Did anyone else thank their god that they weren’t married to that ball-buster Helen, after watching her “encourage” her husband to eat varmints?
I’d also like to thank Brian’s wife for dressing appropriately for her Playboy audition.

If Brian supports Clay this time he will lose Ted. Ted is already suspisious of Brian and CLay to begin with. If he thinks Helen can get ride of Clay he will jump. Granny Jan seems to be more alligned with Helen-- so that would make a block of three.
Jan is about the work around camp- Clay is a lazy PITA.
Ergo- bye bye Clay.
Booted contestants go to a place known affectionately as Loser’s Lodge, where they basically goof off until the whole show is over. (Actually, there are two Loser’s Lodges–tehy keep teh pre-jury contestants separated from the jury members, to help maintain secrecy.) Interviews with past contestants indicate that it’s a pretty nice vacation. ISTR that a number of the S4 contestants did a lot of scuba diving (on one of the best places in the world for it–I’m thoroughly jealous) and some traveling and sightseeing in the region is also a staple of LL activities. One of the early boots this time (Shii Ann?) said they went over to mainland Thailand on what was apparently a memorable trip.
Clay is the most obvious boot for next week, but I wouldn’t count that as a certainty. Everything seems to hang on what Brian decides to do, since the others are all counting him among their votes. Should be an interesting shake-out.
Man - that was great! Especially when they took bites outta those huge roaches and the gunk all squirted out. That’s the Survivor I know and love!
Kudos to Brian’s wife for flat out refusing.
Wondered if granny buried any leftovers?
I’d say Bri does best to boot granny next week. Tho with H whooped, he could toss Ted. Depends on how strong he feels to win the final balance off. Would he rather beat Helen or Ted. Do doubt he’d beat Clay. I say they boot granny - H will go along. Then next week, Bri says, “H - this is as far as I could take you. The boys are forcing me to boot you.” Depending on how strong he feels, he could even gamble and vote for Clay, assuming Clay and Ted will bleat and vote for H.
H’s husband sized it up quickly. The best chance ANY of the others had, was to boot Bri yesterday. Next week will be their final chance. Tho I don’t see those 4 getting together on it.
My predictions for boots in order:
Granny
H
Ted
Brian beats Clay.
Predictions:
Clay
Granny
Ted (based on a WAG on immunity)
Brian & Helen.
Brian wins, Granny cries.
So let me get this straight… Helen is married to New Zealand (and LOTR) director Peter Jackson?
(Pic of Helen’s husband.)
Well, if someone I loved did NOT want to eat any of the bugs, I’d tell them:
“Do NOT eat it. If you love me, never mind. It isn’t worth the pain and I don’t want you to have any discomfort.”
I wouldn’t say:
"YOU EAT THAT THING! DO IT IF YOU LOVE ME, DAMMIT!!
Sheesh, folks, relax. If anybody would be entitled to be offended by Helen’s method of encouraging her husband, it would be her husband. He didn’t seem even a little perturbed by it, and it worked. Plus, Jake’s encouragement of his wife wasn’t a heck of a lot better, even if he said it in a softer voice.
I have to say, though, I would have thought Brian’s wife would have had plenty of practice at swallowing.
D & R
Brian seems to be in charge of this whole thing.
His wife dresses and behaved exactly like I expected after her striptease on the videos they sent. She has “ho” written all over her.
I would’ve told my wife to not do it either. Hell, you’ll see her in 8 days (at most) anyway.
Two observations:
After the first episode of the show, would anyone have guessed that emotional-wreck Granny would make it this far?
And I agree with Shayna that Brian gives off a seriously creepy vibe. Also, I get the impression he is not particularly attached to his Mrs. (Speaking of whom, I can’t believe no one’s mentioned the lingering close-up of her cleavage.)
Brian seems somewhat embarrassed by his wife. But he’s played the entire game with a poker face, so maybe we’re reading too much into it.
I think from the previews for next week, Brian may have already lost Ted. I have been hoping that would be the case. I had also hoped Ted would pair off with Helen especially when she snuffed Jan’s torch over his. It bothered me when Helen went to Brian over Ted, but I think Helen now knows there’s not much doing in that area since Brian didn’t seem very encouraging about booting Clay. Helen’s husband asking her why she didn’t just go after Brian I think was a good thing, and I have even more hope for Ted making it to the final two since at this point, Brian is viewed as more of a threat.
