I had surgery on my back about 10 months ago to remove a mole. (3 inches to the left of my spine, 3 inches below my left scapula)
At the biopsy, they found some malignant cells and wanted to take more tissue out. This surgery needed “deep stitches” and surface stitches.
Since the surgery, I occasionally have pain in the area. I have talked to my PCP about it, and he says the deep stitches take time to dissolve, and scar tissue forms. I will feel some discomfort or pain from the scar tissue.
I found out since then I have Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome, and that I build up more scar tissue than normal people because of it.
I have also spoken with a couple of other doctors about it (one an orthopedic surgeon) and they agree it’s scar tissue. They’ve looked at the area and say it looks good on the outside.
Today the pain is excruciating.
The ortho surgeon told me that I can use an ultrasound machine at home to get rid of the scar tissue. I’m getting an ultrasound machine for an ankle injury. Buying the machine is cheaper than going to PT even with insurance. ($600 for 10 weeks of PT, or $250 to buy a machine.)
Is there anything I can do in the meantime to manage the pain? The ultrasound machine will take weeks or months to affect it, so in the meantime, what can I do?
Also, anyone have experience with consumer-end ultrasound machines? Is this a good one?
