Odesio has answered it adequately but in true SD fashion of ask a question get handed a firehose, here is the RationalWiki article.
The coining of the term is attributed to professor Antony Flew,[3] who gave an example of a Scotsman who, in his 1975 book Thinking About Thinking, wrote;[4]
“Imagine Hamish McDonald, a Scotsman, sitting down with his Glasgow Morning Herald and seeing an article about how the “Brighton Sex Maniac Strikes Again”. Hamish is shocked and declares that “No Scotsman would do such a thing”. The next day he sits down to read his Glasgow Morning Herald again; and, this time, finds an article about an Aberdeen man whose brutal actions make the Brighton sex maniac seem almost gentlemanly. This fact shows that Hamish was wrong in his opinion, but is he going to admit this? Not likely. This time he says: “No true Scotsman would do such a thing”.
This is how the town halls during Trump’s campaign worked. They were rallies for his supporters rather than a place for people to ask difficult questions.
That would be haggis, as opposed to a bowl of porridge. Speaking of which, I need to thaw and cook the haggis I have. Because I like haggis. (I do like most internal organs.)
There is a far simpler explanation. Spartz is just following the highly successful Trump playbook - as soon as someone makes a negative claim about you and yours, make the same claim about your detractors regardless of how ridiculous it may be to do so. Then keep hammering the point till your doublespeak renders the term meaningless.
If you are propagating fake news, call all real news “fake news”. If you are a crook, call Joe Biden “Crooked Joe”. If you aspire to dictatorship, call the democratically elected Obama a dictator.
It seems to work quite well.
Shame on you. One must always have a copy of Catch-22 to hand. It is the handbook to life.
Totally, utterly off topic, but vegan haggis is available at Waitrose in the UK. I only know this because I worked for Waitrose, and a vegan colleague (supringly enough!) told me he was vegan. He said it was “fairly good” but would not buy it again.
Now back to your regular awful, offal-filled leopards eating awful, offal-filled faces.
Roger has shown no ability to handle the heat. That said, there is an argument to be made that town hall attendance should be for locals, and even in Kansas, a 4 hour drive is not local.
Of course, if the coward would meet his constituents in the populous parts of the state people wouldn’t have to track him down.
Correct on all points. IIRC, Spineless Roger hasn’t held a town hall in months. And this one was not extensively publicized by the Senator; most everybody (including me) learned of it via social media, specifically Facebook.
“Troublemakers”, of course, is defined as anyone who has the audacity to question the Party Line, or dare to ask why their elected representatives are not doing their jobs.
I would also ask for proof that these “troublemakers” are actually being paid and by whom.
