If you two are done being done with each other…
Deal with it.
I work two jobs because my boyfriend is disabled and unable to work. We have to be able to live, somehow.
Touche’
So, MIT and CalTech don’t count?
Funny thing is, I agree with you for the most part - there is just no way a community college could compete with a four-year university in general terms. But I just find it weird that you seem so vehement in your dislike for anyone that has ever in their lives attended community college. CCs aren’t supposed to be equal to four-year universities - they are there for students who, for whatever reason, find it more convenient to attend them than to attend a “regular” college, as you like to put it. Some students are there because they’re too stupid to get into another school. Some are there because they’re poor and can’t afford to move, even with partial grants or scholarships. Some are there because of family issues - maybe they need to help out at home with an extra job, or help take care of a disabled family member. Many of the students are older people who are interested in continuing their learning, and for whom a “regular” university would be inconvenient.
So while I understand your opinion that CCs are generally inferior to four-year universities, I think it’s stupid that you immediately write off anyone that’s ever set foot in a CC as inferior to yourself.
Yay! A pit thread for Trubie. I wrote out a rather long reply about community colleges after she completely missed the fucking point of my post… I did go to a university, then decided I wanted a different sort of job and chose community college for practical experience rather than a 4 year degree (which would have only taken me 2 years because I had electives already) that focused on theory. I did it because the job market in the early nineties was less than stellar, I was sick of being un/under employeed so I did what I needed to be employed full time. she then accused me of not knowing anything about the economy and called me Ms Never been Unemployeed. Never been unemployed is wrong, Ive had some tough moments, but when there were no jobs for teachers I decided to stop becoming a teacher.
I wrote this all out, showed it to my boyfriend who doesn’t really read or post at the SDMB unless I show him a thread. He said to me “what’s that expression Do Not Feed the Trolls?”. So I erased the post and went looking for a pit thread with Trubie in it.
Look up my stats. I have been a member since February 2000. I have less than 900 posts. I don’t usually get involved in debates. I rarely ever post in the Pit. I have never Pitted a SDMB member.
But this Trubie, I never want her near my son’s class room. Dirty diapers don’t give anyone hepatitis, unless the diapers are from someone with hepatitis and you are drinking splashing or injecting yourself with infected fluids. Really. She also looks down on nurses, or is it only community college nurses. Next December when I get my BScN will her opinion magically change?
Also, Trubie never responded to the fact that sometimes having a 4 year degree for something that can be taught at community college drives up the cost of labour, which actually is one thing that is causing problems in the world economy. Do plumbers need to go to a 4 year university? Do tv broadcasters? Diagnostic Imaging?
There is a place in this world for people who barely finish or don’t finish highschool. There are places for people who apprentice, who go to trade school or community college. There are places for 2 and 4 year college graduates and people who need advanced degrees and PhDs. I don’t know if it is because Trubie is in her early 20s and wet behind the ears, (I do not think all 20 somethings are wet behind the ears) or if it is because she is both ignorant and a snob, but my problem is that she can not grasp that there is a middle ground.
I had no idea Superdude still posts here. Also, I’m hungry.
Is there any chance we’ll be given a link of some sort?
I got either a C- or D+ in my AP calc class (don’t remember because I blotted it out) . . . still got a 4 on the AP exam though, and the associated college credit at a four year university. So, I guess you’re wrong.
Also, what is this thread actually supposed to be about?
Wait a minute. People are smacking each other with their handbags in the Pit over community colleges?! What’s next, an Internet knife fight over who’s kitteh is fluffier?
Jeepers.
Trubie, let me tell you something about this board. NEVER brag about anything on this board. There will always be somebody here who not only has done what you have done, but has done a whole lot more to boot. Bragging about going to a “four-year school”? Oh, big whoop. We’ve got people here who went to med school, law school, doctoral programs at Ivy League schools and Oxbridge. You name it, we’ve probably had someone who’s done it.
And, amazingly (apart from a few trolls and jerks), all of those people who’ve performed those feats of education refrain from being snooty about it. Know why? Look how many people are supporting you in this thread!
It’s more about an ignorant upstart who joins SDMB and trolls around without putting up a cogent argument. Sheblatently ignores/misses the points of other posters. She spews misinformation and will not accept correction. Then she has to brag about her “edumacation” and make herself feel superior to those who don’t have her level of “book larnin’” and to top it all off quotes CHRIS ROCK to prove her point.
In other words, we are pitting a troll. Does it matter why?
And if I did have a “Kitteh” it would be very “Fluffeh”. As it is, I don’t have a kitteh, I have a pussy and although my pussy is not your business, it is not fluffy…
Or what Duke said.
Color me confused.
Some guy who’s been here less than two weeks starts a Pit thread that’s essentially nothing other than an invitation for another user to Pit him. No other context, no link, explanation, wit, or point of any kind. Fail.
Then people who are not the invted Pitter/Pitee show up and start arguing the merits of Community Colleges. I suppose this may have something to do with the OP’s original beef, but frankly this thread is so weak I can’t be bothered to go looking for the answers.
Trubie: Next time you start a Pit thread – no, make that any thread – try to actually have something to say first.
Bolding mine.
Maybe, maybe not.
True enough. I try not to be too quick to accuse people of sockery, but nevertheless, I stand by my original conclusion of “Fail.”
Well, that wasn’t apparent, as no one so far has been arsed to link to whatever thread set off this whole fooferaw.
I must confess, however, that I found the content in your spoiler box to be oddly, er, intriguing. I am properly ashamed for that.
This thread, starting with this post.
I’ll make an honorable mention to her “contributions” to the women-proposing-to-men thread (starting here), which is where I first noticed she was a complete asshole.
Special bonus points for playing the “I know I’m an asshole” card:
This thread sucks. I pit Trubie for having a shitty Pit thread.
I wonder if that was ever written in red ink on the back flap of one of Trubie’s blue-books?
(OK, not really.)
You are fast becoming one of my favorite posters.
Tom Scud, you make the case for having a special kind of nostalgia thread. Not “Where were you when you heard that Princess Diana had died?” or “What were you doing on September 11, 2001?” but “Where were you when you first noticed that Trubie is an asshole?”
