Surprises coming for voters for the Leopards-Eating-Faces Party

Guac is always extra.

Intriguing. It’s never occurred to me to choose GUAC with a TACO.

I can’t argue against what our government is right now is definitely a circus.

Your pic reminded me of something I saw yesterday for the first time.

An ordinary nondescript car driving down the freeway with a large sign on the driver’s door. We’ve all seen those stick-on or magnetic signs for real estate agents, etc., for years. This one was much brighter and about 50% bigger; it really filled the space below the window.

It was a pic of trump with an upraised fist in front of an American flag. With “Take Back America” across the bottom.

Ugh. As Bill Engvall used to say:

Here’s your sign!

I truly don’t understand how anyone could be that enthusiastic about a politician. Any politician.

I’ve noticed Musk has been openly criticizing the Big Beautiful Bill and I’ve been wondering how long it’s going to be before Trump turns on him. I know it’s coming because he always turns on those closest to him, and Musk has way too much ego for Trump to tolerate for long. He needs to be the #1 guy.

That’s a day I’m gonna be happy to see.

I don’t either. I keep reminding my teenage kids that there was a time in our nation’s history, not too long ago in fact, when people didn’t fly flags with the president’s name on it. It’s absurd that people do now.

Imagine a countryside with “Carter” or “Eisenhower” flags scattered about. It’s ridiculous.

It’s a cult. Somehow, the worst, whiniest, weakest person has created a cult of personality.

I remember back in 1980, when Reagan won, seeing some drunk guy on the news toasting his win while sloshing a lot of cheap beer around, and thinking, “Damn, that seems kind of weird, to be that enthusiastic over an election…”

I mean some people were pretty happy when Obama won. Some people got really into Obama. But I never did. He seemed great to me, it’s probably the most enthusiastically I’ve ever voted for someone, but it did not occur to me to buy a painting of him or fly a flag or anything.

The desire to be an authoritarian dictator runs in about 1% of humanity. The desire to worship an authoritarian dictator runs in about 30% of humanity.

They have their messiah now and they are filled with ecstatic visions.

Musk’s backing of Trump has gotten some wins for him in government contracts for Space X and Starlink, and gutting of agencies that were investigating his companies (and not having to hide his Nazi colors). But now the leopards have come for the EV and solar tax credits that are important to Tesla. No sympathy; I’m sure he’ll be fine.

Living here in Chicago (Obama’s adopted home town), I saw a lot of Blacks wearing Obama hats and shirts, particularly in the first few years of his presidency. However, I think that was at least as much about seeing him as a symbol of change in the country’s historical racism, and that a Black man had become president, as it was any sort of worship of him (a key difference, compared to how MAGA folks view Trump).

To be fair, most of that was the assist from NBC. He’s too lazy, unfocused, and incapable to have done it all by himself.

Rick Wilson of The Lincoln Project pointed that out in a video on YouTube today (a quick observation around the 3:30 mark):

[edited slightly by me from audio transcript for clarity]

That conceit that Trump is a great negotiator is all you know what we call the apprentice effect, because people watched The Apprentice back in the day and they thought “Oh he’s a negotiator. He’s a brilliant dealmaker. He’s a CEO. He’s a corporate executive.” He was a reality TV star playing a role that was written for him by writers. Was not Trump.

Writers wrote that story and he portrayed that on television. Donald Trump is not a great negotiator. He is not a great dealmaker. He has historically never been a good dealmaker and he always chickens out.

TACO: Trump Always Chickens Out

This week, Rick’s Elephant in the Room unpacks TACO Trump. (And, kudos to the Wall Street Bros who coined the “perfect” term – “Trump Always Chickens Out.”) As the anthropologist on Donald Trump, Rick (who has studied this man for over ten years – thank you for your service!) sheds light on how TACO applies to all aspects of Trump. This flacid, feeble, fatuous fool is not the strong man he thinks he portrays. Completely inept, played by dictators, confused by intelligent people, and obsessively corrupt, Trump has always been a weak, small, stupid man in politics, in business, and in his personal life. Regardless of the news cycle, there’s one thing we can always count on – Trump Always Chickens Out, no matter the stakes.

“I have some bad news for you, Donald–math is hard; it’s harder when you’re stupid.” was a great line.

@LSLGuy nailed it in the “current trump admin” (non-pit) thread:

The “incurious and unthinking and mostly stupid” people are ripe for a Magic Messiah who will take over their brains and turn them into robotic sycophants.

Also this:

Because Kellyanne Conway said 'microwaves that turn into cameras can spy on us ', I printed out a picture of Obama with a camera, and taped it to our microwave oven. It’s still there, and reminds me everyday of how America was once great.

I get that people fall for cults, fake messiahs, and charismatic con artists all the time. I just don’t understand how such a weak and whiny person managed to get that kind of following.

I didn’t watch the Apprentice. I guess he did a good job acting like a strong tough guy there.

It is a mystery, for sure.

Is it, though? This meme has been around for years:

Trump is a poor man’s idea of a rich man, a weak man’s idea of a strong man, and a stupid man’s idea of a smart man.

I personally know people who told me Trump is always the smartest person in the room and that he’s an incredibly successful businessman because that’s what they thought from watching The Apprentice.
