I had heard the same joke about Adolf Hitler consulting a fortuneteller to find out the date of his death and being told that it would be on a Jewish holiday. “Which one?” he demanded to know, and was told that any day he died would be a Jewish holiday.
I can’t feel bad for them (bolding mine):
Critics of actions by president Donald Trump shouted down Republican Sen. Roger Marshall at a town hall meeting in rural Kansas Saturday, causing the senator to end the meeting and leave as people shouted, booed and said “you’re not done.”
President Donald Trump won the rural northwest Kansas county of Logan with 85% of the vote. But opponents of the president’s recent actions and concerned Kansans from as far as Overland Park trekked to the small town of Oakley to voice their anger.
The room was only meant to seat 20 people. There was double in attendance at the small hospital cafeteria.
I feel bad for 6 of them. My reaction to 34 of them… hahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaa!!!
Many of the brave republicans, believers in free speech that they are, have stopped having town halls, or put in rules that attendees must be vetted.
And Vance recently moved hotels to a secret location to avoid pro-Ukraine protestors
Couchfucker is going on vacation after 40 days “on the " job”? Sigh, nah cure.
While I suppose it’s possible to have a world view where you disagree with some of Obama or Biden’s policies, it is not possible to honestly believe they were dictators. Like “woke,” I think the word “dictator” has become “someone I disagree with on some issue.”
I watched an amateur video of the event. It appeared to me that there were far more than 40 people in attendance, as there were a lot of folks standing, both inside and outside the room in the hallway.
Judging from what I’ve read online, many of the attendees drove 3 or 4 hours from places like Wichita and Kansas City to attend the town hall. And I will venture a guess that most of those who drove that distance did not vote for Trump. Or Marshall.
Marshall undoubtedly thought that if he held a town hall in a sparsely-populated area of the state, he would be safe. He was not prepared for the onslaught.
His Chief of Staff, Brent Robertson, posted this on X:
“Democrat operatives who couldn’t place Oakley, Kansas on a map before today sabotaged a local town hall — even still, Senator Marshall stayed and answered every question that was asked for 45 minutes,” said Robertson. “Real Kansans overwhelmingly support President Trump’s DOGE initiative, shrinking the size of the federal government, and firing career bureaucrats. Local Oakley citizens had no clue who these people were. Senator Marshall is to be commended for staying as long as he did.”
Doubtful if Marshall will hold another town hall anytime soon.
So, true Kansans are like a true Scotsman. Got it.
Fucker doesn’t seem to realize as a senator Marshall represents the whole state, not just the red parts.
Apparently Republicans are taking steps to vet attendees to townhalls. i.e. They’re going to make sure nobody in the crowd has any tough questions to ask.
This went over my farm-raised brain. Can you explain, please?
Oh, but he got a majority of the vote (as did Trump), so that’s who he speaks to, and nothing else.
The no true Scotsman is fallacy by which a person changes a prior claim in response to a counter example.
Patton: All Americans love to fight.
George from Utah: I don’t like to fight.
Patton: All real Americans love to fight.
The Republicans are arguing that it wasn’t “real” Kansans who were complaining.
If they can’t find Oakley on a map, how did they get there, Bart? How did they get there?
So the only people who will be allowed to attend townhalls are those who don’t think there are any issues that need to be addressed. Doesn’t that sort of defeat the purpose?
Not if the purpose is for the elected official to receive praise and adulation.
Spartz (my congressional representative, more’s the pity) appeared on Matt Gaetz’s show on OANN yesterday, on which she said that if Zelenskii doesn’t like the US terms, he “can go to hell.” She has evidently decided to side with Trump rather than with her own native country.
Man, did that go downhill in a hurry.
Marshall is a fucking US Senator. He does not represent a district in Kansas, he represents all of Kansas. If Kansans drove across the state to confront him, that is very much not “sabotage”. Every person in Kansas is well within their rights to speak to him, no matter where he chooses to hold a town hall. If he cannot handle the heat, he should find a job he can handle.
He hasn’t figured that out yet. He kowtows to the MAGAts, because that’s who elected him in 2020.
There’s a movement to unseat him in 2026, but the Kansas Democratic party is extremely weak outside of the Kansas City area.
Our current Governor, Laura Kelly, could probably defeat him (she’s been elected twice), but she’ll be 76 next year. Other than her, no Kansas Dem has statewide name recognition.
I don’t have a copy of Catch-22 to hand, but I recall that after several unsettling questions were asked during q-and-a sessions a rule was introduced that the only people who were allowed to ask questions were those who never asked questions. At some point thereafter the q-and-a sessions were cancelled because nobody asked questions.
I wonder if Joseph Heller used a crystal ball or a Ouija board.
Good explanation, thanks.
