Supernatural 10/1: Two and a Half Men

The parents of missing babies are murdered.

Samuel will be featured, as well as a shapeshifter.

Just one little bump.

There is something VERY weird going on with Sam.

The Campbells’ behavior is striking me as almost cultlike. New theory: I think they have Sam brainwashed in some way.

Just watched and re-watched the episode. I’m thinking it’s a big improvement over the season opener, for starters. This was one of the more “horror movie” type episodes, even with the comedic interludes with the baby.

Random thoughts:

This may make me evil, but I’m glad at least one Campbell got ganked this episode. Get rid of the other slimy guy and let it be Sam and Dean and once in a while Samuel and Gwen and I’ll be happy.

I’m liking Lisa more and more. I wasn’t opposed to her being the one that Dean chose to go to in an attempt to have a normal life, but she’s obviously a smart and strong woman, exactly the sort of partner that a hunter would need. She knows what Dean himself keeps denying; that he’s a hunter. And surprise! She’s actually kind of OK with it. Wouldn’t be the first time a hunter had a non-hunter spouse, right? I kind of hope they keep her around and maybe have her kick some ass from time to time as well.

I hope I’m not the only nerd who had a geekgasm at the end when Dean uncovered the Impala; it reminded me of season 2 when the Metallicar made a triumphant return after Dean rebuilt her. Ackles nailed the nonverbal cues in that scene perfectly, and I’m only slightly embarrassed that I actually pumped my fist into the air at the end. Hells yeah!

I’m wondering if the Alpha thing is going to be a recurring theme; like the first and most powerful of EVERYTHING is roaming free now, so maybe the usual methods just don’t work. Could be an interesting take, see how they handle taking on what are essentially minor gods. It’s not like they haven’t taken on gods before, but taking on the Alpha werewolf or vampire should be pretty intense.

I know Misha Collins is a fan favorite, and I like the Castiel character, but I hope they don’t drag the angels and demons thing back into this season. At the same time, I do miss Cass and the deadpan humor. I hope they find a way to balance things out there.

I think it would be kinda neat if sometime this season, the bros (mysteriously of course) get a letter from Chuck pointing them in the right direction to solve a job.

This season will be a total failure unless the Ghostfacers make an appearance. Spin the tires, light the fires!

FFS, bring back Gabriel!

I thought that they maybe missed a chance with the shapeshifter; yeah, it was cool that it immediately shifted to Sam or Dean, but it really would have been cool if it had appeared as John, their dad. That would have really fucked with their heads! It would have been pretty much a cameo appearance for J.D. Morgan but it would have been awesome!

I still think it would be cool if Sarah Blake and Sam reunited. Then we could have TWO smokin’ hot kickass chicks on the show!

Bad news for you Cuckoorex, the angels and demons are returning. I don’t know how big of a role they’ll play in this season, but Cas is definitely in it.

As for the Campbells, it’d suit me fine if every one of them met a horrible end. I don’t like the lot of them, and I’m sure they’re working for a super secret government black ops thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if that FBI agent that Lilith offed back in season 4 is back and running the program. After all, it’s not like death is a permanent thing for anyone in this show. Thinking about it, I’m not even sure they are really Campbells. Could be that Samuel is just a shape shifter who’s working for the government, and the rest are just operatives.

I’ll agree with you about bringing Gabriel back, at least for one more episode.

Gabriel SHOULD be back. I mean honestly, the Supernatural universe simply will not stand for the permanent death of anyone it considers cosmically important, so if Sam and Samuel(!) (though apparently not Adam) rate, I can’t imagine that an archangel doesn’t.

Something’s obviously fishy with the Campbells, but they need to get to it quick, because I’m starting to not care.

As for Lisa, I’m annoyed. It’s nice that she loves him and understands and all, but “Stop in when you feel like it” is no kind of life for her and her son. That’s not noble, that’s masochistic.

I know we’re only two episodes in, but the tone so far worries me. I’ve been watching last season on DVD, and even the darkest episodes have laugh out loud moments. I don’t think I’ve laughed once so far this season. Where’s the fun?

I at least laughed when Dean gave a drip of Vodka to the baby. “Oh, yeah. It’s good, isn’t it?”

