Surprises coming for voters for the Leopards-Eating-Faces Party

But who has the gravitas to pull off that plan? Vance? MTG? Mike Johnson? Gov. DeSantis or Abbott?

These parts floored me -

I am even paid a living wage to care for my son.

I am a Medicaid provider because I am paid to care for my son, as are my son’s physical therapists, occupational therapists, primary care physicians, specialists, case managers and others.

Somehow, I find it hard to believe that she would be in favor of paying parents to take care of their non-disabled children. She probably wouldn’t be in favor of paying people to care for their own relatives under any circumstances if she didn’t benefit herself. And apparently , she is employed so there must not be any means test.

Yeah. She’s probably one of those that was against Biden helping out people with student loans because she doesn’t have one and fuck those that do.

It didn’t for me until I signed into my NYT account. YMMV.

Did you seriously just imply Trump has gravitas? Do you know what the word even means?

OK, sorry about that, thanks for adding the link!

Hell yes. Gravitas does not have to be positive. At least in my experience. Successful cult leaders have gravitas. Now if you think I am implying MAGA is a cult, I can neither confirm nor deny that.
Or maybe I am misusing that word. If so, then what is it when you have that force of personality that people are naturally drawn to you and your ideas?

You are.

Charisma? Showmanship? Money?

I don’t think it has to be positive, exactly - but every definition of it that I can think of involves seriousness, presence, dignity. Not words I would use to describe Trump. Are you perhaps thinking of something more like charisma or charm?

The closest he has come to displaying gravitas in anything I’ve known about him was when he stepped out of his private meeting with Obama after he had won, and he had a look on his face like “what did I just get myself into?” He of course was probably just faking it, but there’s also a chance Obama told him something unexpected like about nukes or area 51 or something that genuinely fazed him.

It’s more than charisma. Like the uber-charisma people have where you just can’t help but listen to them and see them as a leader. It is so hard to explain. But then here is a question, wouldn’t Trump have gravitas according to a MAGA? They see him as serious and dignified and a strong leader.
But regardless of if it is gravitas, charisma, or something undefined, the fact remains he has it and no one else in the MAGA arena does, hence (hopefully) MAGA dies with him.

I don’t know about that - I’ve heard from plenty of them who don’t think he’s in any way dignified . They also seem to think that’s a good thing. What he really is is something more like someone I knew who I described as a Pied Piper - he had the ability to get people to follow him ( I can’t stomach calling that “leadership”) and he then proceeded to lead them right off a cliff.

But I agree with you that his possible successors don’t have it.

Pied Piper of Lemmings? I love that visualization. Mostly because it’s others he leads off the cliff … hence this thread.

I agree….there is a bubbling meme waiting to surface with that image. Pied Piper of Pedophiles…Magas…?

Trump doesn’t have gravitas. He’s a moron, a clown to be laughed at.

He has zero respect, no ideas, he can’t form a complete sentence and often doesn’t use the correct words when he tries.

He couldn’t follow a train of thought if you hooked his fat caboose to the end of a Union Pacific box car.

Gravitas. It is to laugh.

Honi soit le Doper qui rit.

We are past that. We’ve agreed it is not gravitas but rather he’s a Pied Piper. Of what now is the debate.

Trump is a superstimulus. He’s bigoted, selfish and stupid, ignorant, irrational and crude, malignant, dishonest and a rapist; and he therefore massively appeals to a Republican base who has been trained to admire all those things.

But they’ll claim that they are against all of that. It’s a puzzle.

I don’t get it. A person says they believe

How we care for our most vulnerable reveals what we believe about ourselves.

and is a Proud Conservative.

Conservatives believe that the government has no place caring for the vulnerable. They believe people should care for themselves, adults are to perform useful work so that they can care for themselves and their children. Adults should not be relying on the government for payments to care for their families.

If there’s any single point that conservatives themselves should 100% agree on, it’s that. It’s not even behind a fig leaf, there’s no respectable veneer hiding their true intentions. They want you to know it’s their goal.
