Survivor Fiji: 5/13 (Finale and Reunion) SPOILERS

I agree it was a strategic error in the abstract, but I don’t think it was fatal. Even if Yau had never made the deal, the same people would have been voted out in the same order, it seems to me.

Also, I would argue that Dreamz breaking the agreement went well beyond the usual Survivor lies and misdirections – because Yau gave up something he’d won. It’s one thing to falsely tell a player he has your vote at tribal council or that his head isn’t on the chopping block. It’s quite another to take a guy’s truck as payment for honest behavior and then not deliver the honest behavior.

Third, Earl did nothing wrong in voting against Yau. At some point in every game, alliances have to break and partners have to vote against each other.

Finally, I love crazy people on the jury. They should choose the jurors based on who’s craziest, not who lasts longest in the game. The first guy voted out should get to stay if he’s loony enough to be entertaining.

Heh! Right: if it’s good enough for Los Angeles, it should be good enough for Survivor.

Great (mostly) lurking in these threads, all of you. See you in the Fall!

I can’t believe I’m typing this, but Rocky actually had an intelligent question, even if it was originally phrased in Rockese. Translated: What did you do to manipulate other players better than everyone else?

I thought Yau-man asked good questions. I can’t remember exactly what he asked Dreamz, but he asked Earl a simple question (why did he vote for him) and Earl gave the best answer (to win).

Yau Man asked Dreamz whether he intended to go back on his word when he made the deal or whether he decided to later. Dreamz, who’s never met a question he couldn’t avoid, yabbered a bunch of gibberish. Yau Man tried a couple more times, and then gave up.

But there is no reason to carry the game to the confessional. No one is playing against the producers. He kept telling the camera, sitting all by himself away from everyone, how important his integrity was to him and how he didn’t want to teach his son the wrong lessons. If he’d said that to Yau Man, okay it’s game. But saying it to you and me? It’s what my grandmother called “words that burn the mouth”.

To the few people who are saying that Dreamz isn’t doing anything different than anyone else breaking a deal on this show: NO ONE ELSE WHO BROKE A DEAL ALSO STOLE A TRUCK FROM THE PERSON THEY FUCKED OVER!!

And a terrible person.

I may be very naive, but I really thought the loooooong pause before Dreamz decided to keep it was just going to be manufactured drama because surely Dreamz wouldn’t be that much of an idiot scumbag as to keep it!

How wrong I was.

I wish Yau Man were the type of man to sue for his truck. The contract is plain, simple, and well documented. Unfortunately, he isn’t. And he probably won’t.

No, he probably won’t. Especially considering how nice he was during Tribal Council not to hound Dreamz about giving him the Immunity Necklace, even though it was well within his rights to do so.

Are you serious? First, he’d have to sue in Fijian court. Secondly, it’s a game where people are known to lie and Jeff explicitly told him the deal was not enforceable, which he acknowledged. No way could he win.

One big difference - Dreamz got a car out of it. I think in future Survivors they may have a system where deals made at Reward Challenges, Immunity Challenges, and Tribal Councils are binding.

Jeff isn’t a judge. He meant that there was no way for the producers to enforce it, and that’s what Yau Man acknowledged. Whether he’d have to sue in Fiji, I don’t know because I’m not a lawyer. In my opinion, American courts should settle disputes between Americans period. But hey, they never asked me.

He’s the moderator of the game and explains the rule of the game, which are that such deals are not enforceable. It was a game. It would be like you suing me over a poker game because I bluffed. Or someone on Survivor suing someone else because each promised not to vote for the other person but one person broke his promise (and thus “cheated” him out of the $1M). It’s exactly the same thing.

Color me stupid because I, like Yao-Man, trusted Dreamz to do the right thing. Yes, he got a big $60k truck which started depreciating the second he was handed the keys, but at what cost? I’m telling you, he could have had endorsement deals, he could have gone on a speaking circuit. Now he’s trashed his reputation and will be remembered as the man who went back on his word and then tried to pretend that that was his intention all along.

*Folks whose stock dropped at Final Tribal/Reunion:
*Dreamz - for reasons mentioned above
*(Michelle - did the stage lights frighten her or was she always that dumb?
*Alex - he’s no Perry Mason and he made himself look vindictive and rude
*Lisi - if Dreamz is so stupid, then why was he sitting there in the Final Three? I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt and believe that the “Eenie, meenie, miney, mo” thing wasn’t racist, but it does underscore how clueless she is. If I were Cassandra, I would have said, "I might have come unprepared for the physical challenges, but at least I’m not a quitter, you sanctimonious, bitter bitch. Okay, without the last part.

More later. I’ve got to run.

Holy crap, I’d forgotten that part – I just about gasped…“no, she wouldn’t…”. But she’s probably too young to realize the racist part; she undoubtedly heard it the first time as “catch a tiger by the toe.”

My mom, also. As soon as Earl dropped off, she started urging Yau to let go too. She wanted to be sure that Dreamz got the chance to be a stand-up guy for his son someday. Mom was both shocked and sad when Dreamz went back on his agreement.

So true.

I haven’t seen the reunion show yet (my husband and parents wanted to watch The Tudors instead), but I’ve got to say that Lisi is the biggest bitch Survivor has ever seen. I hope to never see a bigger, because she was just so nasty at the Tribal Council I hated to watch her. Anybody worse and I’ll have to turn the TV off. I literally felt dirty after listening to her. And that was before I watched her charming and classy video.

You’re probably right that Yau would have a difficult time winning the truck back in court (though I know nothing of legalities); but if Dreamz wanted to salvage any part of his self-respect, he could have at least said, “Sorry, Yau… I have to back out of our deal. Here’s your truck back.”

Good point. And I would just love to see Yau-man driving that truck, too.

Did anyone else notice that it was Boo who drove it over to the school? I guess Dreamz really didn’t have a license.

Was I the only one hoping that Yau Man would give Dreamz “his word” that he’d vote for him to win while giving his questions in the final tribal council? Just a nice little final insult.

I think the reason I loved Yau so much this season is because he’s NOT the kind of person who’d do that. The man doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. I’m sure he was disappointed at Dreamz’s decision, but I’d bet it never even occurred to him to get petty about it.

I’ll acknowledge that as much as I loved Yau, a jury full of folks just like him would be BOOOOOOOORING!
