Survivor: Game Changers Starts on Wednesday

Ozzy holds the record for being voted out the most times (Five times in 4 seasons) in Survivor history and his first season, he he was not voted out.

He was voted out three times in his 3rd season, but returned to the game twice via Redemption Island.

And as I suspected, Zeke’s situation is becoming a talking point in the post merge. Survivor would have been remiss had they edited the Tribal Council to not show the “Outing”

Very happy to see Debbie gone. Good riddance nut-case. What was that with Michaela eating popcorn at TC!? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.

I thought the same thing at first, then realized it was probably coconut. Either way, I thought it was amusing, like she was home watching a movie. On another note, I think she’s strong in challenges and I don’t know why they sit her out.

I don’t understand what happened yesterday.

All that talk about “time to make a big move” and how “Holmander and Sierra” are the King and Queen. And so the Bottom Five and the Flipper get their nerve up to take control…and they vote out the Court Jester??? Why??

I mean, okay, she’s annoying. But virtually anyone else in the top alliance would have been a better strategic move, surely?

I see that a lot on Survivor, instead of going after the head of an alliance, they pick off his/her allies and I’ve never understood the move. If you’re going to betray your alliance, then take out the biggest target. I’m guessing that maybe there were deliberations we didn’t see and Debbie was the one target they could all agree on, or they worried about how it looks to the jury.

Debbie was indeed the one target they could all agree on, because she was acting so cocky and annoying. Sara & Andrea both agreed Debbie had to go, and the others gladly followed suit.

Looks like next week it will all flip again. This has been quite an entertaining season.

Yeah, that’s exactly what it looked like to me. And not just any old movie-- a real yawner!!

I’m not sure how the Secret Advantage works. You get to “steal someone’s vote”. Does that mean you get to cancel their vote as if they weren’t there, or you get a extra vote instead of them?

I paused the video, the advantage says:

"Wait until it is your turn to vote, then announce to Jeff that you wish to use your advantage. You will then select one tribemember whose vote you wish to steal.

This person will not cast a vote and instead you will cast a second vote using this piece of parchment.

This vote will count like any other vote at that Tribal Council."

So yes, you take a vote away from someone else and cast 2 votes yourself. So you can switch a potential 4-3 loss to a 4-3 win.

That’s better than the one Debbie had (and didn’t get to use!!) since, IIRC, her advantage was just an extra vote. She didn’t get to negate anyone else’s vote, right?

Yes, Debbie just got an extra vote. And she did use it last week, and voted for Ozzy twice. She stood up and used it right before Jeff went back to get the votes. It didn’t matter though - Ozzy had a majority even without the extra.

:smack: Oh, right. At least when she used it, she didn’t need to. Almost as good as not being able to use it because you got your ass voted off at least partly for bragging how “in charge” you were.

I imagine the folks at the Ponderosa are hanging their heads today (or six months ago; whenever it actually happened). But just by looking at her, you could tell it was her time to go, considering how emaciated she looked. (What? She lost all of 1.5 pounds?)

I find it interesting, though, how Debbie has taken getting booted in stride (per her Ponderosa Video, both this time and when she got voted off her other season). Maybe she lives in denial – not a stretch of the imagination – or maybe when she’s on Survivor she puts on the mask, has fun, and when her time is over, she takes it off. Seems a lot more easygoing away from the show.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an extra vote used effectively, to do so, you’d have to have a pretty good idea of how everyone is going to vote and use it to upend carefully laid plans.

What was all the treacly nonsense about Cirie about? Did the editors have time to fill? Does Probst always make some kind of tearjerking spectacle out of a player after every challenge, to give the editors that angle to work with if they decide to?

An *extra *vote, like Debbie had, would be tough to use effectively. There would only be two ways it would affect the vote: turning a tie into a win, or turning a one-vote loss into a tie (in which case, under the new rules, you’d draw rocks and perhaps go home earlier than you would have without using it). This new one (which is essentially *two *extra votes: if there is any way that it differs from that in game theory terms, it’s not occurring to me) would be **golden **any time your alliance is on the losing side of a one-vote split: 6-5, 5-4, etc. That shit happens all the time.

