Fortunately for my (alleged) sanity his person is the only MAGAt who shows up on my FB feed. He’s involved in an organization I belong to, which is the only reason I haven’t unfriended him.
The rest of my friends and family are intelligent people, and I see a lot of anti-Trump and anti-Musk posts.
Wow. We must know the same person because that’s an exact quote from someone on another forum I frequent. Who seemed genuinely puzzled at the pushback from the forum because why wouldn’t everyone automatically agree with him? I’ll just note that that particular forum is far more conservative/right-wing/Christian than this one. I guess he thought he’d get automatic buy-in and agreement.
If this was a just world these asshats would get their comeuppance without the rest of us suffering. But we don’t live in that world.
So I’ve discovered something that really pisses the Trumpers off:
In 2024, Biden was deporting an average of 57,000 / month. Trump, in his first month, is way behind that number. That’s why initially they were giving daily updates, and have now stopped.
To be fair, they’re running out of school buses filled with children.

with the heaviest heart we have decided that we cannot travel to Atlanta this year. The reason is as simple as omnipresent: the new Trump administration and their new world order. Trump/Vance/Musk are tearing down everything what has been build up since ww2. They rewrite history and turn around the victim-aggressor role denying that Ukraine has been invaded by Putin with 150.000 soldiers, they call Ukraine’s president a dictator who doesn’t uphold election even though they know that elections are forbidden in Ukraine during war by their constitution, they send Vance over here telling us to start collaborating with the AfD Nazi party here in Germany, they spit on the truth and think freedom of speech means license to lie and to insult. Obviously they are about to destabilize the western world order so they can rewrite it to their needs, to make even more money.
We are deeply worried about this and simply do not feel safe and welcome anymore in your country. Of course we know that only 50% of the voters voted for Trump and that 50% didn’t vote at all. We feel extremely sorry for those of you who think the same, but at this point we can’t foresee what will happen in the next months. Maybe things will calm down and your admin will somehow get back to their senses. Or will they proclaim the American-Russian federation? All is possible and this scares the hell out of us.
We hope to return to Atlanta some other time in a better world like now. I hope you can understand and accept our decision.

If you have a WaPo subscription, “She hoped Trump’s victory would change her life, but not like this” is a story on today’s front page. It’s a long, long story, but here’s the gist. A young woman, living in some God-awful Michigan town, was employed with the US Forest Service. She was fired by DOGE. So she lost her job and her health insurance. She voted for Trump because she wanted to be a mother and Trump had promised that IVF would be free if he were elected. To her dismay, she discovered that he’d LIED! So thanks to her vote, she lost her job, her health insurance, and the only way she was likely to be able to have a child.
Oh the humanity!
But get this: She said she stood in the voting booth for 15 minutes deciding who to vote for. 15 minutes!
I’m a kindhearted person. Sometimes too kindhearted. I take no pleasure in it, but I find it hard to muster any sympathy for someone so willfully ignorant.
I suppose the bright side of this story is that these people could just as easily vote for a democrat for no good reason.
But if 15 minutes of contemplation isn’t enough to be certain that Trump is a disaster, then I don’t know what to say
If somebody voted for Trump as far as I’m concerned they’ll never deserve sympathy for anything, ever again. They effectively decided to declare war on humanity, and I’m not all that concerned as to why.
I’d almost be willing to cut a little slack for someone who voted for Trump but now truly regrets it and all that Trump stands for. Sadly, I haven’t seen any evidence that such a person exists.
What I’ve seen is people who are sad/mad because they are affected, but when asked about their overall beliefs they’ll still say that Trump is their god/king and they’d vote for him again. They don’t give a shit that other people are affected.
To them I give a hearty “fuck you” and hope you get all the badness that you deserve.
Given that he was already a disastrously bad President once, and made a point of how flaunting how awful he is I’m extremely skeptical of that as well.
I think that most so-called low information voters are just lying because they don’t want to admit they want fascism, and the rest are so detached from reality that they have no idea that Trump’s behavior screwed them over and never will. People don’t learn from their mistakes if they are so oblivious that they never recognize they made a mistake at all.
For a lot of MAGA, Trump and the entire movement is a part of their core identity. While I voted Republican until 2016, being a Republican wasn’t a part of my core identity, so it wasn’t that difficult for me to see that Trump would make for a poor president. Though I certainly didn’t realize to what depths the man could sink to. Voting for Hillary didn’t make me a pariah among my friends or violate any core beliefs I had about myself.
Doesn’t that kind of inherently presuppose that the 15 minutes in the booth represents all the time she ever spent thinking about who to vote for in 2024?
Meaning: she could easily have grappled with this question for weeks or months :shudder:

Let’s see, six bankruptcies, cheated on all wives, denied Covid being a problem, owes millions for a rape charge because he can’t shut his mouth…
That only took about 15 seconds to think of. But, hey, free IVF?? Sure thing. He’s qualified. 
So obviously a lie too.
A lot of MAGA types are going to be losing face in the coming months, unless they try to save face by doing an about-face, like this mayor.