Dean giving booze to the baby caused me to once again long for a **Supernatural/Trailer Park Boys **crossover.

Why not? She seemed perfectly happy as a single mother before Dean showed up; now she’s a single mother with a boyfriend who stops by every now and then, which isn’t than much of a lifestyle change. It looks like the new relationship is tailor-made for her. After all, she doesn’t *need *a man around, either for herself or for her kid.

Also: that’s not Sam. Sam is still locked in the cage, and what we’re seeing is some sort of construct put together out of magic and memories. It thinks it’s Sam, but it isn’t.

Besides they are both perfectly aware of what Dean is doing. It’s not like the mom will have to lie to the kid about where Dean is and what he’s doing.

Meh. I’d have minded less if the phrasing didn’t imply fidelity to him while he’s off living his ‘real’ life. “Swing by when you’re around and if I’m free, we’ll hang” would have been fine with me. “I’ll be here waiting for you” is crap.

As for the son, it’s great that they don’t have to lie to him, but as previously noted “Daddy is a hero, doing big, scary, important stuff, and he doesn’t have time for us. Unless of course he’s dead, really no way to know. Let’s hope he’s alive, if so I’m sure he’ll check in soon.” is pretty much the same complex that Sam and Dean grew up with.

I’m guessing that before the season’s over, Lisa will have a new non-hunter boyfriend and that will be the end of it. Dean’s already said he doesn’t want to raise Ben into the hunter lifestyle and Sam already pointed out that’s exactly the road he’s headed down; so unless he decides it’s better to raise Ben as a hunter than to leave him ignorant and defenseless, I can’t see it lasting much longer. BUT, if Lisa is as kickass as I hope the character is, and she sticks around, then I’m on board with it.

@Mr. Accident: Yeah, I know angels and demons aren’t just going to disappear; I mean more in the sense of the overall mythology of the season. It would be OK with me if they still popped up from time to time, but maybe in the context of angels fighting demons in some nebulous “spiritual realm” or something while the bros take on the ubermonsters. As much as I love the Cas character, you can’t have what is practically an archangel dropping by all the time; at this point, he should be strong enough to take on pretty much anything, so why wouldn’t he just immediately gank the monster of the week? They have to keep him busy trying to fry some bigger fish (establishing order in the chaotic post-lucifer/michael thing) to keep him from helping out too much.

I’m still a bit annoyed that Lucifer killed off so many gods; would have loved to see episodes with a few of them. I guess Kali’s still alive, so she could make an appearance eventually. And of course many other gods weren’t present at the big pow-wow, so maybe Jupiter, Hera, etc, are still around somewhere. I think it would be really cool if the bros encountered Pan.

And of course, there’s always Cthulhu. And Death himself. Might be a bit out of their depth, as Dean might say. But now that the Impala is back, is there ANYTHING they can’t gank??

I missed most of the last half due to pre-wedding-in-my-backyard preparations.

Which is the best site to watch the ep. again?

If you don’t mind shelling out a couple of bucks, you can watch at Amazon, without any commercials. That’s how I’m watching Terriers, after waiting in vain for the ep to show up at Hulu or FX.

Amazon it is.

Don’t they have a way to test if someone’s a shifter? All that stuff Sam did last ep to prove to Dean he was real, at least some of that must’ve been to prove “not a shifter”.

Silver knives would make shifters burn. Dean performed the same test in Bobby’s presence to prove it was really him when he was raised by Cas. I doubt that Samuel is a shifter. Chuck brought him back for a specific reason, I’m guessing that there’s something that only he knows that is going to be crucial.

I’m wondering if Bobby knew Samuel when he was, uh, alive prior to this. He seems old enough, but who knows?

I want to see Ben gank a ghost or demon or something this season. Or have Lisa do it; that would be hotter, true.

My guest star wishes: David Hasselhoff, Sarah Michelle Gellar, or John Lithgow. HOLY CRAP! I just thought of something! What if the Ghostfacers met Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis? My mind just is aflutter with the idea!

I doubt it. He would have mentioned him to John, at least.

Yeah, you’re probably right. Samuel was supposed to have died in what, the late sixties? And John didn’t become a hunter until the eighties, after Mary’s death. So yeah, most likely Bobby never met Samuel before.
