Superman (2025)

Gunn has confirmed that it was real. Which I have no problem with. But a lot of people hate it, so I expect him to backtrack on that eventually.

It was apparently true, or Superman wouldn’t have ditched the video of his parents at the end for his adoptive parents. Also was true in the comics at some point, but comic book history can and has been basically everything under the sun.

But under which sun? It’s important.

The twin suns of Tattooine, of course.

Two yellow suns? Superman would be double-strong!

Right?

The origin of Superduper Man.

“The only one stronger than he is he. Hee Hee Hee!”

Finally saw this, taking this long because it was pretty far down on my priority list, and as it turned out, rightfully so. OK, it was somewhat entertaining, but it was basically a mindless big-budget special-effects extravaganza, really basically geared for kids or, at least, youths who like spectacular action movies with very little plot. In terms of spectacle, this was more Star Wars than traditional Superman.

I was amused by the fact that in a world overrun by superheroes (Superman, Mr Terrific, Green Lantern, and others), Lex Luthor’s super-villains, multiple universes and a multi-dimensional rift in spacetime, it’s so incredibly important for Jimmy Olsen to get the big scoop for the Daily Planet on what Lex Luther is really up to!

Neesless to say, my favourite character was Krypto the caped flying dog!

I seriously would not be surprised if he got his own spinoff film and/or TV series.

It wouldn’t be the first time Hollywood served dessert for dinner. It’s exciting in theory, but disappointing in practice.

Yeah, as enjoyable as the dog might be in this particular film, I wouldn’t have high hopes for a spinoff.

Krypto - First Blood

I’d watch it! Just imagine him bouncing down the street, urinating fire hydrants into passing cars and crippling foreign dignitaries by humping their legs.

“I for one welcome our new canine overlord.”

And in the past! I was surprised anyway….

I knew about the cartoon, I have kids after all, but I’m sure someone wants to take this CGI/live action version and exploit its popularity for every cent it might be worth.

I never heard of it, myself. I was suprised someone thought there were enough stories to sustain a series.

There was also the film around multiple super-powered pets a few years ago, where Krypto was a prominent character.

And the Krypto cartoon you linked to had a spin-off miniseries:

It turns out that Krypto the dog was mostly CGI, but derived from James Gunn’s own dog Ozu. Ozu’s misbehaviour inspired some of Krypto’s antics. I loved the little exchange between Superman and (I think) Lois Lane about how Superman is obsessed about this dog, and he says something like “It’s not my dog, and he’s not really even a good dog”!

At the end of the movie, Superman’s super-cousin, Supergirl, arrives to pick up Krypto.

I mean, we are obviously getting more Krypto in the Supergirl movie, but i don’t think he could carry anything other than a children’s movie.
