Survivor: Exile Island Ep. 6 - "Salvation and Desertion"

Man. That was a harsh episode. Poor ol’ Dan. That really was a tight group of guys. I wish they could have made it to the final four.

But Taskforce:Dysfunctional keeps winning. I guess maybe at a challenge is the only place they have peace. The ratings are in disarray this week because it appears Casaya has the upper hand…but I don’t think any of them are winners.

And now, the less anticipated, highly derivative RICH RANKINGS! (Tribe and previous ranking in parenthesis)

FORGOT TO FILE A 1040- I guess you couldn’t outwit everyone!

Tina,Melinda,Misty,Ruth, Bobby- Finally, a man joins the group at loser lodge. And what a gentleman he is!

Dan- (Tom/LaMina)- A cruel twist in the game and a shocking inability to do a puzzle ousts one of the more likable players in the history of the game. But I liked that they gave him some upbeat music as he had his torch snuffed.

EATING BEEF JERKY- You’re still playing, but you’re praying for a tribe scramble!

Shane- (Merge/Casya)- Good timing. Trying to get out of an alliance right before the merge. Shane’s antics, and Casaya’s stupidity, may be the only thing that can save La Mina. If La Mina can pull numbers to oust Shane and then use Terry’s idol to break Casaya, then they have a shot at getting back on top.

WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT A MERGE?- Middle of the pack players, the lotta ya!

Danielle- (Jerky/Casaya)- Boy is this a dull cast.
Courtney- (Jerky/Casaya)- Courtney is like Jerri from Australia, but without a personality.
Nick- (Tom/La Mina)- If Casaya is afraid that Terry has the idol, Nick could be the first target.
Austin- (Rat/LaMina)- I have to admit. Austin is growing on me. He has that “Duuuuuude!” thing going, but he seems like a decent guy.

HEY! LOOK AT HIS MOHAWK-You might make the merge, but you’re grimacing from the jury row!

Bruce- (Jerky/Casaya)- Once the merge comes, Bruce goes from being one of the weakest players to being one of the more influential. He has no alliance, so he can be a number for La Mina. Plus, I think he’d get along better with them anyway.

LOOKING FOR A BIG TOM TO ENGLISH DICTIONARY- Big Tom has spent more combined days on the show than anyone. But he didn’t quite grab the brass ring.

Cirie- (Tom/Casaya)- Cirie has kind of snuck her way into the alliance of bufoons without committing herself. She has options. She could jump ship or play it out. Either way, she is a powerful swing vote.
Sally- (Mohawk/La Mina)- Same with Sally. Talk about luck. Getting sent to Exile Island was a blessing.

ARE YOU A RAT OR A SNAKE?- Reserved for a MAXIMUM of two players. You have to be in the driver’s seat for this spot.

Aras- (Merge/Casaya)- You gotta upgrade Aras based on simple numbers. He seems to be the best of a bad situation.
Terry- (Rat/La Mina)- As long as Terry has the idol, he is a threat. He may pull off a string of wins and then break out the idol when he falters.

Bruce reminds me in a very vague way of Napoleon Dynamite. I think it’s his know-it-all attitude and his karate displays.

I almost lost my eyes last night, they rolled so far back in my head when he was being Bruce Lee. I guess the amusing part of that was that none of the kids looked too interested.

I think Shane is certified batshit insane. The guy skeeves me out.

So we aren’t getting a new show for three weeks? :smack:

Shane seems to be one of those players who really, honestly, believes that something bad will happen to his son now that he’s sworn an oath on his life. Which makes it kind of odd that he’d swear the oath in the first place, you know?

Therefore, he’s another player who demonstrates that he has never actually watched the show before… “huh… people on this show aren’t going to just let me win… I might have to lie and break my word to do it…” This is news to Shane, apparently.

That seems unlikely to me…

I am amazed that Cirie was able to get through that episode without hopping up and down and squealing with glee that Shane is such a doof the likes of which this show has rarely seen.

Dan’s only problem with the puzzle was that he didn’t expect to be built to such tight tolerances, and I can’t really blame him for that. It looked like the pieces would just fall into place, but they didn’t. They probably cut them all so the fit well, and then painted them, which made them fit real snug.

I loved how the guys stood up when Dan went to get his torch. In all the TC’s I’ve seen where a tightly-knit alliance had to vote somebody off, I’ve never seen that respect before.

Sally must be a ninja, the way she dodged a bullet last night.

I think Aras should be really grateful to Shane for taking all the attention off of him for being such an arrogant, passive-aggressive unelected leader of their failing alliance.

I don’t understand why the NCAA tournament is bumping Survivor off the air. Every Spring season since Australia has just moved the show to Wednesday!

Does American Idol come on on Wednesday or something?

Not quite – there’s a show on Weds 3/15, they skip two weeks, then a show on the Thursday 4/6.

However, the description of the show on 3/15 led me to believe it was some sort of “recap” filler episode. But I’ve no positive proof of that.

Mm, I think it’s not quite that bad. Show next Wedensday. Nothing the week following that. Then, back to normal. But yes, the show next week looks like a clip show, presumably with some new footage of past events.

I think next week’s show is almost certainly a recap episode. If for no other reason, I can’t believe they’d show scenes from a future episode otherwise.

For example, both Shane and Terry were clearly shown in the scenes from the future episode, meaning they aren’t voted out in the next episode. CBS would never give away something like that if there was going to be a vote next week.

Agreed, big time. Who knew a yoga teacher could be such an immature prick?

Maybe the Medivac occurs when somebody punches Aras out (or maybe when Shane has an over-the-top nicotine fit).

Shane, Shane Shane…Goes for 14 days with no ciggies. How does he celebrate being Nicotene free? He has a cigarette! Wellcome back to Monkeyville Mr. Shane.
I thought he was finally getting over the worst of it. He Does seem to be getting that " 1000 yard, Charlie Manson-like stare". It Was a good move to put Sally on the island.

And, I like Cirie more and more as weeks go by. From being afraid of leaves to
kinda figuring out the lay-back and watch the implosion. She seems to be having fun for someone who seemed doomed early on.

I was late watching this episode (thanks TiVo!). I think it was one of the more entertaining episodes this season. Part of the charm was seeing the reaction the villagers had to the survivors.

*Smoking teen: “Oh god, here comes that label-maker guy again. He offered to toss my salad for a smoke. Let’s get him off camera and give him a beatdown.

Disinterested kid: “I used to think it would be kinda cool to be a blackbelt. USED to. Thanks for nothing, Mr. Bruce.”

Inquisitive preteen: “She’s a dancer and you can’t hula-hoop? What’s up with that? At least she doesn’t have a bra on, so it’s all good.”*

Something weird went on in minute 37. If I didn’t know better, I’d say there were a couple frames of an NC-17 crotch shot of Danielle. I’ll have to move it to disk and take a second look. Thanks TiVo!

Waverly’s post was more interesting than the episode!

I was wondering about that, but figured it wasn’t worth the beatdown I’d get from my wife if I rewinded to watch it again in slow-mo…

I paused the VHS tape for commercials. Is minute 37 with, or without commercials? Was it in a challenge?

Climbing out of the boat; they went over the side, and suddenly you could see all the way to the promised land…

She’s just jumping out of the boat after handing out treats to the kids, when she gives them a special treat. Minute 37 should be approx. the full runtime with commercials. My TiVo sets it’s time from the cable. Unfortunately, even at high resolution, the picture quality is not good enough for such… err… important image forensics. Someone with an HD capable TiVo will have figure out what is, or isn’t, there.
