The final battle between the Super Friends and Lex + Nyxly was take it or leave it. Mostly leave it, on my part. Talk about boring! They just tried to dazzle us with spectacle without actually providing anything of substance.
The series finale itself was far better that I could have hoped for. They didn’t kill off the protagonist (I’m looking at you, Arrow) or send her into the future. It only took Cat Grant to come back and knock some sense into Kara. The adventure continues with Kara Zor-El, editor-in-chief of CatCo.
Al first showed up when they started visiting the alien bar; he was the bartender there. He showed up a lot during the Agent Liberty season, since that was all about aliens (as a surrogate for immigrants).
Nice to see Cat Grant again. Winn too. The wedding took way too much time, especially for a couple with zero chemistry. The series was fun at first, but the last two seasons were painful to watch. I’ll miss Melissa Benoist, hope she finds more work soon. Other than Cat and Brainy, the I won’t miss the rest of the cast.
It was nice to see the show acknowledge that the reasons for Kara to have a secret identity had largely evaporated - there’s a large population of aliens living openly on Earth, and most of the people that might be endangered by association with Supergirl have powers, and/or are already doing dangerous things on their own - and the accountability theme of the last season is served by Kara dissolving her secret identity, too. Furthermore, Kara is different from Clark* - Clark was raised human, with no Kryptonian identity - but Kara came to Earth as a teen, so for her to live as a human is denying the Kryptonian family and society that she remembers and mourns.
P.S. We’ll ignore any concerns that Kara coming out as Supergirl will expose Clark’s secret - that’s never going to get acknowledged.
