My first PeeWee baseball team was sponsored by Piggly Wiggly. Our uniforms said Piggly Wiggly on them and everything. And yeah, we got made fun of.
The next year, my team’s sponsor was Tastee Freez, which was much cooler, especially since they treated the team to free ice cream for our after-season party.
When two Dutch friends of mine visited Atlanta, they went gaga over pecan pie (even took some home with them), steaks in general (which I gather are of superior quality in the US) and battered-and-fried Vidalia onion “straws.” (In particular they liked the “bloomin’ onion” at Outback).
But when I took them for barbecue at Fat Matt’s Rib Shack, they found even the mildest sauce almost unbearably spicy.
