I think the more Survivor savvy players got voted off pre jury. Both Stephanies, Brendon, Morgan, and Jacob probably would have been better than Angela, Chelsea, Jenna, Donathan and Libby.
I wonder if Angela’s vote for Wendell was entirely driven by bitterness over Domenick not taking her to the final three. She certainly had no chance of winning, but it probably cost her around $20k right?
The first five members of the jury all voted for Domenick. Chris was on Dom/Wendell’s tribe but was always an antagonist and got taken out at the merge - so he was never a friend of their’s, but a strategic opponent. Libby, Jenna and Michael were original Malolo and were early targets of D/W’s alliance, they never worked together. Desiree was an original Naviti but it seemed like she was on the bottom of the alliance, made her early attempt to switch but it didn’t work out. None of them were ever (strongly or at all) aligned with Dom/Wendell, so I’m thinking they saw them more in a strategic opponent way, and so they respected Dom’s strategy more than Wendell’s social game.
Whereas the last six (Chelsea, Kellyn, Sebastian, Donathan, Angela, Laurel) were all part of D/W’s core alliance, so they did have strong social connections to them and so would respect Wendell’s social game over Dom’s strategy.
On Dom’s bluff: I agree that Sea Bass had no call to be butthurt. But although it worked for Dom, the fact that it did was a real failure by the others to think rationally. If Dom’s fake idol was legit, why would he put on such a show before the vote? He’d just sit there quietly and then save himself that round and the next.
I hope to never see Laurel again. I liked her the first couple weeks but then she just became utterly useless and did nothing. She’s the definition of a weak and spineless player who is playing for 3rd.
Agreed. I wish they’d do away with fire making and just do immunity to the last 2 standing, I think it’s crazy they’ve been doing 3. Also, I’m sure some people loved it, but I didn’t like how it came down to Laurel’s vote. All of that said, my favorite 3 made it to the end. There was no way Laurel was going to win, but I liked her. I would’ve been happy with Dom or Wendell, it’s just the process that gets me.
I could see Dom or Don on a returnee show, but Michael would be far and away at the top of my list for most likely returnee. And after that I’d like to see someone like Stephanie Johnson (hope her not showing up to the reunion didn’t kill her chances) get a second shot.
Yeah, I think I said earlier that Michael will probably be back. I expected Jeff to make a big to-do about his age, and have him “shock” everyone with a big reveal at the reunion show. I guess the cat was already out of the bag.
As for Dom, he pissed too many people off, and you don’t win by pissing too many people off. That’s part of the game, and whoever does that did NOT play a good gam.
Don’t know. If it was show-related reasons you’d think there’d be some rumors by now (such as when Vytas didn’t return due to leaving Ponderosa early and posting on social media about it, which pissed off the producers). Apparently she said “personal reasons” but I wonder what personal reasons would have her turn down $10k to show up.
I think Laurel fully believed that her only path to the final three was with Dom and Wendell. It wasn’t. That was clearly the most obvious and easist path, and thus the only one she allowed herself to see. But she had to know deep down that there was no way she could beat either of them. Had she helped orchestrate a blindside of one or both of them, AND played a savvy enough social game to keep herself in it to the end, she might have gotten some votes and maybe even won the game.
In fact, if neither Dom nor Wendell had made the final, and it’s any combination of Laurel, Donathan, Angela, Sebastian, and Kellyn, who gets your vote? The answer is, whoever made the move to knock out the big dogs. Turns out that was none of them.
Domenick played his real and fake idols in the best way possible, but it really made no sense that the gambit worked as it did. Everybody had to be figuring that maybe one is a fake. If it turns out it was real, well, you’re screwed anyway. Might as well throw votes to Dom just in case. Stupid.
Anyhow, I’m really glad Wendell won. He was my favorite player from about a third of the way in. Some are saying that Dom played a better game and should have won. But remember that every minute of every day on the island is part of the game. Dom played a great strategic game but ruffled too many feathers along the way. Wendell played a very good stratigic game and got everybody to like him. Jurors can base their decisions on any criteria they choose; there are no wrong votes. Wendell totally deserved it, in my opinion. Having said that, I think Dom is a good guy, despite his brash demeanor. Had he won, I would not have been mad.
Michael said he was 23 during the game, but he revealed to Libby that he was 18 either the day or the day after he was voted out. Its on his Ponderosa video.
I’ll have to go to Wikipedia to confirm, but it feels like since they’ve had a Final 3, the 3rd place contestant gets an average of 0.5 votes. Why bother.
Even worse than that - five times the person in third has gotten one vote, and 16 times they’ve garnered zero votes. Production likely feels that having a final three still ends up with closer votes than a final two (would take a bit to run the math on that) so it’s still worth it.
Going back into a final two with the old system wouldn’t remove the 3rd person who doesn’t get votes from the final, but it would remove one of the people competing for votes depending on who won the immunity challenge. Making it a fire making challenge would be a little better, but there’d still be a large risk of it being a boring final tribal with a clear winner and a goat.
Angela might be the worst player to make it to the final 4. She’s worse then all of the other “do nothing” players that get dragged to the end because she actively worked against her own interest. She had multiple chances to make big moves and failed all of them.
Regarding the fire making challenge, I do like it in that it makes for a better final 3. It’s definitely better when the players know it’s going to happen vs. it being a twist. My issue is that it gives a big advantage to the person who makes fire. The jury has really stopped caring about challenge wins because they aren’t seeing them. They see someone walk in with the idol and they don’t know how hard it was to get it. They see the fire challenge though, which might be enough to sway a vote or two. Walking into the final tribal, I would rather be the one that got there by making fire than the one who won the immunity challenge.
