I’m pretty sure it was creative editing that made us think he might be a target. If you think about it, that tribe is in panic mode and getting rid of a strong player wouldn’t have been a wise move. I think we just saw some smoke and mirrors from the producers with respect to his being voted out.
From Jeff Kent’s and Carter’s POV, going along with Katie to vote out Penner costs them the immunity idol from their alliance (which may not be rehidden). The right move was to keep Penner and (A) use his immunity idol to swing a vote or deny a vote-splitting opportunity or (B) let Penner be the first target for Tandang in a merge.
There was a similar challenge in Survivor: Guatemala, but with only 2 players per side. No one tackled each other though. They tried to push the ball at an angle past the other team. Maybe having 3 players per team prevented that.
Apparently they get given some field notes on what kind of edible things are around but the reward challenge where they had someone come and show them specifically happened in Thailand, and again in Vanuatu. After that reward in Vanuatu, you often saw them eating greens or other things with their rice.
It looked to me like Penner didn’t know that he was a target. When his name came up, he looked across at Jeff Kent with an “oh really, my name came up?” kind of look. Though maybe they edited that in. He didn’t seem to blink at Carter’s “Katie or Penner” slip, but hard to imagine he didn’t notice.
Yellow tribe looks nicely fractured, so Red might be able to mix things up after the merge. I hope that so because it’s boring when the minority tribe just gets voted off one after another.
I don’t see how rain would keep them from getting clams, when they’re just sitting on the bottom… they’ve gotten pretty cocky since Australia, now they know that the producers are never going to let the survivors start starving to death again. The red tribe had one meal left, as in, they had one cup of rice to share amongst all of them, and they were all standing around in camp like they expected manna to start falling from heaven. To an extent, they did… they went to the challenge, and when they came back, they had THREE cups of rice. w00t!
I also remember in the past that people have stayed gridlocked on challenges for hours without it getting called. Wimps.
Good job, Lisa, for putting the smack down on Denise and showing that she’s got something to contribute in a challenge. Abi, not so much.
Abi: ‘I vote with the majority!’
Later…
