Superbowl Non-Game Entertainment

Just thought I’d start a thread to comment on the non-game entertainment. Normally, I hate everything put on that’s not the game, but this year has actually been okay. This is also the only the second time in a long time that I’ve liked the rendition of the national anthem. They need to get the military to do it more often. Forget these so-called singers that lip-sync it.

I can’t understand why the audience applauded and cheered after the national anthem. I was always taught that it’s inappropriate and disrespectful to do so.

Paul McCartney was a good choice. Those are good songs. Some of the Beatles hits and Live and Let Die. I couldn’t stand the last couple shows because I hated everyone they had performing.

I was taught that too, but apparently I’m in the minority.

Any time you’re tempted to complain about the Super Bowl entertainment, remember this: at the 1971 Super Bowl, which pitted the Cowboys against the Colts, the entire halftime show was Anita Bryant singing the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

I was only 10 years old then, but I remember the utter tedium. I had thought there was just the “Mine eyes have seen the glory” verse and the chorus. But apparently, there are 40 or 50 verses, and she sang them all!

So, somehow, Justin Timberlake actually seemed like a step up, to me!

I liked Whitney’s version quite a bit. Why can’t they just get her to do it every year? So what if she lip-synched it? It was good.

asterion and astorian are different posters, and both are longtime posters at that, huh? I feel a headache coming on. Apologies if I’ve ever referred to either of you by the wrong name.
