Well, they brought back Sammy right away and Grandpa came with him.
Not sure if I’m buying any of the story that Grandpa and Sammy don’t know how they came back. Sam’s resurrection has to have negative consequences somewhere.
It definitely seems like Grampa has an ulterior motive. I’m intrigued. Are the Campbells really who they say they are?
What’s up with Sam? He didn’t want Dean to know he was alive for a year, and then he’s surprised when Dean doesn’t drop everything immediately to go off with him? I’m scratching my head a little at that.
I’ll comment on the actual content of the episode later, but right now I just want to bitch about the sound editing.
Supreme example of “aghh they are barely whispering I must turn the volume all the way up” then “agghh now all of a sudden everything is screaming and explosive and I must turn the volume back down to 3 or 4…”. Seriously, whispering “sounds” different enough that you don’t actually have to have it at a low volume, you can do the “stage whisper”. God I wish I had an intelligent volume adjuster.
Sam’s back for a whole year before Dean finds out? Jerk.
Was it just me, or was that montage of Dean in his “normal life” totally depressing? Was that what they were going for? I mean, he didn’t really seem that happy.
If the whole theme of this year is Dean trying to keep his “normal life” and getting pulled back into hunting, then I don’t want to watch. The whole “my family or my job” thing has been done to death on every other show on TV. (Speaking of shows like that - Hey, its Sam from Flashpoint! Hi, Sam from Flashpoint! Where was the rest of Team One? They could have taken out those Djinn in no time…)
The one part I did like was Sam’s total dismissal of Dean’s offer of his car. “I have my car set up the way I like.” I really don’t know why, but that tickled me.
The fangirls are split on this issue. Current theories include:
a. That’s not Sam.
b. Sam is still carrying some Lucifer in him.
c. Sam is Mystery Spot!Sam. (Um, if you aren’t a fangirl, you may not immediately get the reference, but remember in the season 3 episode Mystery Spot, when Dean dies and Sam goes totally out of his mind and turns into a scary OCD cold-blooded killer?)
d. Grampa AD Skinner is influencing Sam in some negative way.
e. Some combination of the above.
I don’t really have an opinion. I’m just hoping the show comes up with some kind of believable explanation instead of handwaving Sam’s weird behavior away. Also, that they do something better with his hair.
That was another thing I didn’t like. Sam is suddenly above ground, and neither one of them mentions Adam? Did he not get saved too? Is he still in the cage?
At least Cas got a mention. I think he is supposed to be back in Heaven. Oh, and he is not answering Sam’s prayers. Wonder what that could mean…
Oh, I know. But the people I know who obsess about the show are mostly women. I’m being a little facetious about referring to the fangirls, but it definitely reflects the demographics of the people whose opinions I mostly see.
