Surprises coming for voters for the Leopards-Eating-Faces Party

Yup. I still have family and several friends back in Arkansas, and the non-idjits (not coincidentally mostly non-family) are not surprised at all.

Besides Sarah Huckabee Sanders, don’t forget those useless lumps Tom Cotton and Fay John (jeez, I swear I’m not that old) Boozman among other Arkansas Republican Congresscritters, who are begging for federal aid after voting against it for other states.

I would guess that there would be a very limited exception if certain golf courses and/or local airports serving certain golf courses were ever hit.

Yep. Hurricane season should be interesting. And our local meterologists keep using “Dixie Alley” to refer to the number of tornadoes the southern US gets now. I haven’t seen this much in the national news, but western North Carolina is still screaming into the void for additional funds for Helene damage. It could be provided at the state level, but our legislators are so focused on doing everything they can to keep educational funding as low as possible that it takes ages for budget proposals to make their way through. (While sometimes described as a ‘purple’ state, NC’s legislative districts have been thoroughly gerrymandered to ensure the legislature is very red…at least they lost their supermajority during the last election.)

When FEMA fails to show up for the next hurricane that roars through Down East, I hope Stein makes it perfectly clear who is to blame.

Trump chooses not to use the word “genocide” for the atrocities of the Ottoman Empire against Armenians. Not surprising considering his similar behavior in his first term, but there were plenty of Armenians who were hoping for more. My Facebook feed has multiple Armenians making excuses for why Trump should be excused yet again. To be fair, the politics of the Caucasian region are complicated, but no one should be surprised that Trump doesn’t return favors.

To be fair, it was a disgrace that Obama never acknowledged it either despite an explicit promise to do so. Biden finally did so in 2021.

Trump loves Erdogan. Remember when the Turkish embassy staff beat up American protesters IN THE US and Trump said and did nothing?

That was actually, IMO, one of the most appalling things Trump did. Absolute dereliction of duty.

I’m an Arkansan, and it’s been a shit show since Huckabee took office. We start with the stupidest scandal, lectern gate, and right now she’s trying to build a prison in county nobody wants and without going through the proper channels. I wish I could say this will sour Arkansans on Trump, but I have my doubts.

I wasn’t sure where to put this one, but:

Trump: I ‘love the concept’ of millionaire tax hike, but ‘may not be acceptable to the public’

https://thehill.com/business/5267058-donald-trump-time-magazine-millionaire-tax-hike/

Pretty soon we’ll have lots of working class MAGA demanding we protect those poor millionaires from taxes, volunteering to shoulder more of the burden for the repressed rich.

Oh, but he thinks it would be too disruptive.

Now we know where the line is. Firing everyone in the government you don’t know and tariffs that amount to a trade embargo on everything aren’t too disruptive, but an additional 2% tax on rich people……that’s a bridge too far.

Nah, it’s like gun control. They just ignore the stuff they disagree with (they still really hate it when their hero suggests he may have to snatch their guns) and Trump gish gallops to the next thing they can latch onto instead and they can pretend he never said it in the first place.

Why would this be a problem when he can’t run again? Oh, wait. The Trump 2028 hats are already out there.

Pretty sure we already do. Not just in the tired “temporarily embarrassed millionaire” sense, but also in the “just world hypothesis” sense. That is, I have no doubt large swathes of the MAGA population believe that people are only wealthy because they deserve it. Because they really are better than everyone with less than them. Equalization of wealth is therefore an affront to the natural (god-ordained) order of things, not unlike their view of, say, people who are transgender.

Fascism is all about hierarchy. Getting the poor to willingly shoulder burdens for the rich is perfectly in line with their dogma.

And the rest of them think they’d be wealthy if it wasn’t for some tax or fee that’s going to cost them practically nothing.

No, that referendum to ding you an extra $35 on your property tax for the high school or the temporary, 0.5% sales tax hike to pay for the new library isn’t what’s holding you back.

It’s in part an example of the mentioned “just world hypothesis”. If wealth goes to the deserving, and they aren’t wealthy; why, that means that "Those People" are unjustly keeping them from getting their deserved wealth. Because the alternative is that either they aren’t one of the deserving, or that that wealth doesn’t naturally go to those who deserve it.

So they come to the conclusion that if they just get rid of "Those People", they’ll naturally become wealthy like they deserve. Thus all the emphasis on how (insert hated group) are parasites draining the nations wealth.

I’m sure he will, but I’m also confident that people won’t listen. Sort of like that meme that’s floating around now where the poster says something to the effect of “Yeah, tariffs are going to ruin my small business, but tariffs help the country and I’m a PATRIOT!!!”

Ironically, these are often the same people who, when some injustice is pointed out to them, will sneer, “Hey, life isn’t fair. Suck it up.”

Ooh! Ooh! I know! It’s Crooked Hillary and Sleepy Joe, right?

Gift link. Only three of the twelve “regret their vote.” All twelve are idiots, obviously, but the “white speech pathologist from Illinois” is especially stupid, IMO. She uses “Chicago” as a code word (as do some here in western Wisconsin) to mean “dark-skinned people that scare me for no good reason”…and somehow her fears are Biden’s fault, while Trump is just amazeballs (even though she still has those unwarranted fears, 100 days into Trump’s presidency.)

Other parts of the article contain leopards-eating-faces nuggets (401Ks, mostly – and a small-business owner who is in deep doo-doo due to tariffs).

Only one – the burly white guy from Pennsylvania – has no doubts at all. Full-speed-ahead MAGA. Blames the media for being too divisive, and the courts for daring to step in the path of the emperor-god Trump.

ETA: It’s interesting how the two things that supposedly most drove people to vote for Trump – “immigration” and “inflation” – were both improving for about a year before the election. By early 2024, both had reached levels that should be acceptable to just about anyone.
Yet they credit Trump for reduced immigration (while some acknowledge he’s going too far)…

…and as for inflation? Crickets. All deny that it was getting under control under Biden.
A few (falsely) claim it’s gotten much better just in the past 100 days. Only a few acknowledge it’s almost certain to get worse, due to his tariffs and other mistake.
Many say at least it hasn’t gotten worse (yet) under Trump – which is sorta true, but not what he’d promised. Mainly, it’s no longer an important issue to them, because it doesn’t fit their narrative.

(The stock market plunge IS more important, for some of them. Interesting. I guess because it’s a new, vivid, sudden splash in the face, unlike the gradual drip-drip of inflation.)

That article frustrates me. So much ignorance and delusion. The good news is 3 of 12 regret their decision. If you blow that up large scale, that is a lot of folks that realize they made a mistake (or something along those lines). And I bet the 3 of 12 grows to 4-6 of 12 in the next 6 months. Shit is going to get worse here soon.
