- That’s “sports hate” hate, not real hate.
I’ve hated* the Redskins ever since college because the guy who roomed next to me was the most insufferable sports fan I have met who adored the Redskins. I’ve never met anyone worse than him.
This.
I ignore all chatter about cheating from a group of fans that still talk about the legal-until-that-season practice of videotaping seven years ago, conveniently forgetting that every single NFL team did it, and utterly ignore things like stomping on prone quarterbacks intentionally, tossing thumbs in eyes of the opposing quarterback, performance enhancing drugs, hit jobs against opposing players, and other far more blatant forms of cheating.
Oh, and whining when the Patriots do something legal, but so unexpected that it “should be cheating”.
Patriots cheating again, has to be. They can’t just be good. There’s gotta be some reason they stomp a bloody mudhole in your favorite team’s ass for most of the season and put up an embarassing amount of points on your otherwise-dominant team.
Sour grapes and haterade, makes a delightful concoction that I drink from before and after every game. Then I watch my team either win it all or dominate the NFL and take home second prize, and I laugh when that’s considered a bad or embarassing performance. Really? I should feel bad when your team gets three wins in a season? I should feel bad, as a fan, to watch my team rack up insane amounts of points and break records, because they don’t have a 4th super bowl ring?
That’s what’s supposed to make me* sad?*
U mad bro?
And it’s started: Rams fans on my Facebook feed bellyaching because the Patriots “stole the Rams Superbowl victory by videotaping the Rams practices and stealing all their plays!”
I don’t really want to argue with them as most of them are my actual, real-life friends, but it is supremely aggravating. They are mostly intelligent people who would normally base their arguments on actual evidence and not vaguely remembered debunked allegations from seven years ago, but sports fandom seems to rarely encourage rationality.
(I’m a Pats fan in St. Louis, if that wasn’t clear.)
And then there’sAaron Rodgers actually proudly admitting to it- but if it’s not the Patriots, then it’s just a fun sports anecdote.
Well, we can guess who all the bookmakers are pulling for.
How long before sports CT’ers start claiming the fix is in for Seattle, so that Big Gambling doesn’t lose its shirt?
The column that he’s actually talking about is from Sport’s Illustrated.

It’s got to be one of the worst written “I’m just saying” articles I’ve ever read. And I say that as someone who hates the Patriots.
Here’s a really good rebuttal:

Thanks for those links.
Blown out of proportion, I think. The Colts lost because they sucked during the game. It’s not like the Pats got their playbook or bribed the refs.
On a side note, I think it’s funny how Sherman’s image seems to have changed. After The Rant from the post game interview (SF/SEA), lots of posts (everywhere) were going around saying he just made everyone a Denver fan. Now, he’s shilling everything from soup to cough drops on TV ads. Personally, I think he was caught up in the moment with the buttwipe he was covering and is, simply put, a phenomenal defensive player. When he’s not playing against my fave teams, he’s really is amazing to watch.
I believe that this game will feature two deservingly good teams that will play to the best of their ability and eventually, one time will score just a few more points than the other
So much rubbish in that SI article. The way it was written, he could have said pretty much anything. “Some opponents wonder whether Tom Brady has secretly made donations to Sinn Fein, the political arm of the IRA. Supposedly, he has not, but his father is Irish, and Brady has previously expressed an interest in politics.”
Super Bowl rookie ref tapped for title game
Less of a news item than the headline promises because he’s had NFL playoff experience.
"The NFL mandates that officials must be rated in the top tier at their position to be eligible for the Super Bowl.
They must also have at least five years of NFL experience and previous post-season assignments."
Still, with the tuck rule, the Dez un-catch, eligibility, etc… I would wager that these refs feel the pressure just like the players.
I have to wonder if it would’ve happened if the NFC Championship hadn’t gone the way it did, and if this is an overly reactionary, er, reaction based on a single game that history seems to indicate is an outlier in terms of play quality?
Richard Sherman’s elbow sprain means he will be limited in Super Bowl
I don’t know, even one handed he seems pretty capable. What is being said in Seattle?
Dear Seattle Seahawks. How are you? I am fine.
My name is Yancey, and I’ve been a fan since 76 when you came out with the Buccaneers.
I’ve cheered for you through Patera era, when trick plays and wide open gunslinging was the rule, the Ground Chuck years when you played so far above your abilities.
During the deplorable Tom Flores Years and the heartbreaking loss to the Steelers in 2006. Our defense has always been feared. Ken Easley haunted many a quarterback’s dreams from 81 to 87. The call “Zorn to Largent…TOUCHDOWN!” still gives me chills.
I’m 47 years old, and I have not exactly treated my body as a temple. That being said, I don’t think my heart can take another game like the NFC Championship. Please dispatch the Patriots with all due haste and alacrity.
Thank you,
Yancey.
This is the latest I’ve seen. There hasn’t been a lot said around here.

He’s one tough guy. If he can walk, he’ll play.
Yancey, I’m with you. I didn’t like being a “second-half team”, but my gosh, it’s much better than being a “last four-minutes” team. Did you ever see any games in the Kingdome? A high school friends parents had season tickets on the fifty-yard line and I got to go six or seven times. I also had a Jim Zorn jersey, but for the life of me I can’t find it, darn it.
I only made a couple of games at the Kingdome.
I still haven’t seen a game at the Clink, but I’m hoping to rectify that next year.
sigh
Now they are selling T-Shirts that say “Flatten the Deflatriots”
The Twitter exchange between Bostonian Chris Evans and Washington born Chris Pratt warms my geeky heart.
