I’ve made this comment many times myself. (about how it’d be better if I were a foot fetishist, not about how I wish I would become one. especially when sanding down dead skin and calluses)
Politicians and media figures who promote a climate of intolerance and hostility toward non-mainstream sexualities are no mere dipshits/assholes; they do real (if indirect) damage to other people.
Sure, but my criteria for using this super-power against an unconsenting person would be similar to using physical violence against that person.
Would I go up to Rick Santorum and punch him in the face for being a homophobe? No I would not. And so if I’m not justified in punching him, how could I be justified in mind-raping him? If Rick Santorum was in a back alley about to kill or rape someone, Batman would be justified in punching him to stop him. And so if I could use my super-power to stop him, it would also be justified.
It seems to me that using this super-power is more coercive and invasive that just beating the crap out of someone. So if you wouldn’t be comfortable merely kicking the shit out of a notorious homophobe, how could you justify mind-raping them?
Agree completely and mind-rape is exactly what that would be.
But the question of with not only consent but with the desire to change … more interesting. Okay, I get treating those with pedophiliac urges and such. But straight and gay?
Like “magic”, “superpowers” can just be thought of as science we don’t understand yet. You have the secret for actually effective and easy to implement sexual reorientation therapy. Call it a superpower, magic, if you want. Would it be a good thing if such sexual reorientation actually worked and was available?
How about changing it to “race” - you are in '40s America have the power to change a Black person to White … some want to avail themselves of that service as life would indeed be easier. Would being able to do that be a good thing?
When the actual problem is, to my mind, society, or self-loathing, I am not so sure that being able to change individuals doesn’t actually harm the greater good.
I’m also not sure how making someone mega-gay stops them from robbing a bank or unleashing their ninja army on the city.
Sure, I’d go to all those backwards countries and turn all the gay people straight. Save them a lot of trouble and pain. Especially those poor gay people stuck in arranged marriages would probably ppreciate it.

Definitely make the pedophiles all straight adult-seekers. That happens immediately. I think some of you insisting on asexuality for them are looking to punish. I get the urge, but don’t want to start down that slope. I’d like to think of this more like being a really good plastic surgeon. Let’s start with fixing all the cleft palates and then work our way into the cosmetic stuff slowly,with an eye to ethics.
Anyone who asks me to change their orientation would have to convince me that it’s for their own reasons, and not those of their family/friends/society. It’s gonna take more than one conversation, but I’m willing to consider it.
I suppose there are destructive fetishes, but I don’t want to create a vanilla world. If someone likes to expose themselves, let them find an appreciative audience. If they are only satisfied doing it to unsuspecting/unconsenting people, then we fix that.
In the case of those who are in power and using their power to harm LGTBQ+ folks, I see the argument to make them gay. But doesn’t the record suggest that they already are? Aren’t most violently homophobic people fighting against their own urges? I might try to give them a fetish for being open and kind, a kink for supporting all that is loving and consensual. Would that be possible, do you think?

There are folks who don’t know how to be kind to girlfriends or boyfriends, even to the point of keeping domestic violence victim shelters busy. I’d change their sexual attractions to wanting to make it with upholstered furniture. That way they’d be happy, and they wouldn’t make anybody else’s life miserable. That’s how I’d use it.
