Supreme Court: Same-sex marriage legal nation wide

Breaking news on CNN…

Love wins.

I wasn’t expecting this. We—as Americans—have come a long way in a short time.

It’s about frikkin’ time.

Congrats to the LGBT community. One of the biggest moments in US civil/human rights history.

Awesome news:

Here’s the opinion:

I was just reading part of Alito’s dissent, he cites the ability to procreate as a reason to oppose SSM. I haven’t read his whole opinion but my first thought was “Really? That tired argument is being trotted out AGAIN? Is he also opposed to straight couples who can’t or don’t want to have kids being allowed to marry?”

Anyhow, yay. I’m quite happy about the decision, great day for the country.

As someone who was mildly against it (there’s a thread somewhere about it in these archives), I’m quite happy over the ruling. It’s about time to end such a loud debate over something that doesn’t hurt anyone.

Good Job Supreme Court!

Hahahahahahaaaaaa!!!

What was left of Scalia’s head has just exploded.

Finally the U.S. has entered the 20th century!

Almost. Still no universal health care.

Ask the nearest hippie!

Only figuratively, alas…

Nicely said.

So, from a practical standpoint, what needs to happen now before same-sex couples in the holdout states can start getting married? Can Adam and Steve show up at the county clerk’s office right when it opens and insist on a license, or does it take time for the ruling to trickle down to their level? Is there any more jiggery-pokery that Roy Moore or his type can use to try to delay things further?

Yeahhh! Great news!

I’m not sure, but my WAG is the ruling is immediate. Probably tomorrow at the very latest, gay people can get hitched wherever they can.

My only regret is that the split was so narrow. Reactionaries are going to complain about a 5-4 verdict, in ways that they wouldn’t be able to for, say, a 7-2.

I’m assuming he’ll go full George Wallace in the clerk’s doorway, not sure which county though.

More seriously, I read this, which is interesting:

And if some county clerk still refuses to issue a marriage license? Do you need to get a lawyer?

Still, great news.
