Survivor 11/25

Yes it was clear from the beginning that he was gay, mainly by gaydar, but also in one of his profiles Rafe states that one of his dislikes are vaginas.

But to me the important message that he sent was that he was gay and Mormom. Not gay and ex-Mormom. I would think many LDSers would be appalled and maybe shocked and ashamed by his public statement, but I am not LDS and cannot properly comment on this. Can any LDS people former or current shed some light on this statement for us?

Mormon? Well, that explains the perfect, Osmond-like teeth.

Not exactly earth-shaking news that he’s gay, though.

I’d be surprised if he’s a practicing Mormon. He probably just means he was raised Mormon.

I really liked this episode, even though Lydia just slid into loserville. Maybe the stress of being out there is something I don’t appreciate, but how hard is it to just STFU??? I’m liking Cindy more and more each episode.

I thought it was the Queen Boy, you know… Brian was it? who announced at the git go his being gay. But, he played poorly. “This is the outwit part of the game.” Ha!

It seemed pretty evident Rafe was, but I don’t remember any specific word from him on the subject til now. If someone can say for sure, tho that he did early on, I’m happy for that too.

Hey, there’s families that can’t get together one day for Thanksgiving without having domestic-violence-level fights. These people have all been in each other’s faces for a month now.

Did you see Survivor Amazon? They all seemed to be getting along really well towards the end; the final four or so would spend their entire day sitting up on hilltops looking at the view… miles from the nearest survivor…

I thought someone here said Rafe had a girlfriend about 6 shows ago? I believed the someone here, not my gaydar. I guess if it’s on the internet, *by *a Doper it must be true??

Best part of the show…when Gary was talking about Steph, and said “Maybe they can all get her autograph after the show.” Bobby Jon and Jamie sure liked it, as did I. I don’t think Steph did.

I was pretty much rooting for Gary because I just always want to see a tribe scramble somehow, not weekly Pagoning. But I think if he did weasel his way into a position of power I’d have liked to see him dumped.

Gary’s biggest undoing (is that the right word?) was that he’s emotionally cold, didn’t seem to have the ability to bond with the others. He feigns that he does (e.g. Come’ere, Judd, you big knucklehead, gimme a hug!), but it’s just so transparent. This episode really showed that nicely. I wonder if that was his undoing as an NFL Quarterback, that his players just didn’t feel that necessary something to want to go to war for him (as opposed to somebody like Brett Favre).

And so now it’s Danni, whom I really like a lot, but if it’s just now she’s going to make her run to get in with the “in” crowd, well, too late, barring a miracle. I thought that maybe with her and Steph bonding at the resort last week, she’d work that angle. But no, she’s whacks her pot right out of the gate in the RC.

Can Danni convince Rafe and Cindy that if they jump alliances it strengthens their chances significantly because she and Lydia are much less likely to win any individual immunities? Probably not.

I really want to see the faces of Judd and Stephenie getting voted off, but there’s a real likelihood it won’t happen, certainly not before the Final Four.

He is Mormon and proud of it:

So what if he is gay and Mormon? He simply disagrees with a part of the Church doctrine. I disagree with America but I am still an American by choice.

For the most part I think most Mormons could care less. Everybody is entitled to live their own lives. The church simply lays down a path and asks its members to follow it. In the end members are encourage to make their own choices. There may be “spiritual” things he isn’t entitled to but he certainly isn’t outcast. Being homosexual on its own isn’t enough to get kicked out of the church or even punished. Sexual activity will result in consequences however the Prophet has made it clear the line is the same for homosexuals and heterosexuals. There is no church sactioned persecution or de-gaying activity he must partake in.

Therefore, no “appalled”, “shocked”, “ashamed” or collective gasps. Good for him being able to stick to his personal and religious beliefs. As long as he doesn’t force his opinion on others and understands the church’s viewpoint then things will work out. Mormons, for the most part, are a pretty tolerant bunch of people so I am sure he home ward is rootin for him.

So I say: Go Rafe!

BTW, please, please, this isn’t a debate, merely my opinion. There are plenty of examples contrary to what I have stated. But, we also have to acknowledge that not everyone follows the rules exactly. People make mistakes. If you want to debate this post please open a new thread in debates and invite me to join you there.

Two things hapened this episode that could throw this right into Danni’s hands. One, Gary painted a target on Stephanie’s chest and second, Lydia made herself an outcast. Assuming Lydia goes next week, Danni is in perfect position to split the alliance (this is the problem with a four person alliance).

After narrowing things to five people, Danni goes to Rafe and Cindy and peels them off by pointing out how dangerous it would be to go into the final days with Spephanie - she is tough in challenges and there is a lot of Steph-love on the jury. Judd has been in Stephanie’s corner all along and is too stubborn to change.

