Survivor 44

Frannie and Danny are my two #1s, though I’m conflicted. I kind of wanted Danny to keep his idol so Frannie would be sent to Ponderosa with Matt so they could have some quality time together. Irrelevant now that they’re actually currently dating in real life, but still I have that impulse.

I like Yam Yam, but Carolyn rubs me the wrong way. Or, more likely, the ridiculously over-the-top fawning praise of Carolyn on the Survivor reddit rubs me the wrong way, which makes me dislike her.

As for everyone else, I’m fond of Carson and Kane. I don’t dislike anyone else; I just don’t know them because it feels like 90% of the edit has been all Carolyn and Yam Yam.

I didn’t realize she was popular. I thought she was going to be the most hated character this year due to her crazy personality. She is very fun, though, and I think very genuine. I was so prepared to dislike her, but she won me over.

Again, I don’t look at Survivor fan sites or the subreddit, totally just watch with my wife and read a bit here sometimes.

I am not a huge fan for Yam Yam, though I am not actively against him. I think he would be a lame winner, though. Other people have played better. I find him not massively annoying, but not very endearing.

Who are the remaining Tika?

Carson, Yam Yam, and Carolyn.

Carolyn winning would somehow be hilarious to me. This season opened with her being very wacky and funny in her interview; we even heard the producer talking to her trying to clarify the question.

I wondered when they showed her being so zany if she might win, but I think the votes would go to most anyone aside from her.

Same here. My wife and I initially did not like her at all. But she has grown on us. She’s smart enough to have made it this far but I don’t think she’s cut-throat enough to win.

I thought the plan and the blindside were excellent game play. I don’t think Danny gets enough credit for pulling it off. Sure, they should have split the vote but still…

While I’m glad Yam-Yam didn’t go with his first instinct to run and tell the Ratu alliance about the immunity idol plan (sometimes keeping your mouth shut and letting things play out is the right move), I don’t understand why he and Carson voted for Frannie. So many seasons we’ve seen people going along with a controlling alliance thinking “we’ll get them out later,” until it’s too late. Getting rid of Brandon should have been a no-brainer for all six of the non-Ratus.

For this reason, Yam-Yam and Carson have lost some of my rooting interests, and Carolyn has gained some.

I’m still on the fence about Danny. There’s definitely some snake in him, but he’s not totally villainous (yet). Of course, playing his idol for Frannie was certainly not altruistic; he’s smart enough to see more than one move ahead, which I like.

Frannie is just too nice. She might get taken to the end, but I can’t see her winning at this point.

Jamie seemed like a flaky basket case at first, but she’s settled down, and I suspect she may prove more formidable than she appears.

Heidi and Kane have still yet to make a strong impression on me one way or the other.

The only one I really don’t like is Lauren. I’m not totally sure why; she just rubs me the wrong way. She’s got kind of an unearned cockiness about her.

Plausible deniability They knew Danny’s plan but did you see how shocked Yam Yam looked? It was all an act.

Yep. The NASA guy. My fave.

I do like Danny however.

The editors love those two so much- they get half the screen time- in fact there are a couple players we were going “who is that”?

So I hope they both lose.

Yes, my wife and I saw a guy about last week and we said, “Wait, who is that?”

Nothing makes me scream at my at TV more than this. Worse still is when a strong, dangerous player hooks up with another average player and become a ‘power couple’, so everyone freaks out and says, ‘we gotta break that up’, and then vote out the weaker player. Happens EVERY SINGLE TIME. For the life of me I can’t understand why they don’t vote out the stronger player. But they rarely do.

If someone is a threat, vote them out and do it now!

Just got around to watching this episode. Very satisfying blindside.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out for Yam-Yam and Carson. I really like the idea of just sitting back and going with the majority, knowing that even if Danny makes the idol play it still doesn’t blow back on you. They didn’t really care whether it was Frannie or Brandon going home, and having an idol out is always a good thing. Sometimes doing nothing is the right play.

I will say that Danny broke my top two Survivor rules: Don’t talk about your idol and never play your idol for someone else (or at least not before Final 6 or so). And it worked! So what do I know…

It worked… for now. The biggest issue with the modern era is that the game has basically become “vote out whoever made the last big move and hope you’re the last one holding the bag”. Danny just put a huge target on his back to save an alliance of 3 in a tribe of 9.

On the other hand, it seems like he’s a pretty good idol hunter and a new one will be put back in play.

One thing that’s nice is there hasn’t been a lot of male misogyny/paranoia on display this season. There was a season a few back where it seemed some of the male players did nothing but talk among themselves about a ‘woman’s alliance’ and how they had to protect themselves – even though we were never shown any examples of woman in fact forming such an alliance or scheming to get out men purely because they are men, vs. getting out a particular man for whatever strategic/personal reason.

This group don’t seem to do that. Even though the last four people out, everyone since the merge, has been a man.

Or are the producers just not showing up that type of conversation any more, after catching some flack over the season where it was so rampant?

I don’t know, but this week the edit showed women specifically targeting “big guys.”

I really enjoyed the “let’s just have a lazy day” section of the episode prior to the challenge. One, because I feel like we rarely get to see that now with the shortened season. Two, because any pre-challenge strategizing almost always gives away who’s going to win the challenge.

TPTB should be a little more lenient with giving them Rice. I think watching 9 lethargic castaways is pretty boring. After they got rice, they had so much more energy.

Carson looked like one of the puppies on the ASPCA commercials when he walked into the challenge. I doubt he could have lasted 10 seconds in the challenge.

I can’t believe the edit devoted so much time to Jaime and her (fake) idol. She seemed so smug in confessionals about it, and now it doesn’t look there is going to be a payoff since the fake idol went to Ponderosa with Kane. I wonder when the first time Jamie realized that her idol was fake? when the show was being aired back in March?

The three fake idols had no effect on the game, All of them were voted out of the game without the players who found them, playing them.

Its looking like its going to be 3 TIKAS in the final four (Jam Jam, Carolyn and Carson). Franny or Danny should be voted out next. They look like the favorites to win any Immunity Challenge unless its a puzzle that Carson has practiced.

I saw hardly anything but YamYam and Carolyn.

Good for Carson for winning a competition! Didn’t think that would ever happen.

And too bad about Frannie.

Honestly - I fast-forwarded over the whole letters from home thing. I don’t go for the schmaltz.
