Survivor October 24 2012 "Down and Dirty"

What an odd challenge situation. I’m assuming in all their play-testing, they did not anticipate a gridlock situation like this. Where they locked in that situation for over an hour?

I’m not sure what I would have done in that situation.

I’m kind of enjoying the fact that Tandang (yellow tribe) doesn’t look to be going to TC for a while. It gives the Brazilian Bomb time to build up a head of steam and explode in a gigantic cloud of crazy before she’s voted out…

It’s not that hard to sneak up on a stingray. I’ve tickled them with my fingers.

They should have had a smooth ball rather than one made of twines and ropes.

I think Penner made a good deal. Chances are that they are going to merge in a couple of days and they will once again have access to the rice. I can’t believe the Yellow tribe was running out of rice.

Penner’s tribe won some fishing gear. Why not use those small fish as bait on a hook and still fish?

Is there no other food sources? Coconuts (or other fruit)?

Looked like Penner was eating coconut at the end there.

Did I totally mishear when they were talking about the rice they got from the red tribe? That there was probably only one day’s worth in the bag? So basically, neither side got very good value out of that deal…Red had barely any rice left anyway, and they got one meal (and family letters, given) out of the reward.

Seemed to me Tandang overestimated exactly how much rice they were going to get - while of course Penner and the rest of Kalabaw knew. So it does seem like a canny move by Penner, especially if the anticipated merge happens soon.

And what the hell is up with Skupin eating dry rice anyway? Yes, that may be what birds do, but it takes much less cooked rice to fill you up than chomping it dry. That was just stupid.

Dude, Carter is…inarticulate. And…slooowwww. And…dullll. How the hell did he make it past casting?

And Probst, yellow card for the “Lisa is no stranger to the facts of life” line in the promo for next week.

(Go Denise! Go Malcolm!)

To an almost ridiculous degree.

Supkin must not understand the need for a gizzard to help with digesting such uncooked grains.

I hope Denise makes it to the merge and to the final 2. She has fought like a ninja while being on the losing end of just about everything.

Malcolm and Denise in the final and I hope it’s a tie so they both win. Good move by Penner making that deal but it would have been BRILLIANT if he caught fish. What I don’t get is how little foraging there is going on in both tribes. It seems like both were on starvation rations already. Does anyone know if Survivor fills up their rice every few days?

Have we ever seen that particular “Push the Ball” challenge before?

They should have had a reward challenge where the winner gets a local native to come and show them all the edible plants around them. I bet there’s some survival expert out there just laughing at them all.

They have actually done that as a reward challenge prize before, though I can’t recall which season.

I’d like to see Malcolm go far; he seems to be genuinely likable, and he’s well-positioned and has his head in the game. Ditto for Denise, but I fear for her future in that group; she’s nowhere near as well-positioned. I’d really like to see how the dynamics will shift if Denise and Malcolm both make the merge and all the sub-factions start to fall apart. So far, Denise is still the only one who knows Malcolm has a Hidden Immunity Idol, while everybody seems to know Penner has one, and of course the Crazy Abi alliance has theirs in possession of their ticking time bomb.

I agree. Past instances of that as a reward added a lot of interest to the show. Much more interesting than watching them pig-out on one meal. Plus it follows the “Give a man a fish…” axiom.

I don’t get everybody just standing around griping because Penner only got a couple of little fish. Get your ass out of the bunk and do some fishing of your own! They were bailing water out of a boat, but never launched it. Fish also bite when it’s raining.

Yeah, I remember that, which is why I mentioned it (I’m not nearly that original). It was really interesting, because not only did it add another storyline, it also added a layer of strategy post-merge.

Penner did not play his HII even though all of the hints during the (heavily edited) TC pointed to it. I even told Mrs. Cad before TC that Penner should play it. So he stays alive but was it 20/20 reading his tribe or did he just get lucky?

I told my wife they should have done the Big Ball challenge again for Immunity!

That would have been sweet, they’d have to play it out!
