I have to admit, Edna is quite right. Brandon is advertising his insanity and she’s the odd one out. I kind of like her.
Were the family members at tribal? My wife thought she saw Brandon’s dad react.
That was probably Jim.
As for the preview:
I don’t believe for one second it’s that straightforward. I can’t imagine they’d spoil that duel that openly.
Was that brief interview segment the first time Rick has spoken all season?
Tonight more than ever I felt the producers’ manipulation. Since I had a pretty good feeling that Edna was a goner, those pre-tribal interview segments with Coach and Al where they sorta’ kinda’ sounded like voting Brandon was a possibility seemed very phony. Especially since earlier in the episode Coach demonstrated that he would say anything the producers wanted him to say when he extolled the virtues of whatever brand of camera that was they were using.
I’m sure every one of the remaining players is trying to figure out a strategy that results in Brandon sitting next to them in the final TC.
Everybody rants about the returning players. But they are needle movers.
How many times would this show be renewed if they had a tribe full of Ricks, or Ednas, or Elyse’s? or one of the 100+ forgettable players.
why would Coach want Ozzie sitting next to him with a jury full of former Savaii tribemates? Aren’t the confessionals supposed to be “the truth”?
Because he’s an idiot and thinks the game is about honor when it’s about strategy.
Misconstrued! Check out the big brain on Brandon. Good thing his dad knows what a moron his son is.
Edna – or was it Sophie? – had a good point about how Brandon seems to imagine that saying ‘sorry’ wipes the slate clean.
I look forward to next week when four players say “Oh shit! What now?”
I wonder if Edna considered trying to blindside Coach if she thought he really wasn’t planning on using the HII. It probably would not have worked but all four can’t be completely dumb. ( I kid, of course they can).
As for the relatives, did anyone other than Brandon’s dad get any screen time? If they did I sure can’t remember it.
He had immunity, so I doubt she considered it.
I’m annoyed with that tribe and I feel sorry for Edna. Completely unwavering in their dedication to their ideals, which are a facade at best.
At least things should start to get more entertaining now.
Returning players like Coach and Rob dominate the game strategically and charismatically and make it impossible for interesting strategy to happen. Edna could have been a mover and shaker if she weren’t so paralyzed by Coach’s presence the whole game. There either need to be a lot of returning players (Fans vs. Favorites, Heroes vs. Villains) or none. When everyone’s on an equal playing field (Samoa, Gabon, Nicaragua an obvious exception…), the strategy gets tangled up pretty well, and no, no one’s playing on the level of Rob on his 4th try or Coach on his 3rd but how could they?! Playing Survivor is a strategic experience that cannot be replicated in the real world in any real way. Returning players have an enormous advantage, both in strategy and star power.
What I don’t understand:
- Edna’s plea for keeping her and sending Brandon to RI made perfect sense.
- People know what a loose cannon Brandon is.
- Please don’t tell me Coach actually took what Brandon’s dad said into serious consideration.
Even Edna knew she’d never win. For me, that vote should have been a no-brainer: Get rid of Brandon first, then get rid of Edna.
?!?!?!?
(mind you, I’m a relative newbie when it comes to Survivor strategy)
Duh, I forgot about that. Nevermind.
I knew there was no way Coach would get rid of Brandon instead of Edna. He couldn’t afford to have Edna there when Ozzie eventually returns from RI. She would team up with him in a heartbeat. Brandon would never break his vow and break ranks, or he risks opening the floodgates to all his demons. I think the only thing holding that boy together is a thin thread, and whoa boy, when that thing snaps there will be blood. I think Edna’s analogy to beating your wife was not by coincidence.
I missed that. What did she say?
She compared his apparent belief that saying “I’m sorry” makes everything all right to the mindset of an abuser. Given the message board post that Brandon’s wife made before he went on Survivor, she’s not far off on that, although it sounded more like a mutual domestic fight club as she described it.
Given the preview,I’d say there’s about a 99% chance of Ozzy winning.
After he talked, I asked my wife, “Was he trying to do an Australian accent?” I don’t know if I didn’t know what he sounded like or what. So far, all we’ve seen him do is give the “Shocked!” look at TC.
Exactly this.
Edna’s very eloquent plea for her life was 100% true and perfectly reasoned, except for one thing: If Edna makes it to the final TC, she’s likely to get some votes. Brandon will get zero, guaranteed. That’s why keeping him around makes perfect sense, even if it feels like a shitty thing to do.
I don’t think he does. But he knows what Ozzy wants to hear, and he also knows what makes for good television.
Anyone else think last night’s duel was damn exciting? I actually thought Cochran was going to pull off the upset for a second there. And his final exit was really pretty moving.
It makes perfect sense to keep Brandon around. He’s loony tunes, there’s no way he can garner jury votes. Everyone knows better than to include him in a strategic move and he’s comfortingly predictable in his intractability.
I do wonder at the willingness of anyone who isn’t Coach to keep Brandon because I do think it’s obvious that Brandon will back Coach over any of the other players. Again though, Brandon is predictable, Edna is a wildcard.
For my part, I don’t want Ozzie to win. I don’t think he deserves it in terms of game play and I haven’t liked him since his first season. He’s an arrogant dick.
Coach might actually deserve the win but that’s so boring. It’s just like Rob last season, I think Rob did well and that he deserved the win but it felt like a foregone conclusion and made for a largely boring season.
Albert is a lazy nimrod, Rick is cool but hasn’t done much. I want to like Sophie and I give her props for winning a few challenges and reigning Albert in a few times but she’s just not all that likeable; I think she may have missed her window to make a big move. If Sophie makes it to final tribal I don’t think she can make a better case than Coach.
I’m pulling for Edna to whoop Ozzie and somehow survive to the final. As an outsider for the whole game I think she could make a valid and convincing case to the jury.
No, I actually thought he sounded vaguely British/Australian, too. That bag of marbles he stores in his mouth made it hard to pinpoint what I thought I was hearing, though.
