A nurse who voted for Trump twice is pleading for for him to reverse a Dept. of Education decision that nursing is not a “professional” occupation.
The DOE’s classification regards chiropractic and theology as “professional” careers - but not nursing.

Tyson Foods shutting down major beef processing facility in Nebraska, laying off over 3,000 workers. Why in this thread? Guess who NE overwhelmingly voted for? Chomp chomp.
I wonder what percentage of those workers are undocumented immigrants? Most I’d bet. And more power to each of them.
If most of the employees were undocumented, the locals will celebrate this outcome. Until suddenly they notice all the payroll dollars missing from the local economy.

And even if not undocumented, they aren’t white folk. But as you say, that is soon to be 3000 people that used to get a paycheck that won’t be. People that pay state and federal income tax, state sales tax, pay rent, go to restaurants, etc. I feel bad for those getting laid off, but not for the city and state. You reap what you sow.

I live here and read three to four local newspapers a day. This outcome is not being celebrated by the town of Lexington or in its environs. By the troglodyte keyboard warriors posting on FaceBook from hundreds of miles away, maybe. The lost jobs are hard, harsh work, that native Nebraskans will not do. The community prospered with the influx of new workers and their families. Their solid public school system will collapse for all the children, no one wanted that nor voted to achieve that.
The 3,000 workers documented or not, while paying lots of taxes, certainly didn’t vote for this because very few of them are citizens and registered to vote, so don’t lay it on them.
