See the problem is that Mexicans aren’t trying to enslave the world. In Supergirl aliens already did. #agentlibertywasright
During the episode that showed Agent Liberty’s backstory, I actually found myself agreeing with him until he fell off the deep end. The mark of a good villain.
SAYING GOODBYE IS HARD TO DO - Kara’s investigation into William Dey’s “criminal” activities results in the shocking revelation he is not who she thinks. Meanwhile, the conflict between Malefic and J’onn J’onzz reaches a boiling point.

“Simon Kirby” - heh.
I thought they were sending Jimmy and Kelly in hiding somewhere so we wouldn’t have to deal with them for a while. Instead, we get to see them take a vacation, dispensing some social justice while they’re at it. And so we get another irrelevant storyline starring Jimmy Olsen, newspaper publisher. Great. (Unless Jimmy is leaving the show permanently? One can only hope.)
Supergirl and the D.E.O. are taking a page out of the Flash and S.T.A.R. Labs by letting the villain get away again and again. Although the second time really isn’t on them, since they thought they had succeeded in banishing M’aleficent back to the Phantom Zone, but Lena siphoned him off for her own nefarious purposes. Or maybe it is on them since they’re entirely too trusting with Lena. C’mon, guys, she’s a Luthor.
I was wondering how they were going to shoot around Andrea Brooks’s pregnancy. It seems they’re using the time-honored approach of hiding her belly behind some furniture.
William comes clean to Kara. His wife is fake, he’s working for the Times, he’s investigating Andrea Rojas, he really likes Kara’s writing. He volunteers at soup kitchen. He’s such a good guy. I just am shocked - SHOCKED!
To elaborate - the Newsboy Legion, which this character is intended to evoke, was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby.
All credit to Terminus Est for predicting the William Day’s arc (unless his over the top praise of Kara’s writing is a ploy!).
The only thing that hasn’t happened yet is for Kara and William to hook up. ![]()
I went digging and it seems it was previously announced that Mehcad Brooks is leaving the show. So I guess we just witnessed Jimmy Olsen’s farewell.
In other news, the CW are considering a Superman and Lois spinoff with Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch.
Once he wasn’t the love interest anymore, he had no purpose. I like The Guardian, but he doesn’t work next to Supergirl.
For the love of Og, please, please no. They’ve done so well introducing unknown heroes (outside of comic fans, that is), keep doing that. But angsty action romance is CW’s wheelhouse for the most part. Gives their fans lots to ship.
A NEW DANGER ARISES - On the eve of the worldwide launch of Andrea Rojas’s VR contact lenses, Kara and William team up on an investigation that exposes a terrorist plot. Kelly and Alex celebrate an anniversary, but Alex’s safety is in jeopardy.

I did like that bit where Jimmy tells the kid “Don’t call me chief!” I wish he could have invoked Great Caesar’s Ghost as well.
The show is going downhill in my opinion. Lena’s character is way over the top, how can she be so expert in so many things? And so Kara didn’t tell her she was Supergirl for a while. Boo fucking hoo. Oh my God, my friend kept a secret from me as well as 99.99999% of humanity. I think I’ll turn into a super villain.
Someone noted that the last season finale hinted at how enjoyable Brainy could’ve been as this year’s villain: still doing his offbeat schtick of not quite getting what it means to be hyoo-man, while genuinely seeming like he can be reasoned with (even though, no, he’s all-in on some ideas that badly need work).
I’m guessing that would’ve been more entertaining than, y’know, this.
Oh, great. To no one’s surprise, Kara horns in on William’s business and even brings him in to the D.E.O. to watch the interrogation of that assassin she tangled with in Mexico. Although I do enjoy it when Kara has to disguise the use of her powers when a civilian is present. But it’s only a matter of time before she reveals to him that she’s Supergirl.
Lena took another stop on the road to super-villainy. She got what she wanted from M’aleficent and even manipulated his mind to make him more content. Maybe it’s time to let him go now? The Monitor brought him here for a reason. Wouldn’t like it if his plans got subverted. When are we going to get anything related to the Crisis?
So Dreamer was able to stop the tsunami crashing on to National City, but what about the rest of the Pacific coast? Do the writers even realize how many miles of coastline that is? The Pacific Ocean takes up a full half of the planet!
I thought it fairly obvious that Doc Ock was William’s friend. Why couldn’t Supergirl just peek under that mask with her X-ray vision?
It seems like the writing is getting lazier and the actors are starting to phone it in. Too many subplots, too many aliens, too many people in on Supergirl’s identity. As much as I enjoyed the first season, it’s jumping the shark this year.
It was weird that Lena focused on Kara when she was trying to make common cause with Mal - seems like when trying to convince a guy who is obsessed by his brother’s betrayal that you have a lot in common, you should talk more about how you were betrayed by your own brother (which, of course, Lena was).
In the original comic books, Lex Luthor became Superman’s — actually, Suberboy’s, I think — arch enemy because Kal was the one who made him lose his hair. Accidentally. While saving his life.
Even that was more believable than Lena’s motivation for her turn to the dark side.
Let’s face it, this show has never been … y’know … good, but I’ve been watching since the beginning. And even as stupid as Lena’s butthurt is, and her plan to permanently alter human behavior is, I’ll probably keep watching.
Interesting how Flash and GA are “all in” on “prelude to Crisis”, but nothing (yet) from Supergirl.
The Flash this season has as many if not more open plotlines (as well as everyone knowing about Barry Allen) and yet it doesn’t feel directionless at all. Everything is hyperfocused on the Crisis or the Big Bad. Even the subplots also advance one (if not both) of the two main plots.
In contrast, Supergirl has had absolutely nothing about the Crisis. We don’t even know who the Big Bad is supposed to be. Is it M’aleficent? Andrea Rojas? Lena Luthor? Leviathan? Instead, this show seems to want to just advance all the ships - Nia/Brainy, Kelly/Alex, Kara/Lena, Kara/William. Makes you wish the Anti-Monitor would come and destroy it all, sooner rather than later.
PIECE TOGETHER THE PAST - While a new villain is under arrest at the DEO, Supergirl uses him to try and understand who is responsible for the recent attacks. Meanwhile, Andrea and Lena think back on their tumultuous past.

This is the episode where we get to see the secret origin of the Big Bad. Except that it featured both Lena Luthor and Andrea Rojas and their relationship with each other. So we still who is going to be the real super-villain. Maybe it’s Leviathan, but they don’t seem to have much of an agenda other than to make life difficult for Lena and Andrea.
The episode was kind of all over the place - Lara Croft, Lex Luthor, Ravi Chakrabati, horrendous flashback wigs, magic medallions. Then there’s the rather unwelcome development that Andrea apparently has superpowers. Plus William got to see inside the D.E.O. :dubious:
SOMETIMES THE PERSON YOU WOULD TAKE A BULLET FOR IS STANDING BEHIND THE TRIGGER - Supergirl finally learns the truth about Lena while tangling with Leviathan. J’onn J’onnz makes a discovery about his brother’s whereabouts.
