Supernatural 1/21

No thread on the new episode? Spoiler space just in case…

Sam and Dean check themselves into a mental health facility at the request of one of their Dad’s friends/former hunter. Seems patients are dying, supposedly by suicide, but our boys know better.

Random thoughts…

  • Doesn’t do a whole lot to advance the overall arc of ‘kill Lucifer’… more of an excuse to yet again point out how mentally unbalanced/potentially unhingeable Sam and Dean are; we get it. Really. Honest. They’re f’ed up.

  • No Bobby or Castiel. :frowning: :frowning: Though we got a Castiel shout-out. "No, a real angel. He wears a trench coat.’

  • Sign of a piss-poor psychiatrist: when the schizophrenic says she can see her dead son behind you, DON’T LOOK. Even casually. But props to the director

For actually having the kid standing there when she made the first comment; I missed it the first time because I was standing at a weird angle to the tv, but on followup viewing I was all “WOAH! CREEPY DEAD KID!”

  • I guessed the identity of the killer in the first few minutes. Did not guess the second twist of Dean’s doc being all in his head, though I did think she was a bit… off… to be working in that type of facility.

  • Loved Sam on the sedatives. ‘You always were a happy drunk.’ Hee.

  • Did they think someone wouldn’t notice the patient’s skull being carefully opened?? All I could think of when Sam was trying to put the body back together was ‘The Man With Two Brains’ and the screw-on ‘skull cap.’ And wouldn’t Sam have had a little bit of blood on that immaculate white tshirt?

  • Best line of the night: ‘I want him now. He’s… bigger.’ Followed closely by ‘Stop trying to help!!’ (oh my god, if I had a dime for every time I heard that in session!)

I won’t even acknowledge ‘Pudding!’

The jiggling was the best part.

Pretty good episode. I agree with you, the emotional damage of Sam and Dean has been hammered home again and again and again. But at least it’s still entertaining damage. And I loved Dean’s conversation with his doctor. “How many drinks do you have a week?” “Well, gotta sleep sometime, so, hmm, seven days, times…somewhere in the mid 50s.”

I guessed the killer within the first two minutes too, but I did second guess myself in the middle, so…

Was I seeing things, or did the wraith/killer/nurse exhibit some black eyes early in the episode? It was kind of quick, and I couldn’t tell if it was just her squinting or genuine black demon eyes…

I didn’t notice the black eyes, but anyone that happy to be working at the nuthouse clearly ain’t right.

This episode was just treading water, and it bored me, frankly. Yeah, Sam and Dean have emotional issues. I get it. Let’s get on with the damned apocalypse, already.

I’m kind of meh on the episode, but I did laugh at “boop!”.

My biggest issue with this episode is the ending - there should be some longer lasting “crazy” from being infected - they shouldn’t be cured just because the wraith is dead.

But I had to rewind and watch again the scene where dean yells “monster, wheres the monster?”
