Survivor: Game Changers Starts on Wednesday

The only reason I know is that I saw it on my DVR schedule. No promotion that I’ve seen but I watch very little network Prime Time.

I generally don’t like returnees, but all returnees is better than a few or half. I also like several of them (Cerie, Ozzy, Andrea, Troyzan). I wonder how it’ll fall out. I’ll bet Sandra and Ozzy are the first targets.

I can’t even remember who won last season but I can name most of these contestants by sight alone.

Should be fun.

Moving it for you.

Yup, I always look forward to the All-Star seasons. Lots of good returnees this time too.

I’m really interested to see how Tony does. I think he’s a huge threat and one of the smartest players the game has seen, so he’d be one of my first targets for that reason alone. If he manages to overcome that he’ll make it far.

I have heard of one twist that affects Tribal Council. If the 1st vote is a TIE, there is NO REVOTE. The rest of the tribe goes to quorum to decide who is voted out. If it is not unanimous, then they go to rocks.

That puts another layer on trying to smoke out a HII.

Looking forward to the returnees. Two hour premiere Wednesday night. With the season started in March rather than February, there has to be some several episodes with Double Boots if they are going to finish in Mid May like they normally do.

3/8 episode:

Not too surprised by the first vote (and not too upset either). I was worried about Michaela’s overreaction to being the red herring target but thankfully she made it through. I wonder if she didn’t have enough time after last season to think about how she needs to rework her game, though.

Second vote was a lot more interesting… not surprising (as I said, he’d either be one of the first out, or make it to the end). But I’m sad to see him out so quick. The guy annoyed me but he sure was entertaining.

I really like this change. I wonder if it will be permanent?

Great episode last night.

It looks like we have two duels going on, one of which was resolved last night.

Sandra vs Tony. Sandra shows why she’s a two time winner as she quickly crafts an alliance to oust Tony. I loved her in Tribal, “That’s what you get for plotting against me.”

The other duel is on the other tribe.

Cirie vs Ozzy. My money is on Ozzy.

I don’t mind returnees as long as the whole cast are veterans. One thing about an all returnee season, the game starts immediately; people are playing and talking strategy on day one. I have to say it’s kind of sad to see Ozzie back, I guess he doesn’t have much going on in his life except this game.

I wonder if Probst and the rest of TPTB intentionally come up with phallic metaphors for their challenges.

“Joe’s holding on to his balls”

“Ozzy trying to get his Snake out”.

How can Tony be entertaining and annoying at the same time?

Being a chaotic shit-stirrer only works if people are surprised by it Everyone had seen Tony;s crap before and so were ho-hum about it. They didn’t want the aggravation from someone who isn’t very good in challenges. Hantz made it to the final because he shocked people and he was on his second show before the first one aired. Once people knew his shtick he was ousted quickly.

Good boots by people who know how to play the game. Ciera is useless.

Cerie is in trouble unless she pulls off her Jedi mind magic again,

Wife and I really enjoyed the premiere. Good to see Malcom & Ozzie again, and I have a love for Michaela too - I’m hoping that’s the final three (if it is indeed final three, not sure on that)

I liked that this season’s theme seems to be more nautical instead of tribal. Old pirate ships everywhere and the Immunity Idol is an old diving helmet. A refreshing change for sure.

Gonna be a good season!

I turned it off after the Immunity Challenge because I knew how the vote would turn out.

Generally seasons with returnees are boring, but an all-returnee season with top-notch players ought to be entertaining.

An underground spy bunker? In sand? Seriously? And jumping out of the woods to “catch” people having a private talk? That was just awful - it was clear Tony had no idea how to play against people who weren’t falling for his schtick.

I’ve read that on veteran seasons, the gameplay and strategizing starts way before day one. Most of the former players who are interested enough to return know each other from various Survivor events, and they start talking to each other as soon as they’re cast. The producers aren’t happy about it, but admit there’s nothing they can do - until the players actually arrive on site they have no way to enforce a “No talking” rule.

Only watched the first part so far, and although I am virulently anti-retread shows, this one doesn’t seem quite as bad as some. Nice to see JT, although he’s hardly recognizable anymore. I don’t see what people like about Michaela. She just grates on me, and I’ll be happy to see her gone.

I liked her in her first season, but I really don’t like her this season.

I (still) like JT, but jeez dude, you won a million dollars, could’ve gotten yourself a new set of teeth.

Michaela has a very ‘doesn’t take shit from anyone’ attitude. I think this is great on a normal season of Survivor, when there are a fair amount of players who will play scared. But it can really get you into danger with veteran players. It also might’ve been that she stuck out from the other Millenial players, whereas this season she’s the youngest person on the show.

Other random thoughts:

  • No one challenged Ozzy for the toolkit? I know he’s Ozzy, but he’s also 34 and has to be slowing down somewhat… maybe not as bad as it was for Colby in Heroes vs Villains, but still.
  • Funny how no one noticed the secret advantage sitting there in plain sight for so long. I’m not thrilled about another legacy advantage, but I’m glad they tried to improve it a bit by letting it be used at 13 (merge number potentially?) and 6.
  • If you’re going to have red/orange and blue tribes, and one of them is gonna be named “Mana”, it really should’ve been the blue tribe.
  • The giant snake weight for the second challenge was pretty cool. I still continue to hope that we’ll see some deviation in the challenges (beyond the typical 'swim out to unlock puzzle pieces, bring them back across an obstacle, solve puzzle) and return of old favorites like weird stuff to eat, the auction, the ‘answer questions and knock other people out’ challenge, etc.
  • I wonder if Tai will get voted out simply so his tribemates can eat the chickens.

Ozzy really does seem unchallengeable in the dive/do shit underwater tasks. Smooth and practiced while everyone else looks like “Oh shit here comes the water!”. And 34 isn’t remotely old enough to wonder if he’s faded.

Man I love this cast. I’ve rooted for almost everyone in the entire cast at one point or another. Then again, that means that I’ll be somewhat bummed every week as someone I kinda like gets voted off.

JT is looking svelte! Looks like he spent most of that million at the gym staying lean and mean. Oofa.

I didn’t understand the final vote. I guess Malcolm and Caleb were informed that Tony was going home and there was nothing to be done to save him so they went along to get along. Fine, no problem, I get that logic and I’m rooting for both of them.

But why were the two Aubry votes from Tony and Sandra? That I didn’t understand.

I guess that means that during the conversation with Malcolm and Caleb to get their votes, they revealed who Tony was voting for so that Sandra could also target that person so if Tony played an idol…wait, that doesn’t make sense. Tony’s target goes home either way

So I have no clue why the only two Aubry votes were cast by Tony and Sandra. Can someone explain?

Another good thing about this format is that there are no goats (in theory) to take to the final as an automatic loser, although I don’t recall what Hali, Siera, or the gay guy from last season did to deserve their spots. I may just not remember.

I know this is a weird question, but I have a great idea for a survivor variant. Anyone have an idea how to reach out to a producer of the show?
