the game officially starts.

Ok. I didn’t see it when I looked through the new messages a while ago.

Bud Light - office meeting, looking for ways to cut expenses, one suggests not buying Bud Light. He gets defenestrated. Cute.

Pepsi. The soft drink for fans of Obama.

Pepsi - new vs. old. Eh.

Doritos - magic ball that gets thrown. Eh.

Bud Light - Conan and Sweden. I dunno, that kind of humor doesn’t do it for me.

Bridgestone - that was cute. Reminiscent of Toy Story.

Castrol - that’s a little wierd.

Love them Clydsdales!

SDMB lifetime post #1000

Doritos - cute premise. I loved the opener with the woman.

GoDaddy - that was funny. Danica Patrick’s 5th shower that day.

Pepsi - pretty funny.

Pedigree - loved the old lady and the ostrich.

Budweiser #1- this year was better than the last two. Pretty funny with the horse retreiving a large branch.

Budweiser #2 - cute.

Star Trek movie trailer - Wow! They close the circle.

Cars.com - pretty good. Wish I were Chuck Abernathy.

Hyundai - good. Finally, the world says the name right. At least in German and Japanese.

E-trade - funny. More of the talking baby, now with a sidekick flexing his pipes.

Bud Light - cute premise.

H&R Block - funny. See you in 38 days.

Teleflora - eh. Dumb idea having a talking flower with no followup and no real punchline

I thought it was a good year for Superbowl adverts. Not a great year, but one of the better ones I remember in years.

I loved Troy’s remake of the Mean Joe Green Coke ad. That was fun. Overall, not so bad.

Maybe I’m jaded, or I’m just in a pissy mood because I have a roaring head cold, but I wasn’t particularly impressed with any of 'em. I think the Clydesdales have jumped the shark. The Troy coke ad was OK, and when he ripped the suit’s shirt off, I actually smiled.

The rest were … meh.

The Star Trek one kind of got past me – I though I recognized some characters, but wasn’t sure what was being advertised. Is this a new Star Trek franchise, in the mold of all the new Batman movies?

G.I. Joe. 'Nuff said.
