Yeah, it’s annoying. I rather go back to the ten gift articles per month, rather than unlimited but the readers have to have a free account.
Yeah, that’s not “free” - they’ll sell your email to data brokers and anything else they can find out about you. Everyone seems to be doing this nowadays.
That’s why I have a yahoo account to use when some site wants my email address. Duh. You don’t have to use your primary email account in these situations.

Well it looks like he was right about that, at least as far as his own situation was concerned.
Farmers are angry at Trump for putting them in a big financial squeeze.
Counties in the rural “corn belt” went for Trump by an overwhelming margin in the last election (78%). But that’s changing.
Guess those voters will have to be reminded about how MAGA is protecting them from Democratic Communists, transgenders infiltrating girls’ sports, and similar threats that are way more important than farm foreclosures and bankruptcies.
First past the post. That’s the “problem” (it is or isn’t depending on your POV) - much like it doesn’t much matter if Democrats rack up big vote margins in CA, it doesn’t matter if Republicans barely squeak by in Iowa. It’s why I don’t get particularly encouraged or worked up by that sort of reporting. It’s interesting and will be nice if it leads to something in a purple state/area. But winning by 1% is the same as winning by 15%. And if at the end of the day…
… that works just enough, they’ll squeak through even if some disgusted farmers (which are a pretty small part of the electorate overall) abstain.

While a lot of states with big rural/farmer populations are pretty red, not all of them are. Two key “purple states” are among the top ag producers: Wisconsin is ranked #9 among the states for agricultural sales, and Michigan is ranked #19 (source). If farmers are pissed off enough that some might not vote GOP, it won’t make much of a difference in Iowa, but it might help tip the scales in Wisconsin and Michigan.
Not only that, but our government is (for now) more than one man. Flip a few of those red distrcits or at least flip them to R but with a spine (if any are left), and that still makes a difference.
People act like it’s just the one office that matters, and that’s part of the attitude that’s gotten us to this point. If more people actually cared about downballot races, some of those checks and balances might have actually been used by now.
Of course, some farmers retain their faith in Trump, no matter what it’s costing them.

On the one hand, there’s the ruination of a business your family has run for generations and financial hardship for years to come.
On the other hand, there’s admitting, if only to yourself, that maybe you were taken for a fool by an incompetent grifter for at least a decade, which doesn’t include the other associated grifters who were doing similar things since at least Reagan, if not longer.

Republicans love to take tax dollars and hand them to farmers. When worse comes to worse for farmers, Uncle Sam comes by with his big bag of money.
