Supernatural 9/17

Did that last scene go on wayyyyyyyyyy too long?

Otherwise, a solid episode. Really good to see Ellen, Jo, and Rufus back in the game. I’m really looking forward to watching Castiel and Dean next week.

“No. God does not appear on any flatbread.”

Sam and Dean are broken up! Nooooooo!!!

Except I’m confident they’ll be back together within a couple episodes. Still, I made a sadface when Dean offered to give Sam the Impala.

The first, like, five minutes of the show? *Incredibly *slashy. That’s what I call fanservice, Sera Gamble.

ETA: Oh yeah, and Jo and Ellen! Yay! I hope they return for more episodes.

Looks like Sam runs into Lucifer next week or perhaps the following? Cool.

Glad the backup hunters are still around (and I liked the flicker of chemistry between Dean and Jo). I still wish that FBI guy could have survived to team up with Sam or Dean whilst they are split up, but I liked it. The revelation of the bad guy’s identity came a little out of left field, no?

I mean, War is a white guy in a suit? Edgy. Why couldn’t it have been a hot redhead as an homage to Good Omens?

Oh, and a little something to welcome the boys back. You miss it.

OMG. I heard that song in a cafe in India over the summer and just started giggling. That clip will never stop being hilarious.

Yeah, Henrickson could have been a huge asset to the show. I was excited when he realized Sammy and Dean are right, but hugely disappointed when they killed him.

Wait, didn’t I read somewhere that Eric Kripke suggested Henrickson is not 100% confirmed dead? Maybe he will appear, but it will seem forced.

I think that having been one of the raised Witnesses confirms his death pretty solidly. (And for what it’s worth, I think killing Henricksen was a terrible decision. He was a fantastic character, and I think that the deaths of Nancy and everyone else inside that station would have had more than sufficient emotional impact even if Henricksen had chosen that moment to go pick up some smokes.)

Either the CW or my DVR went all wonky for the last ten minutes. I got the gist that Sam and Dean broke up, did I miss anything else important?

I hate that Henricksen is dead. He was awesome. In my personal canon, he’s still alive and off hunting.

DianaG, Sam said that the evilllll inside of him is not from the demon blood or Ruby, but is actually part of himself, and although he has good intentions, he’s afraid he can’t control himself from going too far and he should stop hunting. Dean just pretty much agreed.

Then Dean offered to give him the Impala, but Sam turned him down.

Sam said he thinks he should leave.

Dean actually agreed, since Sam is struggling with Demon blood addiction.

They sat silently for a while. Dean said Sam could take the Impala, but he didn’t.

Sam got in some truck with some guy(who was that???) and they drove off.

Dean looked sad.

Credits.

Anybody want to give me the whole last half? Our DVR is about ten seconds away from getting thrown in front of a bus.

I liked the gritty cinamatography last night! But why did Sam and Dean have to break up? That’s just…upsetting.
I’m also glad to see Jo, Ellen, and Rufus back. And, “When you find him, tell him to bring new legs.” Hee!

I don’t think it was anyone in particular. It sorta looked like Bobby, but 1) he can’t very well drive without working legs and b) he wouldn’t drive something like that.

Nice to see Ellen and Jo again, but not nice that they were only around until War got all de-fingered. They coulda squeezed in another wrap up scene with them instead of the making the mopey dopey breakup scene so long.

So, in the next episode, is Cas going to meet up with his ex-girlfriend, and make best friends with a vampire? Or is he just going to go look in New Jersey for people playing ski-ball?

It’s entirely amusing to me that the while there are two comments in this thread about how the break-up scene was too long, the fangirls are all moaning that it was too short. They want more eye-fucking, presumably.

I’ve heard that in the next episode, Dean is taking Cas to a brothel. WTF. When I heard about this over the summer, I thought Kripke was joking. I’m still not entirely sure this isn’t a joke. I’m busy next Thursday, sadly, and will have to wait til Friday to find out.

Can somebody explain about the amulet? Did it have magical God sensing powers before or did the writers just pull that out of their asses?

The writers have often hinted (in interviews and such) that Dean’s charm would be somehow important, but in season 3 they showed that it was a Christmas gift from Sammy when they were little. Where the hell seven year old Sam got his hands on such a thing is something I’m hoping they’ll explain soon.

It’s explained in that episode (A Very Supernatural Christmas, probably the first, last, and only Christmas special ever to have a torture scene) that Bobby gave Sam the amulet to give to his dad. But then his dad disappeared, doing something far, far more important than spending Christmas with his kids, so Sam gave the amulet to Dean instead.

In other news, the writers totally just made up that shit about it being able to sense god. Okay then.

Ah, I remembered that Sam had originally intended it for John, but not that he originally got it from Bobby. Of course, no way in hell would Bobby have put something he thought could DETECT THE PRESENCE OF GOD in the hands of a seven year old. Or, for that matter, John Winchester. And one would think that Bobby would display some reaction to finding that he had once unwittingly been in possession of an amulet with the power to DETECT THE PRESENCE OF GOD, even if he is slightly distracted by the whole “never walk again” thing.

It’s still light years ahead of “Heroes.”

Goodness, I think that even taking into consideration these little lapses, Supernatural deserves much better than the faint praise of “better than Heroes”.