I think this could easily happen and it shouldn’t be too tough for Stephanie to pull off.

Whoa jsmith, I thought it was a good thing too. No debate here, just wanted to get an opinion on what some LDS people thought and you gave it. My experiences with Mormons on homosexuality have been different than your opinion, but it’s all cool.

But for the record, I still hate Stephanie! :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you mean, shouldn’t be too tough for Danni to pull off.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Steph & co. are dumb enough to fall for that. They’ll dump Danni first, unless she wins immunity. Lydia isn’t savvy enough to pull off any power plays, so it’s clear sailing to final four.

Well, those Mormons aren’t representative of the group as a whole. Some Mormons, as well and many non-Mormons, are extreme homophobes. Anyway, the debate part wasn’t targeted at you, just others who love to jump in with their criticisms. Mormons and homosexuality are very touchy subjects on this board.

Me too! I hope she goes next.

I think Judd is disliked enough that he isn’t a threat.

Gary I liked because he wasn’t emotional. Not so good with the people skill though.

Lydia, now I am starting to feel bad for her. She has to suffer Steph’s wrath, this isn’t personal, this is personal backtalk. Can’t cross Steph, she is the camp leader whether she wants to admit it or no.

Am I the only person who would have been “guessing” that the Mayans wrote their messages on origami and used bulldozers to build their temples? Hell, I’d have guessed that Finland bordered Guatemala if that had been a choice. You just can’t win those “pick your opponent” challenges - no matter what you do, you make enemies.

I wasn’t surprised to see Gary go - having already dodged the bullet twice, it was just a matter of time. Basically, I see him as being in the same situation Stephenie was in last season; a really good player who got stuck in the wrong alliance.

Cindy, Judd, Rafe, and Stephenie are all playing the smart game - they’re all in a good position and know it. I don’t think things will change next week - nobody has a reason to defect while Lydia or Danni gets voted out. But the episode after that will be interesting. If the alliance stuck together, they’ll go into the final four but one of them has to be the last person to get voted out. So once they get down to five, there’s a strong incentive to make a deal with the outsider and form a new final three.

Right. Therefore make enemies of the unstable and inconsequential. Bust the pots of someone psychotic, like Judd. Or someone harmless, like Cindy.

Good riddance, Gary. I wonder how much time he’ll have to take explaining who he really is. Wow, you were a third string quarterback 500 years ago? Maybe you’re problem with Steph is that you’re jealous no one wants YOUR autograph. Hey, you played a pretty good game and got further than most people would’ve in your position… but I’m just tired of the whole “if they only who knew I was” garbage.

And Danni? There’s something that bothers me about that “cowboy hat” you wear all the time. To me it says: High Maintenance. You’re gone next week if you don’t win immunity. ANd Lydia will be right behind you.

I think Steph/Judd/Cindy/Rafe are tight as a drum. The questions is, who will get picked off. I"m guessing it’ll be Steph since no one will want to go to the end with her. Judd is a block-head (did he answer any questions right in the IC???), but he’s the guy you want to have with you when the jury votes.

If only they knew who Gary was, his ass would have been voted off long ago. People perceive professional athletes to be rich as Croesus - they’d think he certainly didn’t need the money.

Yeah, and that’s something that makes no sense to me. Who cares whether someone “needs the money” or not. This is SURVIVOR, not QUEEN FOR A DAY. You vote for whoever played the best game.

Now, Steph and Bobby-Jon had the distinction of getting a second chance, and I can see where that would raise some hackles. They already lost once, so giving them a second chance is just pandering to the audience.

As was giving Rufus a million. This is TV. The producers will change up the rules as they see fit if it brings more viewers and ad revenue.

As for the 3rd string QB, well, I never really liked Hogeboom as a Cowboy, but he was FIRST team. It just so happened that the Cowboys were a second rate NFL team while he was there. Tho not spectacular, he didn’t completely suck as an NFL QB. Still, what with the whole deal of not being America’s Favorite Team during that time, not being spectacular during the short time he did start, and it all being almost two decades ago when he was in the NFL, I’m still finding it somewhat odd that Barely Legal Skeletor was able to penetrate his bat disguise so easily. When she goes, I really want to see her answer the question of how the fuck she knew.

For what it’s worth, here are Gary’s stats. Seems like he played in every game in '84 & 85 for Dallas, and missed 2 with Phoenix his last year. Had one year where he had more td’s than interceptions.

Yeah. I also know that he didn’t play 500 years ago. I thought that would make it obvious that I was exagerating for effect.
