The article says they’re Mennonites, and seeing as they needed a translator they’re probably German-speakers, so probably especially devout ones at that. I don’t think this is Trump Crazy so much as just good old-fashioned all-American Religious Crazy.
So she votes for the guy who says that illegals are taking all the jobs away from the hard-working Americans who want them. But no American she knows wants to do the work. That tracks.
This needs something,
“The American worker doesn’t like labor for what we pay, they don’t like to do laborious jobs for what we pay,” Carlson said. “They don’t want to do the hard labor for what we pay, and that’s what’s frustrating, because we would love to hire U.S. workers for what we pay, but we can’t get them to show up for what we pay. We can’t get them to follow through for what we pay. We can’t get them to finish the season for what we pay.”
There, that’s more accurate.
Also a pretty common thing in practice, I understand. Get undocumented immigrants to do the work, then call in ICE and have them deported to avoid paying them.
So… she listened to everything that Trump had to say, and then cherry-picked what she wanted to hear, right..?
So we voted for the guy who hates the workers we can get to show up and make our business viable.
Where was she during the last Trump administration?
But she got her “drastic turnaround”. Just not in the direction she’d hoped.
I’ve seen some bullshit commentary that the child didn’t “technically die of measles” because ultimately it was pneumonia that killed her “and there’s no vaccine for pneumonia”. Pneumonia is a common secondary infection with measles and these morons wouldn’t have vaxxed for pneumonia anyways.
The stupid is so damn painful.
That’s up there with “well, I may have pushed him off the roof, but it was the ground that killed him”
Even the death of their child isn’t enough to change their mind. Nothing will.
I’m skeptical of their methodology (I don’t think they’d count me), but whatever the undercounting, and despite the output of graduates coming out of Moscow and Pullman, I think your point stands. Maybe a touch less so now given the post-‘rona population growth.
The cluster in Idaho Falls is due to the national lab, which was probably not the kind of chemists your company was looking for.
Well, “God’s Will” and all that …
I’ve done a very little work with seasonal ag workers in Michigan - all hailing from south of the El Paso and of varying immigration status. An astounding workforce/lifestyle, which - if you were not directly involved with them, would likely be entirely invisible to you.
But have NO doubt - the owner of a 1200 acre family cherry farm is WELL aware of how critical such workers are to their survival.
What a fucking maroon. I want Trump to pay to oust THOSE Guatemalans, but I want him to pay me to hire THESE Guatemalans!
Not sure if I’m being whooshed here, but there is a vaccine for pneumonia.
There are FOUR vaccines for pneumonia currently in use in the US, given to different ages from child to older adults. I just got the latest one (Prevnar 23) a few weeks ago and I’m 75. I also got several of the earlier ones, at least 13 and 20.
Presumably the Rio Grande?
Or “south of El Paso” without the “the”.
IOW, either / or, but not both.
We all get his point though.
Yep. What he has actually done is absolutely the pits!
So her life going forward is unlikely to be a bowl of cherries? Awwww.
Well sure, Trump was only going to deport the criminal drug dealing rapist Guatamalans, and the lazy ones who are hanging out in ritzy hotel rooms sucking off the government teet. Not the nice hard working ones she hires. Its the same way that all those Trumpist federal employees assumed their jobs would be safe because Musk was only going to fire the lazy ones that hate America.
