I appreciate the seniment. It would be nice if we were all better than that. But I think we are past the point where we can be thinking about anything but effectiveness. Will a tactical application of merciless mockery help to supress the enemy’s morale and willingness to turn out for their cause, and the converse for our side? If so, bring it on.
By itself it’s not enough of course, but every little thing helps.
It’s not as if we are dealing with honorable and decent opponents after all.
Good for you. Trump has no excuse, of course, he was born with not just a silver spoon in his mouth but a whole set of silver cutlery and supposedly had the benefit of actual education in real schools. I’m not talking about people like him nor was the post that set off this tangent.
Nope. It will just provide them with yet another grievance they will use to justify their awfulness.
My wife’s uncle is a Trumper. His daughter is married to a black man and they have children that look more like him, than blonde her. They have cut him out of their lives, the last time I saw this uncle, he was lamenting the fact that they cut him out and I said, “what’d you expect? You voted to lynch their kids, your grand children; three times.”
I suspect my father in law will pay closer attention now, when I say I don’t want to be invited to stuff if his brother is going to be there. FIL has a habit of not respecting people’s wishes.
He started to answer that he Republicans are tired of being called racists and that’s why he voted for Trump, or something. It got heated very quickly. At about that same instant, my FIL interrupted and said that they had to go to see their sister who lives nearby and my wife said it was time to go. I was answering that if he’s tired of being called a racist, maybe he should ask himself why people are always calling him one, but my visit was officially coming to a close at that point.
Prior to this event at their house, I had told my FIL in no uncertain terms that I did not want to be at any events if his brother is there. He has a habit of ignoring things he doesn’t want to hear. This was earlier in the summer and I haven’t been back since, although my wife still sees them, they live an hour away.
Both my wife and I were USAID funded aid workers who saw our careers and life work ,destroyed by Trump. My wife had told her father that she didn’t want to see someone who voted for her life to be ruined, but the uncle was a “surprise.”
I’m up an hour before dawn, and I don’t have a farm to tend to. Most of us are up before dawn. It’s called taking care of life. And we don’t have millions of dollars to fall into.
They don’t need you or anyone else to to provide them with grievances to justify their awfulness. They’ve already made up several, and will keep on making them up until we are all food for leopards unless we beat them.
Facts do not matter to these people. Only power does, be it economic, social, or political. Or physical.
This. You can pander to them, insult them (telling the truth does that by default), make up lies about them, or just fall down and froth at the mouth and it won’t make any difference because they don’t care about facts. At all.
Heck, odds are you can insult them and they’ll totally ignore it to make up some slander about how you’re a pedophile cannibal, instead.
These are people who, in support of Trump, wore diapers to public events.
You can’t insult people that don’t give a fuck about what anyone thinks of them.
Since this is the pit. I will say fuck them. If they are that far gone, there’s no reaching them. Making them look ridiculous might, I say might, have a chance at reaching the ones who are not that far gone.
It’s difficult to parse all the polls and surveys, but it seems to me that about 2/3 of the R’s are indeed too far gone, but there’s another third who cannot be persuaded to vote Dem, but could be persuaded to stay home.
I got to this through reddit, where people posted screenshots of the comment feed, but I don’t have Twitter so I can post a link to the twitter page but can’t verify the comments shown at reddit.
That said, it seems that Chuck Grassley tweeted a picture of his grandson’s wife holding her brand new naturalization papers. Oh, not only is she an immigrant, but she’s black and from Ethiopia.
Let’s just say the commenters did not hold back. It seems that even open use of the N-word is now in play, and we see such delightful screen names as Nate Higgers
