SO confused by these republicans crying religious freedom. Here’s how it works. If someone says, “Wow. I’m glad gays can marry now”, and you respond with, “it’s an attack on Christianity,” by responding with that YOU’RE putting war on your own religion!
But that’s fine with me. Let 'em keep talking. The more they say about it, the more ridiculous they look.
As in Michigan, the governor of Ohio (potential Republican candidate Kasich) has stated that he disagrees, but now it’s settled law, so it must be accepted.
There were at least two marriages in Dayton this afternoon.
A lot of Republicans are saying the same sort of thing, but I can’t help but wonder if it’s mostly to placate their Party, and secretly they’re all, “WHOOO! FREEDOM! EQUALITY! AMERICA! FUCK YEH!”
Well, a lot of the most vocal opponents of gay marriage and LGBT rights seem to be getting caught engaging in teh ghey on a regular basis, so I can sorta see their point. The whole I can’t resist my baser urges when confronted with cut young studs prancing around in their gay-shorts and tank tops, all sweaty and slick with…ummm…where was I?
I’ve been seeing this little 30 second Tylenol ad on the TV for the past week or so.
About non-traditional families rather than gay families specifically, but it's a really nice piece of work -- and I don't know if it's new but it's kind of cool that it seemed to be in heavy rotation for the past week or so.
Queen Tonya and her husband witnessed our vows to each other four years ago. We went to an attorney and did as much as we could on the legal side then vowed our commitment in front of them. As soon as we can make it right in our schedules we’d like to have them be our legal witnesses. The sooner the better.
"Justice Kennedy’s deciding vote in the case, as well as his majority opinion, show that he has no right to have the word ‘Justice’ associated with him, and we need to take every step necessary to get a Constitutional amendment passed to overturn Obertizens Fellnited v. Hodgeral Gislection Commission.
No, not Citberg Unifell v. Federal Election Hodges - Obertizens Fellnited v. Hodgeral Gislection Commission! Don’t deflect from the point by replacing the basic human right the court upheld with that perfect example of legislating from the bench."
Scalia has been whining more than a sick toddler lately. I would know- Lil’ Neville was home sick from daycare today.
I’m glad that was a dissent. Otherwise, I might have to worry about my marriage when I get my tubes tied after Baby Neville is born next month. After all, I won’t be able to procreate any more…
The Bible has a lot more to say about interfaith marriages than it does about anything having to do with gays. The Bible is generally not in favor of interfaith marriages. Yet those are legal, and the anti-gay-marriage crusaders don’t seem to care.
I came out at 19 years of age back in 2000 and thought there was a good chance this might never happen in my lifetime. It’s absolutely amazing how far this country has come in less than 2 decades, to see the beginnings of marriage equality while I’m still relatively young. Kudos to the 5 Justices for making the right call!
But adultery IS legal in a number of states. There’s no law against it here in PA, or in many other states. Why haven’t we heard anything about this from the culture warriors trying to keep gay marriage illegal?
Jesus explicitly said that remarrying after a divorce was adultery. That’s legal in all 50 states, and these people don’t seem to care.
Not just the five Justices, but also the 11-out-of-15 Circuit Court of Appeals Justices and too many lower level federal and state court judges to count. Some people may grumble about “five people in black robes” but they were upholding the decisions of a vast majority of judges over the last decade appointed and confirmed across the political spectrum. This wasn’t “Kennedy just wanted to make history” but a decision reached that has been the prevailing opinion of a lot of learned legal minds. Frankly, it’s a little sad that it was a 5-4 split in the SCotUS and somewhat delusional to assume that it must have been Kennedy et al ruling based on politics or partisanship.
Not in Louisiana, where they are still delaying until their lower court case is heard. In fact, that’s how I learned of the news. Someone said “And Louisiana still won’t recognize SSM.” I was having a bit of a bad day and didn’t want to read any bad news, so I hadn’t looked.
