I know the Jedi and Shaolin love their flowing robes, but it seems like they’d be a pain to fight in. Of course, your form-fitting costume seems like it would restrict motion, but maybe that can be designed around.
I got the impression Brainy wanted it to be a date, but couldn’t get away from the roommate, so ended up hiding in the closet and hence couldn’t spend time with Nia. Note that he also lost control of the heart shaped box at the end.
WTF? The show has just come back from its second hiatus and they’re taking another break for the Oscars. The show comes back on March 3. This Sunday schedule is not serving them very well.

SUPERGIRL FACES OFF AGAINST THE ELITE - Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala) breaks out of prison with the help of his new team, The Elite, who are set on punishing the anti-alien forces. Supergirl pulls double duty as she tries to apprehend Manchester Black and his team as well as deal with a shocking new development with Ben Lockwood.
Manchester Black returns! And he’s got his own posse now. Jessica Meraz (Menagerie) looks like she’s having fun hamming it up as a supervillain, a far cry from her previous role as a detective in Major Crimes.
It’s getting pretty complicated trying to keep track of the various individuals and factions and their relationships. There’s Supergirl, of course. There’s Alex and the D.E.O. along with Col. Haley, who may or may not be on Kara’s side. There’s Lena who is ostensibly working with the D.E.O. but for her own reasons. There’s the President, who’s keeping Col. Haley in the dark for unknown reasons. There’s Brainy and Nia Nal. There’s J’onn J’onzz who is opposed to Manchester Black. There’s Manchester Black and the Elite. There’s Ben Lockwood and the Children of Liberty.
And then there’s Jimmy Olsen. He’s been dumped by Kara, dumped by Lena, abandoned by Winn, left alone by Cat. What’s his function on the show anymore?
My daughter is now obsessed with The Hat: just what can he do? What can’t he do? Was he just playing around, like when he gave Manchester a sword instead of a gun, or is it that he didn’t actually have kryptonite in the bag of tricks? How did he know about Brainy’s ring? Did he need to swipe Brainy’s ring beforehand instead of simply pulling it out of the hat? Where did he get the hat? No, I know J’onn said something about a hat like that, but that just raises more questions!
Me too — but that’s what I meant about “more questions”. Is it maybe that he’s from the 5th Dimension, or that he’s a local and someone from the 5th chose to bestow the hat on him? Or maybe he stole the hat? Or found it? They said stuff in passing about his hobby of kidnapping and interrogating government agents; was that before, or only after, he got the hat? And, if ‘before’: was that how he got it?
When Alex finds out Lena wants to give humans superpowers, she says that this “changes things” and, among other precautionary measures, her work needs to be put “on a protected server.” They’re in the DEO. Everything there should be on a protected server!
I missed the part where they explained about the hat. If it’s really from the 5th dimension it could very well be Mxyzptlk’s hat. He canonically sports a bowler in the comics.
SUPERGIRL TAKES A STAND - Between Ben Lockwood’s new push to stir up the anti-alien movement and the Elite’s desire to target Lockwood and his minions, Supergirl is concerned about the safety of the American people - both human and alien. When Lockwood organizes a rally, the aliens decide to peacefully protest. Brainiac and J’onn join the alien march while Supergirl and Dreamer patrol to keep everyone safe. Meanwhile, James picks up his camera again to cover the march for CatCo, and Hayley assigns Alex a job that clashes with her beliefs. When The Elite and Ben Lockwood stir up trouble at the rally, Supergirl is forced to take a stand.
Jimmy wasn’t completely useless for once. He may have actually made a difference. Makes you wonder what he could have done if hadn’t put down the camera and put on the Guardian mask. Too bad he had to get himself shot at the end of the episode.
After they had captured Menagerie, Kara walked into J’onn’s office in civies and started talking about Supergirl stuff right in front of Menagerie. Then they shipped her off to the D.E.O. and Col. Haley. What was that about keeping Supergirl’s identity again?
It sounds like they are preparing to launch a bunch of spin-offs, huh?
This show used to be so good, but now, it just feels like the writers forgot one important element, the viewers.
It’s called Supergirl. It should be ideally at least 50% about her. But now it’s all diluted by these other story lines and characters. I agree most of them are interesting, but the show isn’t called Supergirl and Her Friends.
I think this is a symptom of lazy writing or stifled writing. If you can’t create compelling scenes for Supergirl, just create another story line with a different character.
What was the cool-looking hand-held thing Black stole from the Fortress? Was it what he used to make all the holograms of himself? (Never mind “How did he know what it was?” “How did he know how to use it?” etc.)
Nia Nal, like her descendant Dream Girl, has a super power: She has dreams that come true. So what the hell are the energy blasts that come out of her hands? Dream energy or something?

JON CRYER GUEST STARS AS ICONIC DC COMICS’ VILLAIN LEX LUTHOR - Secretly furloughed from prison due to failing health, Lex Luthor (guest star Jon Cryer) visits his sister, Lena, to seek her help finding a cure. Savvy as ever, Lena is suspicious of Lex’s motives but when she’s faced with a life and death situation, she must decide how she truly feels about her brother. Meanwhile, Supergirl and J’onn (David Harewood) face off against Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala). James’ sister Kelly (guest star Azie Tesfai) comes to town.
I had some misgivings about Jon Fryer’s ability to be menacing, but his debut as Lex has dispelled all doubt. For someone who was until recently incarcerated at a presumably maximum security prison, Lex is surprising well-informed about what’s going on in a top secret government facility.
This was answered in this episode. It was the Staff of Macguffin, and Manchester Black didn’t make holograms so much as illusions or mental projections. He knew about it because he took the information straight out of J’onn’s mind.
You kind of ruined the latest episode for me, as I couldn’t help but see Lena interacting with Lex on the one hand and with the Olsen family on the other while J’onn got all emotional due to Manchester’s subplot, leaving Brainy and Nia with comparatively little to do, which was also the case for Alex and others.
Eve Tessmacher was Kara’s replacement. In fact, Kara was the one that hired her. (Cat Grant told Kara to find a replacement for her as Cat’s assistant as her first assignment after being promoted.) Kara must be really upset about that.
