Arguments will be done via phone.
Weird. Everything is live-streamed in the Supreme Court of Canada. Telephone is pretty Lo-grade tech.
They record all arguments and release the recordings later. For the 2000 election case they released the recording early, a week or so later.
The live audio starts tomorrow May 4th. Maybe Obi Wan will call in
anyone listen in?
Yep. Definitely different. Each side gets a 2 minute opening and then they go down in the line in order of seniority to ask questions. Even Thomas had a couple of questions.
The case itself is pretty interesting and I’ve changed my mind four times now on who should win.
And history has been made: the live telephone proceedings include the sound of a Justice flushing the toilet! (and possibly sounds of … other things … )
US Supreme Court hears toilet flush during oral arguments - a first
The tactful BBC article doesn’t speculate as to which Justice is the culprit, but Slate goes there, with investigative-techno reporting, and concludes: it was Justice Breyer in the can with a No. 2 !
Investigation: I Think I Know Which Justice Flushed
(Demonstrates the advantage of live web-streaming - this never happens in the Supreme Court of Canada web-casts!)
