Oh you…
The GNU is the “Government of National Unity”, the term for the current grand-coalition administration of South Africa which includes the ANC (of Mandela fame), the DA (centre-right liberals) and a number of smaller parties. It notably does not include the EFF, the party largely responsible for the singing of the “Kill the Boer” struggle song, of which so much has been made by Trump, Musk et. al.
“The reality” is presumably the imagined persecution and/or “white genocide” from which they claim to be fleeing.
It’s specific to the site to which you’re trying to link. Some support OneBox previews, some don’t:
ETA: And …
Not a worry for Trump. The more he plays around with the plane, the bigger it will get. Trump has a history of the size of his phallic symbols being exaggerated:
Donald Trump’s Team Accused of Inflating Tower Size During Own Defense
And in an apparent demonstration of how the Trump family exaggerated their assets, the presentation included misleading information about 40 Wall Street in Manhattan, according to Dan Alexander, a senior editor at Forbes.
One slide displayed on the screen in court described the property, which was renamed The Trump Building, as a “72 story landmark building in the Financial District, directly across from the New York Stock Exchange.”
But 40 Wall Street is actually 63 stories tall, Alexander noted, citing documents filed with New York City and the Securities and Exchange Commission. The building is also around the corner from the New York Stock Exchange, not directly across from it.
Alan Garten, the Trump Organization’s chief legal officer, told Forbes that 40 Wall Street has 63 floors of commercial space but said that “when you add the space from 63 to the cupola, the building totals 72 floors.”
Trump’s lawyers also presented a slide claiming the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, is 64 stories tall.
But Alexander noted that an architectural drawing shows the floor numbers jumping from what appears to be the 8th level to the 16th, allowing the top floor to be numbered 64.
and
10 floors are missing from Trump Tower
Everyone has heard of buildings replacing the 13th floor with the “14th floor” in the elevator to avoid superstitions. But what about skipping a whole 10 stories in order to give floors at the top a higher elevator number?
That is a move belonging to none other than the noted New York real estate mogul Donald Trump. The Trump Organization claims that Manhattan’s Trump Tower rises 68 stories over Fifth Avenue, although databases such as the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats say the tower is only technically 58 stories tall.
I’m just surprised Trump’s never flown around in a blimp modeled on the Hindenburg but bigger. The Nazi symbols on the tail could be a marketing gimmick for more white supremacists to immigrate to the US.
He can just use the presidential sharpie to add features, like maybe a putting green. On a wing.
Maybe the can be encouraged to do that. While smoking a cigar.
I’m reminded of a joke from a more innocent era that’s now a little dated but could easily be updated.
Q: What’s the difference between Rush Limbaugh and the Hindenburg?
A: One is a flaming Nazi gasbag. The other was a German dirigible.
I heard a woman on NPR yesterday (don’t remember her name) who has flown on AF-1, and she said it carries a lot more fuel than normal which makes for a “shuddery” take-off. She said maybe Trump doesn’t like that. Does that make sense to you @LSLGuy ?
That jet is much heavier empty than a stock 747. So even w typical fuel loads it’d be heavy by 757 standards
4-engine jets have slower takeoffs than modern 2 engine designs. I bet they’re more reacting to a longer slower acceleration than ordinary airliners they’ve ridden.
The Hindenberder.
Dandy contribution, sir.
What is a “centre-right liberal?”
I mean, how can a liberal be right of center? Definitionally seems impossible.
(of course, the center moves…see Overton Window)
Liberals in general, according to leftists. Just as rightists equate “Liberal” with Stalinism/Satanism. The meaning of “Liberal” tends to depend more on who is using it than anything else, but it’s usually whichever option the speaker considers most insulting.
Did you catch this part?
Classic cons for him: don’t pay for work already done and refuse to obey a court order.
Is there anything, anything at all, that he can do that does not disgrace a once proud country?
Yeah, liberal doesn’t roll off the tongue well, which is why liberals often self-identify as progressives. Libertarian leaning conservatives sometimes self-identify as Classical Liberals, probably because they look down upon religious conservatives. “Dude: you’re a conservative.”
Exhibit A:
This one is from work yesterday:
Two middle-aged/elderly ladies are waiting in line to check out, both bemoaning the rising cost of groceries while being on social security. The details don’t matter much, what matters is the last line spoken by one of them:
“We just need to give Trump a little more time to fix things, then these prices will come right down.”
So, just confusing people. Nothing new about it I guess. Still shitty trying to pretend you are something you are not.
The DA is a right of centre liberal party because the center in SA politics is basically communism by US definition.
They are liberal because one of it’s ancestral parties was a liberal party formed in opposition to the very right wing, straight up fascist, National Party. They stayed liberal because the ANC is a very left wing, socialist with support from the Communist Party, party.
This is only confusing if only US centric definitions of left, right, liberal etc. are used.
Are you saying that only in the US liberal = left of center and conservative = right of center?
That is unique to the US?
