Suse 8.2 pro and DHCP

Hello,

I recently installed Suse 8.2 Pro and I’m having problems connecting to the internet. I’m dual booting with XP which connects fine.

The problem is I keep getting unknown host when I try and pull up a page, or even when I try and ping another computer.

My specs:
We have road runner cable modem set up
my NIC is Realtek rt8139 configed as eth0 w/ DHCP
I used YAST2 to do all the configurations of the network.

I checked the IP and DNS and it all looks legit. I’ve read the (freaking) manual and checked out on Suse and other sites without any luck, everything that needs to be set to yes is.

If it makes a difference I had Redhat 7.3 there first and it connected fine on the first try.

I’ll provide you guys with as much info as I can. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Are you able to ping something on the internet by IP address (try 66.218.71.198), or does it only fail when you ping by name?

Sadly, no. It told me the Destination Host Unreachable.
Also, I noticed on start up this time that when setting up eth0 it takes a while and ends up looking like this:

eth0(DHCP)…No IP address yet backgrounding.
I’m not sure what that means though b/c when you open up YAST there is an IP address.
