Kinda makes me happy the major corn crop in my area is popcorn. Anyhow, long term reducing HFCS in our diet would be a good thing, which would necessitate farmers moving to something else. It’s just that I expect this sort of ham-fisted approach to result in as many problems as it solves.
It’s not going to happen. As a last-minute MAGA acolyte, I doubt that RFKj has that much pull that he could get Trump to turn against people with money. It’s not ideological; I’m sure they’ll be plenty of regulation in a way that totally betrays everything that the GOP has been saying for years, it’s just they won’t go against big business. It will be like when Trump briefly talked about restrictions on guns.
Well reducing sugar would be beneficial, I’m not sure if you’re hinting that HFCS is worse than other sugars?
Actually, since ancient times, when an olive mill macerates the olives prior to pressing, the pits are crushed too so even olive oil has some seed-oil in it.
More and more Trump voters are starting to wake up to the fact that those campaign promises he made aren’t going to help anyone. A new report says that some of these voters are now starting to panic over the proposed cuts to education, and this includes a number of teachers who voted for Trump who are now afraid of losing their jobs. Again, Trump was very open about the cuts he was going to make - one of the few times he was actually honest - so these voters were given ample warning. Farron Cousins explains what’s happening.
IMO as long as HFCS is not only vastly cheaper than white sugar but is also vastly cheaper than most other ingredients except water, it’s going to be over-used in every product it goes into. If the HFCS price doubled and was expected to stay that way into the far future, a LOT of HFCS-containing products would be reformulated to contain less HFCS. And probably be less sweet as a result of not replacing the now-expensive HFCS with has-always-been-expensive cane or beet sugar.
