Superpowers

this is inspired by the Crap X-Men powers thread.
Ok say that the Justice League had to kill one of it’s members for some reason unknown to me, and they selected you to be thier replacement. Which superhero would you choose and why?
I would have to go with the Green Lantern, he’s always been my favorite. (Whether it be Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, etc.), for this reason alone: my power would only be limited to my imagination, and I seem to have plenty of that going around.

I’m not sure exactly what you mean by ‘replacement’? Do we get the powers? The personality? The position?

If it were just powers, give me Martian Manhunter.
Position? Give me Batman. Superintelligent and rich ain’t bad.
Personality… Gimmie Eel O’Brien!!!

You remain the same, but thier superpowers are transferred to you.

Oh.
Do we gotta fight crime and such, too?

I would chose to provide comic relief by being constantly terrified of my pet monkey.

I’d choose to become one of the gimmicky “Associate Members” that were introduced over the years, one with a really “dated” shtick, like “Atomic Power Man” or “Micro-Transistor Lass” or “Junk Bond Yuppieman” or something like that, and I’d keep my powers and skill levels up to a level where I’d actually be useful and needed in action on a regular basis. Then, I’d show up to every single meeting, every battle, and when the reporters show up, I’d be at the front of the group smiling and saying “CHEESE!”

>:D

Ranchoth
(“Albatross Man”?)

Can I get a current roster listing, 'cause if Superman’s in there, I’m him.

I agree. A Green Lantern ring is like having a genie in a bottle, but without the risk of the genie eating you.

While we’re at the Green Lantern, could someone possibly point me to a site where I can look up the story of that? I read those comics as a kid and liked them, but I’ve completely forgotten what was the deal about it. Googling for it got me as far as that there was a ring that had to be reloaded after a while. But what was the specific power of that ring? And what is the deal with other people becoming the Green Lantern?

AFAIK I would probably go for the Green Lantern as well, then since it appears that he had the least interruption of his normal life having this superpower. Otherwise I’d side with Bruce Wayne as well. Never hurt to be rich and physically strong.

I don’t know of a site off the top of my head, other than to direct you to www.dccomics.com which has “Secret Files” - short and succinct versions of the originals and status of their major characters.

3600 Green Lanterns used to make up a Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force mostly made up of aliens. In addition, there were a number of “back-up” Green Lanterns. The Corps is no longer in existence, AFAIK, but there are still a few people who use rings.

ArrrMatey beat me to it: no question in my mind, I would be PlasticMan.

Soloman
Hercules
Atlas
Zeus
Achelles
Mercury
No particular hero in mind, I just felt like listing those names.

I can semi-hijack my own thread, can’t I? Can anyone tell me the name of the series where Hal Jordan eventually destroys the GL corps?

I would opt for the powers of Those Annoying Post Bros.

Makes Green Lantern look like bug by comparison.

Well, here’s a link to a large-ish page on the Green Lantern Corps. I hope it’s sufficient.

Good one, yes. The first link pointed out that Alan Scott was the one with which the comics started, but strangely did not have a bio. The second link did not make clear where I had to start but did have a description of Alan Scott. So together they did the job. Thanks!

When I learned, as a kid, that atoms were mostly space, I thought it was really unfair that I couldn’t slip through a wall. I still try it, occaisionally.

I finally saw someone do it: Dr. Strange (in a Marshall Rogers-pencilled comic – he was in a bank when robbers told everyone to “hit the floor”. He hit and just kept going…).

So I say screw the JLA, I want to be Kitty Pryde.

Billy Bateson is a wussy. Gimme Captain Marvel (Genis-vell) anyday.

Cosmically aware. Energy Manipulation. Has Father Issues. Insane.

I would be Ambushbug.

If it has to be someone from the JLA ( you didn’t specify only present members) then I’d want to have Doctor Fate or The Specter’s powers.
