“Justifying crushes”. Is that what the kids are calling it nowadays?
Yeah, I mean Superman: The Movie and The Avengers were such box-office failures.
oh wait…
$300.2 million from 55MM-
$1.518 billion from $220MM
vs Man of Steel $668 million from $225 million.
Or we could have a variety of styles for different people who enjoy different things.
I’m personally overwhelmed by all of the ‘light’ and ‘fun’ hero fare that’s all the rage. Stuff like Daredevil and Serious DC are a relief. Varying mileage and such.
Supergirl looks like I’d like it, though.
Huh? All the rage? On what planet?
She was in suspended animation, and took a slower route. (He almost certainly was in suspended animation, as well, but took a much faster route.)
But not nearly as much slower as in the comics. They seem to be going with Kal hitting Earth almost as soon as he left, meaning Kara landed when he was about 11 or 12 (she’s been hiding her powers for 12 years) - in the comics, she’s generally 16 when Krypton kabooms, and still 16 when she lands, 25-30 years later.
As a consequence, the age difference is a lot smaller here than in the comics - maybe 6 years at the outside, rather than 9 at minimum.
There’s a place for both, with me. I am really enjoying Daredevil, and my problems with Agents of Shield and Agent Carter have nothing to do with the amount of light in them; Avengers and Dark Knight were both fun in their same way.
All the same, if Supergirl can manage to be genuinely fun and funny, I’ll be super-psyched. I’ve not seen a successful superhero show that manages that, with the exception of Misfits, which is still pretty dark.
It looks entertaining - has a sort of “Lois and Clark” vibe, but updated. I don’t need the “Devil Wears Prada/Ugly Betty” normal life but they want to appeal to a female audience and unlike the CW can’t rely on Amell working out shirtless all the time so…
My worry? It’s on CBS so no crossovers. I really wish DC would get their ducks in a row like Marvel.
Aside: How can someone have a crush on Supergirl when there’s Power Girl out there?
Given that the trailer is made up solely of footage from the pilot, I don’t think it’s too spoilery for the series. ![]()
They don’t do (boob)windows?
Is it though? That’s gonna be one helluva long pilot if they are having her intro/backstory/family realtionship/job relationship/some kind of internal conflict/the love thing/the plane/the aftermath/the costume montage/the SHIELD-adjace/The truck thing/the fights/the telling-of-her-best-friend/the boss conflict…whew!
Gonna be a 2 hour premiere AT LEAST
But then highly spoilery of the pilot. And, apparently, spoiling that the pilot contains 5-episode’s worth of content.
Actually, that’s good to know. One of the things that’s annoyed me about both Gotham and (to a lesser extent) Daredevil is how much of it feels like origin story. I’m hoping that Supergirl uses the pilot to get the origin out of the way, and by the second episode is firmly entrenched in the “our hero is now established” storytelling mode.
Me, too. Launch the show in November, then get on with it! But the time slot is from 8 - 9pm on Monday, so I think they will just have a freaking packed debut episode.
Yeah, I agree, “dark” has been way overdone.
I liked her comment about how we’re probably already familiar with her cousin’s story. Yes, we are! Let’s not spend too much time on origins.
…I think that this was one of these “industry” trailers, I watched a whole bunch of them a few months ago when I accidentally watched the wrong thing and they all just kept on showing up in my playlist. This one for example for the Mysteries of Laura (Spoilers):
“Hey its Elias! He’s the Captain! (Isn’t he on another series) Oh he’s the bad guy!”
Or this one for Madam Secretary (Spoilers):
Where the whole pilot is summarised in 5 minutes including the
super sappy ending.
I’m guessing that these trailers are made to help market a pilot to full series and if the series makes it then the trailer is simply released online.
You live on a planet were there aren’t 5 million Marvel movies or TV shows? That sounds… nice. ![]()
Though saying that, I did really enjoy the trailer. I like having different types of superhero shows myself - and Superman type stuff naturally lends itself to a more ‘light’ approach (you hear that “Man of Steel”?!).
I need to stand up and say … (OK. I’m standing now) …
What a Great name you chose! So Very Very Excellent! Powerful too!
Maybe he took the Kessel Run?
I dont get it.![]()
