Surprises coming for voters for the Leopards-Eating-Faces Party

If this happened, MAGAs would be crowing about how they’re all going to get rich on the backs of increased steak sauce sales.

It’s actually a Johnny Popper (John Deere) Model 50, which can clearly be seen in the video shown in this article. Google tells me that the Model 50, which replaced the B, was manufactured from 1952-1956.

Note: I would advise against watching the entire video, unless you’re a glutton for severe punishment.

[bolding mine] Well, good! At least they joined the latter half of the 20th century! It might even have electric start! Sure, a 6V system. Small steps!

(eta: I don’t hate JD. I just used to hate going 'putt-a-putt-a" when I’d play with my farm toys. )

That particular tractor in the picture/video is a well-restored machine.

And, by the way, I grew up operating Johnny Poppers!

I feel like I’m getting the runaround trying to learn about tractors.

Try this: John Deere A gained fame as ‘Johnny Popper’.

But yeah, that name has a few other uses. Just don’t add Karl Popper to the mix or you’ll really be off on a goose chase.

It’s The Hook for you!

I would have more sympathy for them if it weren’t for the fact that Trump did massive damage to the agricultural sector during his first term too. He hurt them badly, and yet somehow they believed that this time everything would be sunshine, lollipops and rainbows.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me over and over for years, I must be a Trump supporter.

But, anyway…

Whoa for a second, there, I thought…(yeah yeah I know it’s the tractor)

I wonder how many farmers have a mindset like, “I’m stuck, now, with an oversupply of soybeans? Meh, I’ll just wait for another gov’t bail-out.”

Pretty sure, however, the vast majority of the farmers still view it as “Fair Trade, Not Aid”.

As I’ve mentioned in other ocassions: a lot of these voters operate on the premise that their “conservative vision” of good or at least reasonable times, is the default rest state of the universe. That their farm doing OK selling soybeans to Asia or their livestock being healthy is Just What Happens When You Live Right. This makes ot easy to convince them that if things are not looking good or they’re facing stressors it’s because of disruption caused by others who do NOT share that vision. So the fantasy they’re sold is that when we Put ”Them” In Their Place, things will naturally get better.

Nah, they are the biggest welfare queens around. They love suckling off the government’s teats, all the while blaming unwed, single big city moms. And in reality, those moms that do receive assistance in the form of food subsidies, also goes to those same farmers.

You might be amused to watch some of the videos/shorts on the youtube channel Farming While Beige.

It’s biting, dark and has a very low opinion of “landed” farmers who have generations of bailouts and governmental support. Not to mention the financial risks of embracing (unprepared) the farming life, homesteading, or other first time farmers, while being a first generation farmer himself.

I don’t always agree with his POV, but it’s a fun and often educational watch. Lots of debunking of various Health cranks on “food risks” while also smashing a lot of farm influencers and self-serving “poor farmers”.

“His specialty was alfalfa, and he made a good thing out of not growing any. The government paid him well for every bushel of alfalfa he did not grow. The more alfalfa he did not grow, the more money the government gave him, and he spent every penny he didn’t earn on new land to increase the amount of alfalfa he did not produce. Major Major’s father worked without rest at not growing alfalfa. On long winter evenings he remained indoors and did not mend harness, and he sprang out of bed at the crack of noon every day just to make certain that the chores would not be done. He invested in land wisely and soon was not growing more alfalfa than any other man in the county. Neighbours sought him out for advice on all subjects, for he had made much money and was therefore wise. “As ye sow, so shall ye reap,” he counselled one and all, and everyone said “Amen.”

Joseph Heller, Catch-22

Great quote. Thank you.

The old saying “Farm the land or farm the government” is an old saying that stays current for a reason.

Sin Eater? Road kill collecter? Contaminated medical products disposer? He looks like he’d do all that and more for the fun anyway.

Ah yes that last one is a connection a lot of them do fail to make. SNAP is an agricultural market subsidy, that’s why it’s in in the Ag Bill, not in the HHS Bill.

But the first part also reflects another part of conservative populist philosophy, the notion that there are some occupations or ways of living that inherently deserve support because of being morally worthier, that easily turns into “if the money and attention were not going to what helps Those People, there would be no need to cut what helps ME.”

My parents learned about this program after my maternal grandfather passed away and left several parcels of farmland. For many years Mom and Dad proudly farmed no corn and no tobacco.

“I never thought the leopard would eat MY face” says ranking member of the Leopards Eating Faces Party. How are these people so stupid?

Very socially responsible. It’s been scientifically proven that filling cigarettes with no tobacco instead of regular tobacco is associated with large reductions in lung cancer rates.
