What this demonstrates clearly is the idea that everyone is on The List. The List of people to be persecuted. We each just vary on how far up or down the list we are.
Even frothing RW-ery won’t save you if you piss off somebody from high enough up in the Party. The Fascist Party.
I just hope he was for real “deported” and not just given some sweetheart deal like voluntary departure. If he was actually deported, depending on how long he overstayed his visa, he might not be back for some time. A decade at least.
Of course he doesn’t have to be in the USA to be an RW agitator aimed at the USA. After all, a half-million Russian bots aren’t in the USA either. But they’re sure aimed at us, spewing hate & stupid 24/7/365.
That was because Obama seemed to care about separation of powers. He could have just ignored Congress similar to Trump, but the norms of US governance were mostly still holding (or at least eroding slowly).
I don’t think this is accurate - Trump doesn’t ignore Congress, he just gets a free pass from it because the R’s have a majority and have chosen to be supine.
If Trump faced a D controlled Congress, it would be blocking him at every turn - passing legislation to close the loopholes he is using, passing specific legislation countermanding his directives, running a permanent inquisition into his corrupt family so hard they would all be spending their days fending off criminal proceedings etc.
Do you really think that? I know they wouldn’t just crawl under their desks and hide, but let’s face it, Democrats can’t seem to get together and agree on how to actually DO anything. I think while they were busy debating each other, trump would just ignore them and go ahead with whatever he planned to do anyway. Kind of like he does with the Republicans.
I think it has been easy to get a particular impression because occasions when the Dems have had full control of both houses have been rare - and consequently we have got used to thinking of them as dithering and ineffective. I think if they had full control right now they would be using that control to the max.
Because they can’t do anything. Your country democratically elected R’s to control of Congress and rejected the D’s so that they have no control. What should they do? Be particular. They can stand on the sidelines and snipe (which they do). But they can’t pass legisation. They can’t set up or control committees. They can’t set up a permanent inquisition in the the Trumps (like the R’s did with the Clintons nominally over Whitewater). They can’t do anything.
Piers Morgan is “weird” in that way too, having enthusiastically praised Trump for cutting back illegal immigration, while opposing some aspects of border control like enabling ICE’s behavior.
Morgan has a lot of views on American affairs, including the belief that American beer is “too cold”, a weird and objectionable belief that might qualify him for deportation.*
*there was a petition drive once to deport Piers Morgan for supporting gun control, but nothing came of it.
Anyone who feels that way should do everything they possibly can to elect more progressive Dems to push the Establishment Dems out. There’s already been a lot of movement in that direction in this year’s primaries, but it’s essential that there be a huge blue wave in November to prove that the majority of the country is opposed to Trump.
In no conceivable universe do the dems get the veto-proof supermajorities needed to do either of those things in these coming midterms. Not going to happen.
The best we get is a couple more impeachments followed by a couple more acquittals.
I would of course be ecstatic to wake up the morning after and find I am wrong.
Yes, exactly. This is an example of the slant the billionaire-controlled media have implanted so deeply into our politics that even many opposed to the right-wing have internalized it. Democrats want to do stuff which requires control of Congress, the White House, and the acceptance of the Supreme Court. So when the Democrats fail to accomplish something, the media criticize them for trying. And people hear it so much, they forget (or never knew) what it would actually take.
Anyone saying “Democrats can’t get stuff done” are implicitly parroting the media that does not want stuff to get done.
