Jessie Camacho, one of the players on Survivor: Africa, did say pretty much that. In a pre-show promo, she said that as a Cuban from Miami, she’d have an advantage over the other players because the tropical climate wouldn’t bother her. Then when she got to Africa, she got knocked out by the heat and couldn’t stop puking so she was the second person voted out.
Are y’all talking about Brad or Yul?
Brad definately sent out a “HELLO! I’M GAAAY!!!” vibe. But he’s not Korean. IIRC he’s half Hawaiian and something else that’s not Korean.
Yul is Korean, but I didn’t see enough of him to get any kind of vibe.
Especially with the Pumpernickels. It’s like they were trying too hard to make sure we understood that they were an all black tribe. I was ready to change chanels if anyone mentioned fried chicken or watermelon.
At the risk of sounding racist, was anyone else expecting Yul to get off the boat and ask the other survivors if they had seen his wife Sun anywhere on the island?
Considering that nobody knows what the future alliances will be, it’d be insane for anybody to be making race jokes at this point. Three weeks from now, you’ll have the last two players from one tribe left, facing the members of another tribe deciding who to vote out that night, and one of them will say, “Hey, why don’t you tell these guys that same joke you told all of us back on the first night?”
Yes. Brad, not Yul. And you’re right, he isn’t ethnically Korean, at least judging by his name. Yul is a NorCal guy and is ethnically Korean, so maybe that was who the other folks were talking about, but I meant Brad.

I was talking about Yul, so now I’m confused 
, but that’s nothing new. Yul is the one who hardly said anything but who looks like Daniel Dae Kim, which is why I even know who he is at this point. Brad is part Hawaiian and part Filipino, and now he doesn’t have a headache but he does have a red dot on his forehead. I believe Brad works in fashion in some way, which is why I referred to him as a “Project Runway refugee” earlier. I lurve Brad a little, and I think Yul sure is nice-looking, so either way, I’m aiight.
I was talking about Yul. I will need some sort of actual admission from him to accept that he’s gay.
Brad, on the other hand, is clearly gay.
When I saw “gay”, I just assumed it was Brad you guys were talking about, but I didn’t know either of their names or what their ethnicities were so I just ignored that part. Sorry for the confusion. Yul does look like Jin-- even his last name is the same!

These all work for me. And can we also add “Jonathan-the-Chicken-Thief?” It’s not a nickname, really, but it’s true, and it’s certainly how I’m going to spend the entire season thinking about him.
Let’s not, OK? Please? That’s what another board does- gives everyone nicknames based upon what the re-capper sez. :rolleyes: We are the SDMB, we set trends- we don’t follow them.
Not that there’s anything wrong with an occasional “Jonathan-the-Chicken-Thief” or something, but here, we have 100 times the membership or something and *any *Member should be able to drop in and tell who we are talking about without a scorecard. So, if on the Epi 2 thread, you’ll need to re-explain every nickname. If you’re willing to do that, fine, but even so, it’s a bit…
So, if there are nicknames, they gotta be nicknames anyone can figure out. Using “Octopus Head (Jessica)” is fine of course, as the () makes it obvious- and we still get the little chuckle out of the nickname.
