It’s cool. You’re cool. I just didn’t want to thought of as a Trumpist.
< Turns green > No. Not caviar… < leaves room quickly >
You should tell your mother that the Democrats are giving her Social Security benefits to the cats and dogs that have been eaten.
The Trump Trade Representative is proposing high fees on Chinese-owned/operated/built ships carrying cargo to-from US ports.
From Reuters article
“Exclusive: Proposed US port fees on China-built ships begin choking coal, agriculture exports”
Seems to me this should be filed in the “Unexpected Upsides” file.
Someone should put the final nail in coal’s coffin and be done with it
Yes, indeed, but meanwhile I’ll be laughing at the WVA trump voters.
Dude! You know Czarcasm refuses to answer questions. You and I have called him out for this in what now? Three? Four threads? Meanwhile he’s the hypocrite because how dare you not answer HIS questions.
I’d let it go. He will NEVER answer questions. He’s proven that over and over again. It’s like trying to have a discussion with a Flat Earther or moon-landing denier.
So to recap, I don’t respond to questions about things I never said in the first place.
Buh bye.
This part is absolutely the truth. My cite is all of the other threads you refuse to answer questions where your shit gets called out. For example, your claim that Vermont is a red state.
Unfortunately, it’ll only drive business to other coal exporters. It might put the nail in US coal mining, but will also increase that of Chinese, Australian, or other coal mining.
And that’s fine. We’re down to 40,000 coal employees in the US, down from 180,000 in 1985. Coal employment peaked in 1923 at 860,000 and was at 350,000 in 1950.
Coal is, at this point, a tiny industry the punches way, way above its weight in US politics and is really distortive. And what’s left of the Coal Barons (cough, Manchin) still oversee coal areas like feudal lords.
And this is part of why I get incensed at the people whining about coal instead of asking how these communities transition away from coal. The war on coal is being waged by cheap and abundant natural gas, more efficient gas plants, and lower opex and maintenance costs of natural gas.
But still we all have to pretend to care about the noble coal miner without whom we’d all be sitting in the dark.
Fuck coal, kill coal.
Yeah. Rather than them just being replaced, destroying the US coal export business will likely mean a decline in the coal industry both here and abroad because they are artificially propped up for political reasons. Also a good thing in its own right as they are both polluting and hostile to humanity in general; I feel no sympathy for the coal workers at this point.
None of this is the miners fault. (except who they choose to vote for, perhaps). They work hard in a dirty and dangerous environment.
Which is enough. If they want to hurt everyone else, then “everyone else” is justified in despising them for it.
Anybody think these soon to be out of work coal miners voted for the nice Democrat lady? 70% of the WV vote went Trump, I’m betting the miners were higher than that.
Except I can’t tell you how many documentaries and stories about coal miners I’ve seen where their key demand is to prop up coal. It’s never “Hey- there are 120,000 people employed in wind energy, let’s redeploy to that!” This is one of those cases where the right bemoans handouts while demanding handouts. And, by the way, recall Manchin’s efforts to get a law requiring a certain amount of coal generation.
Fuck them.
Hunger smartens a lot of people up.
I’ve even heard of miners seeking retribution against POS mine owners.
( I’m related to one. Happy St. Patrick’s Day, you Thieving Sons of Bitches )
“He wasn’t Hung, he was Hanged.”
“Yeah, well you’ll have to fact check that claim with the mine owners wives…”
Not on the Right; they just hate harder.
More than 300 campsites at the lake will be closed until further notice, and the Inquirer notes that an additional 125 campsites will be closed at the Tompkins Campground in Tioga County thanks to Musk and his DOGE minions.
“Avid campers know that lakefront campsites are difficult to obtain in the summer, in Pennsylvania and beyond, and many are reserved well in advance of the season,” the Inquirer notes. “According to the Army Corps, refunds would be provided to campers who made reservations through Recreation.gov.”
Remind me… Who did Pennsylvania vote for in 2024?
Sounds like we need a Lab. Are we ready, Mister Wizard…?