If I am reading the shot of Helen and Ted writing in the sand on the beach correctly in next week’s preview, Clay or Brian is gone and I am happy. If not, I want Jan to go crazy with the monkeys and bury the remaining survivors in her pet cemetary, winning the million.
said JP at the start of the IC. Pieces maybe.
I think a lot of the discussion about strategizing among the remaining survivors misses a point: ex-Sook Jai’s form a majority on the jury. There is no motivation for the CG’s that join to try and break up a 4SJ vs. 3CG split, and probably no way they could crack SJ’s unity.
So the votes of the next 3 people voted out are irrelevant.
It is not clear to me if you can give away immunity after you get it , but if you can, the winner of every IC from now on should give it to Clay, since I think he is particularly disliked by Jake, and there is no one the other 3 SJ’s dislike more, so in a vote of anybody vs Clay, that person will win!
Not so fast there, cichlidiot. Ted’s writing in the sand had “B-H-T” together, with the beginnings of “J” underneath those three. No “C,” but you can figure out where Ted think the C belongs. Whether it actually turns out that way, of course, is a different question.
djbdjb, why would you assume that the ex-Sook Jais will vote as a bloc? No Pagonged tribe has ever done so before on the final vote. Even the Gang of Four on S4, who were pretty darned tight, split their votes between Vecepia and Neleh.
I didn’t tape it, but it looked like Helen was shaking her head and then making a “C” in ASL. Maybe you caught something different? As far as Brian, I’m hoping it is significant that Helen is opening up to Ted this time. No way to tell until they air the episode though, Brian may be in on it. I believe that it was a “B-H-T” as well, but I can still hope Brian may go. If I had to bet on it I’d choose Clay as the next boot, though.
Hmm, giving this more thought, I hope Brian stays and keeps the heat off Ted as a stronger player. I just worry that Helen will turn on Ted because of the position she took in the Giardia fiasco. Listening to her earlier comment about Brian and his cars, I thought she might use that to justify his boot. “He doesn’t really need the money.” I know she said something different while canoeing with her husband, but there was still an outsider left to vote out at that point.
My impression is more that he’s trying to keep under the radar. I think he was uncomfortable when they showed his video mainly because it showed that he was well-off and didn’t need the money as much. I think his attitude toward his wife is along the same lines. He just doesn’t want people knowing too much about him, which helps him keep control.
Tiburon asked:
Well, minty already answered this pretty thoroughly. In fact, there was a leaked photo from Survivor 2 that gave away who was in Loser Lodge before all of them had gotten there. (I used to have an article on it from that timeframe, but it appears to have disappeared in our switch from one server/software to another.) But even with the photo, as I mentioned about spoilers above, still many people didn’t believe it because it’s so easy to fake a photo like that for web distribution!
The whole thing about Losers Lodge that’s ironic is that sometimes the contestants seem to forget about it. Occasionally (though not in this series) we have heard people talk about how they’re going to vote somebody out because that person misses their loved ones too much, or the like. Thing is, they still will be missing their loved ones, just in a different place!
I am not 100% sure, but I believe the crew is pretty well separated from the contestants – even those who have been voted out. Besides, I don’t think the crew has much “kick back” time out there.
Regarding the whole Brian/wife thing – remember that he wanted to keep his, um, movie career a secret. Yet his wife co-starred in some of those movies and might have blurted something out that he didn’t want them to know. I don’t think he’s embarrassed by her (how could he be – he was in those movies too!) – he’s just afraid she will give out too much info.
He’s selling cars now; is his wife still making movies?
Obviously, everyone knows about his movie career now, but he never told them when they were on the island, right?
No, he didn’t tell them when they were on the island, and I think that is the main thing he wanted to keep secret. After Ken was booted, he did an interview with TV Guide Online that indicated he knew about Brian’s movie career. You can figure out how. But he also said he respected Brian’s right to keep that part of his life away from the other castaways. Personally, if I were in his position and I knew I was going to be voted out, I’d have brought it up! Couldn’t hurt.
But I dunno if his wife is still making movies. For that matter, I’m not sure if he was still making movies. I mean, just because he sells cars for his day job doesn’t mean he can’t moonlight.
