Surprises coming for voters for the Leopards-Eating-Faces Party

Oh, huh, that’s the group I’ve been working with. I’m surprised i didn’t hear about that.

Not exactly a supporter of Trump, but this seems like the best place to put it.

ETA: no one box, so here’s a snippet:

The Secret Service questioned James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, on Friday about a social media post he made that Mr. Trump’s cabinet officials and allies claimed amounted to a call for Mr. Trump’s assassination, according to a law enforcement official.

The Secret Service sought the interview after Mr. Comey posted a photo on Thursday of seashells on a beach forming the numbers “86 47,” a phrase used by Mr. Trump’s critics at protests, and on signs and clothing. “Eighty-six,” according to Merriam-Webster, is an old slang term meaning to dismiss or remove.

Sadly, i suspect there are a whole lot more like them out there.

The memes about Republican hypocrisy are already out there. Comey posts a pic of seashells spelling out “8647” and some on the right declare him a domestic terrorist advocating presidential assassination.

Trump posts a video last year of a pickup truck with a picture of a hog-tied Biden and it’s political free speech that MAGA cheers. That depicts an explicit act, not some restaurant shorthand code.

Refresher:

Trump posts video with an image of a hog-tied Biden, drawing a rebuke from Democrat’s campaign

WASHINGTON (AP) — Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump drew criticism Friday for posting a video on social media that contains the image of a hog-tied President Joe Biden painted on the tailgate of a passing truck.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung responded Friday night: “That picture was on the back of a pickup truck that was traveling down the highway. Democrats and crazed lunatics have not only called for despicable violence against President Trump and his family, they are actually weaponizing the justice system against him.”

The U.S. Secret Service released a statement saying it “does not confirm or comment on matters of protective intelligence.”

The former president posted the video on his social media site, Truth Social. His caption said the video was taken in Long Island, New York on Thursday, when the former president attended the wake of a New York City police officer who was killed during a traffic stop.

The posted video shows a passing truck decked out with “Trump 2024” and flags claiming support for police, with the picture of a seemingly helpless Biden with his hands and feet tied painted on the rear of the vehicle.

With reference to the examples in this thread where posters did not understand why people self-identifying as Trump supporters, and who were personally victimised by Trump admin policies, still identified as Trump supporters:

I can totally understand their post-leopard-attack statements to media.. It is a feature of Trump being in power for at least some years, and being known to be vengeful and not feeling bound by the rule of law.

Someone who has been on the receiving end of economic hardship and/or arbitrary arrest of family members etc, is vulnerable to getting more of the same.

If, in the times of European absolutism, the Royal leopards had snacked on my face, I certainly would not have spoken out against His Majesty (unless I had a death wish). I would have praised his Majesty, and humbly suggested that perhaps His Majesty might graciously look into the Royal leopard keeper ill serving His Majesty. What I’d have thought in my heart of hearts would have been quite different.

I’ve largely been covered by other responses here - but yes, the Overton Window is very much further left in South Africa. The DA is (very broadly speaking) in the same zone as the Liberal Party of Canada or the Liberal Democrats in the UK. In the South African context that makes it mildly right of centre. The nominally social-democratic ANC would be considered centre-left.

Reminder that the US is the only developed country in the world lacking Universal Healthcare, reflecting broad-based support for the concept in the center-right in most countries. Here in the US, it is vehemently opposed by the Republican Party, to the extent that a partial step in that direction is vilified by GOP politicians.

So yeah, liberals are center-right in many countries.

I don’t give them that much credit. I think they are 1984’s Tom Parsons brought to life. Let their children turn them in to the Red Hat Gestapo and they’ll be going on about just how industrious they could be in a forced labor camp in El Salvador.

These people are too stupid to connect the dots and it’s time to stop talking to or about them as if they ever will. Fuck them. Fuck all of them. If they want to prove me wrong, it’s up to them. Until they do, they are not worthy of our attention beyond scorn and mockery. No more olive branches to the right.

This is like saying, “Is this all you can conjure, Saruman?”
Please, don’t say things like that again.

Saruman?

If they feel that Trump’s wrath can even reach down to their level, Joe Ordinary, as opposed to high-profile public figures like judges and legislatures that says a lot about their assessment of Trump’s power – real or perceived – and begs the question why they did not reach this assessment before they voted.

Stupid’s forever but ignorance can be fixed. Deliberate ignorance not so much.

Those claiming in the media that they voted for Trump may not in fact have voted for Trump. Regardless of how they voted, it makes sense for them to pitch their plight to the king’s supporters. I think it’s probably best to take reports at face value, but I’ve kept Mops’ perspective in the back of my mind.

Those poor Tasmanians, what did they do to miss out?!

this in The Lord of the Rings: the villainous wizard Saruman had an army attacking the fortress of Rohan, and after his men repulsed a first assault, the king of Rohan utters this sentence and soon after another assault with new weapons break the walls.
so not tenting fate…