Because she’s the most overrated (by the fans) player ever. Okay, maybe Rupert beats her. And I would have said Ozzy, but as someone pointed out upthread, he came within one vote of winning the million dollars the first time he played.

But Michaela has a terrible social game, and she’s good but not great in challenges. (Would you honestly pick her for your team over Culpepper or Troyzan?) She irritates the fuck out of most people who have to live around her, although this only translates through the TV to some of the audience at home, like me.

I will be absolutely shocked at this point if Sarah doesn’t win, just simply based on the editing. She’s done jack diddly all season, but still received plenty of air time. Let’s see, big vote with Ozzy going home, let’s talk to Debbie (makes sense, it was her plan, worked), Zeke (makes sense, he narrowly survived), and Sarah (why??) At least in this episode she finally did some stuff (grabbed the secret advantage, somehow without anyone else noticing) and flipped on her alliance.

I doubt they do something every time, but I agree, it seemed pretty nonsense to me. If I was Cirie I think my answer to Jeff’s probing to ‘stay here until you finish’ would’ve been met with “naw, I’m good, I wanna go rest my ass on the beach.” I suspect that one thing affecting it is that everyone’s emotions must be quite high given their lack of food.

Eh, I think most people are well aware of her social game drawbacks (read: complete lack thereof). And while she might be annoying to people at camp, she’s entertaining in the small doses we get to see. None of that goes to not picking her for the challenge, though… she’s probably the strongest woman left, from a physical standpoint. Can she not swim? That’s the only reason I would’ve left her off my team. Though it might have been that Culpepper was trying to construct his team on keeping his allies spread, and Cirie didn’t want to pick her because she’s already got her in her back pocket. I dunno.

Certainly not every Challenge, but it’s a fairly common Survivor trope to focus on such a human interest story to show how Survivor is such a life changing event for people. It’s not just a reality show, goddamit!!!

I’m guessing that Cirie doesn’t go super-far in the game, but they still want to give her positive airtime because she is a big fan favourite.

I like Michaela; she is fun to watch with all her little expressions and moves. It was a terrible look for her tying her shoes, muttering about how how pointless it was, with the hidden advantage just inches from her hand. I wonder what she thought watching that back.

Stealing a vote should be a big advantage, but it seems like these things are pretty hard to play correctly.

Throwing Sarah under the bus was a Sandra type move from Debbie, but it shows how much finesse you need to bring that off. Debbie didn’t have it.

I thought the Cirie focus was kinda silly, too. Yes, she did eventually walk across the balance beam, but only because Sarah came out and helped her get on top of the platform. So not really life affirming, IMO, but okay.

Michaela sulking was understandable. I know that Cirie is nicer, but in a challenge, you have to WIN in order to get it, so Michaela should have participated. It wasn’t a puzzle solving contest, or a likeability contest. It was a physical test, and Michaela does really well in physical challenges. And, of course, Cirie could have bowed out rather than bring her team down like that.

Debbie was very annoying and I’m gleeful that they got rid of her. I can take batshit crazy but she’s also malicious and manipulative. I think taking her out made more sense than Sierra at this point, because Sierra is too heavy to do well on “hang on the pole” challenges and not as good at puzzles as Debbie.
And, of course, it’s extra delicious to see players who say “You’d have to be an idiot not to go along with our plan” eat a little humble pie.

But I also agree that strategically, they should have targeted Troyzan or Thai instead, because now those in the (former) majority alliance holding onto advantages or idols will be far more likely to play them. At last count, Thai had, what, 35 HIIs?, so it appears that what Thai wants, Thai should get in the next couple of rounds.

I’m getting the impression that Zeke is very lucky that Varner made such a tactical error a few days ago, thus saving his ass from getting voted out. Zeke seems sincere and nice at first blush, but he has zero loyalty and he makes people feel like schleps for trusting him. That’s really bad strategy for getting votes at the end.

The vote stealing / extra vote might be less powerful depending on when you vote among all the other players. If you’re one of the first people voting, everyone else will know something’s up and might change how they vote. if you’re at the end, it will be a complete surprise and will be much more impactful. I wonder if they purposely will have her vote last until it’s used, or if she gets asked if she’s using it and if she is, they’ll have her vote last?
