Warren Buffet is 94 years old. I think his chance at political power is a bit past its sell-by date.
(That’s from the quote inside C-S’s post.
I must be an alien or something, because I have essentially no allegiance to political parties. It just so happens that the Democrats are much more closely aligned with me, but if they started chewing on my face, I would drop them immediately.
I’m a much more dedicated Islanders fan than a Democratic voter. I really don’t see how anyone can care that much for a party unless they are in political office or hope to be.
Oh, wow! Good find! I love the part where she committed a felony by reentering the US after a prior deportation, but her family apparently considers her an example of a non-criminal being deported? Ha! Since the article indicates that she also (not just her USC husband) supported Trump’s agenda, I am glad she is being deported and hope her husband joins her there. Fuck the lot of ‘em (sorry to those of you about to be on the receiving end).
Even that wouldn’t have helped. I was asking a Trumper here in Canada why he wanted Trump to win, and he used the whole “Successful businessman” line. I asked him how he squared that with Trump’s multiple bankruptcies, and he’d literally never heard about them, despite bragging about “how many websites” he read every day. So, they think he is a successful businessman, so that added limitation would have no effect.
Yeah, in 2016 I made a social media post saying one of the reasons Trump was unqualified was that he had mental health issues. A MAGA replied: “How can such a successful businessman have mental health issues?”
I asked: “What makes you think Trump is a successful businessman?”
Reply: “Haven’t you seen The Apprentice? Just Google him.”
Since birth they were indoctrinated that Rs embody everything good about America, and especially the Dream, while Ds are anti-American saboteurs.
They may have lived up to age 25 never hearing anyone say anything remotely favorable about the D’s people or ideas.
If you love America you are an R, period. If you don’t, you’re probably a D. A despicable D.
May as well tell a Baptist that Jeebus is a lie and Islam is the One True Path.
The monoculture out there in ruralia applies to more than just crops. It’s not about policy. It’s about Faith.
DJT isn’t a successful businessman. He just played one on TV.
I’m pretty sure that that was @dasmoocher 's point.
I went to grad school at Penn for social work and we were right next to the Wharton school. There we were grinding along in unpaid internships and debating social welfare while these guys get wardrobe stipends and talk about maximizing profit margins or whatever. But we all ate lunch in the same cafe.
I think about this contrast a lot, especially as a Wharton grad is currently taking great pains to crush all of us scrappy little do-gooders.
I have no doubt that Trump’s family paid a lot of money for him to go to Wharton. I find it questionable he got through it in any way other than nepotism.
Also remember that Trump’s degree from Penn, and the Wharton School, was a bachelor’s degree. Certainly a prestigious thing, but it’s the MBA program which is what Wharton is known best for, and which is what’s really respected in the business world.
You know how there’s a category of things you believe 100% with zero proof? I’m absolutely certain that people were paid to take Trump’s exams and write his papers.
I believe that there’s a section in Mary Trump’s book about her uncle where she states exactly that, and names a guy (now deceased) who was allegedly one of the people who wrote Donald’s papers for him.
Yes, AIUI, in the high-level business world when you say you went to Wharton, you’re implying that’s where you got your MBA.
I’m surprised some Christian college hasn’t given Trump an honorary doctorate so Trump then could insist on being addressed as “Doctor” Trump and Dr. President (although I seem to recall the MAGAs objecting to Jill Biden being called Dr. since she had an EdD and not an MD).
I wonder of the MBA program has oral exams, or some other requirement he couldn’t cheat his way through.
A friend did an MBA program for people already working. Classes were at night and on weekends. The students progressed as a cohort and were broken down into teams to work on various projects in person, so it wouldn’t have been possible to have someone take your place and do all your work. His cohort was maybe 20 people. A stand-in would have to do the whole thing and then there’s the problem of “Hey! You’re not the Donald Trump from my MBA at Wharton!” when out in the real world. And Trump’s father was a known entity in the NYC business world back then. There’s even this:
"Old Man Trump " is a song with lyrics written by American folk singer-songwriter Woody Guthrie in 1954. The song describes the racist housing practices and discriminatory rental policies of his landlord, Fred Trump, father of President Donald Trump.
…
In December 1950, Woody Guthrie signed a lease at the Beach Haven apartment complex owned and operated by Fred Trump in Gravesend, Brooklyn.
I doubt Trump could fake his way to a Wharton MBA back then, but I don’t know how it worked back in the sixties to get an MBA. But I think people would know who Trump was and if he was never in an MBA class but bragging about it.
I generally think of grad school coursework as much easier than undergrad, at least that’s been my experience and my husband’s experience, but for a professional degree, a masters may have a lot more group work, internship or on the job requirement, etc. I’m pretty sure at Wharton MBA internships are required which is why they get a wardrobe stipend.
Man, the Trump family. Known scumbags for how long? Didn’t the first Drumpfs in North America get up to some shady shit? I knew there was a Woody Guthrie song, but I’ve never heard it. Looking at the lyrics…bloody hell.
Beach Haven is Trump’s Tower
Where no black folks come to roam
I concur. In general, the mantra seems to be “hard to get an A, even harder to get a C.” The same was true for law school as well in my experience.
They objected because she is a lib woman. They would absolutely love to call him Dr. Trump. The merchandising would be off the charts.
Coming to America: The Life of Frederick Trump
This video (17 minutes long but humorous) reports Trump’s grandfather left Europe rather suddenly (I’ve heard possible to avoid military service) and made some money running saloons that functioned as brothels.
Sounds about right–avoiding military service and involvement with sex workers. The orange didn’t fall far from the tree except it seems Trump didn’t get his grandfather and father’s business acumen.
